Adverts aren't concerned with morality, they are there to sell a product. Racism, sexism and any other ism appeals to a certain person's or "market's" sense of irrational superiority, associating the product or service with the low level of power that you are duped in to believing you have through the actions of another (fictional) character.
I'm a guy and I'm for equality. I'm actually not letting my daughter play with dolls (she's two) until she asks me to buy her one. On Christmas and her birthday people bring her dolls, Barbie, pink clothes, etc...I return them right away. I dress her in neutral colors and I hate when people tell her "awe you are so cute, pretty, etc.." why not tell her "you are smart." ???
