There were many issues, economic and cultural, but slavery related issues were at the center of the wheel. And what's your beef with the post office? Keeping the union together after the succession was the start of the war, but there were a plethora of causes...with the slavery issue being prominant. If you want to break things down to basics: The south caused the war by seceding. If the south had not seceded Lincoln would probably not invaded it.

Judged as an art object, I think the CSA national seal is poorly designed. It is entirely to busy & the details are hard to make out. A national symbol should have a strong highly distinctive image. The Great Seal of the U.S. w/ its freaky cool imagery is an excellent symbol. Something like that or Medieval style heraldry is what one should use. Does anyone know that the Latin on the Great Seal is actually a proclamation of the gospel?

@CWScott24: You don't to repell invaders if you don't invade 1st. Remember, Ft. Sumter was U.S. federal territory. If secession was valid, the secessionist renounced their title to it w/ secession. Same is true w/ all federal property stolen by the secessionist before open hostilities. If the Secessionists wanted peace. They should have negotiated terms of a division or transfer of federal property. It was pure luck no one died on Sumter.
@VictorLepanto they didnt invade, that fort was built on SC property just like british forts were built in colonial property, when the US won its independence they forced the britts out of forts that the crown paid for. its no different in this case. the state of Virginia didnt fire a shot on fort sumter, yet they were victim to a naval blockade before a shot was fired, then invaded. one soldier did die at the battle but it was from a canon miss fire.

Much like the barons @ the Battle of Runnymeade, the Founders only sought to defend their rights vs. the crown. They only moved to independence, often w/ great reluctance, gradually. No Germans participated in Pearl Harbor either, we still fought the Nazis. You join the enemy, you are an enemy. Sumter was federal property, no state of war existed prior to this act of aggression.

Lincoln demanded every southern port to be placed under a naval blockade, several southern states hadn't even seceded yet. which hurt all the states not just SC. Then lincoln demanded all the southern states send their militias To put down a revolt that most of those states agreed with. Lincoln pretty much asked for war, he was not open to negotiations.

Joining a belligerent is also an act of war. If you're part of a gov't & join a gov't after that other gov't has acts your gov't, that is called treason. All the confederate government needs is to be restaffed, and HUNDREDS of people are working on it. The plan is to get a peace treaty, ending the occupation of the south. And ending the civil war, that has gone on for 150 years.
And unlike the U.S., we won't send OUR people (most of the military is southron) to fight in wars were we aren't needed or wanted. We will not force ourselves on the world like the U.S. does. We also will not be trillions in debt. And the U.S. also built our military bases for us.

1. There were no plans to expand south. Northern Mexico was literally BEGGING to be allowed to join the Confederacy.

Hood had around 20 to 30 thousand at Atlanta and it wasn't all cavalry. Hell the whole confederacy didn't have 10,000 horses at that point in the war. Do you even know what cavalry is?

@TheBoberton When Sherman died, Johnston served as a pallbearer at his funeral; during the funeral, he kept his hat off as a sign of respect in the cold, rainy weather. Someone had some concern for the old general's health and asked him to put on his hat, to which Johnston replied "If I were in his place and he standing here in mine, he would not put on his hat." He caught pneumonia and died several weeks later. Johnston who fought against him didn't think he was an insane murderer.

Keeping the union together after the succession was the start of the war, but there were a plethora of causes...with the slavery issue being prominant. If you want to break things down to basics: The south caused the war by seceding. If the south had not seceded Lincoln would probably not invaded it.

Judged as an art object, I think the CSA national seal is poorly designed. It is entirely to busy & the details are hard to make out. A national symbol should have a strong highly distinctive image. The Great Seal of the U.S. w/ its freaky cool imagery is an excellent symbol. Something like that or Medieval style heraldry is what one should use. Does anyone know that the Latin on the Great Seal is actually a proclamation of the gospel?

@CWScott24: You don't to repell invaders if you don't invade 1st. Remember, Ft. Sumter was U.S. federal territory. If secession was valid, the secessionist renounced their title to it w/ secession. Same is true w/ all federal property stolen by the secessionist before open hostilities. If the Secessionists wanted peace. They should have negotiated terms of a division or transfer of federal property. It was pure luck no one died on Sumter.

@VictorLepanto they didnt invade, that fort was built on SC property just like british forts were built in colonial property, when the US won its independence they forced the britts out of forts that the crown paid for. its no different in this case. the state of Virginia didnt fire a shot on fort sumter, yet they were victim to a naval blockade before a shot was fired, then invaded. one soldier did die at the battle but it was from a canon miss fire.

Much like the barons @ the Battle of Runnymeade, the Founders only sought to defend their rights vs. the crown. They only moved to independence, often w/ great reluctance, gradually. No Germans participated in Pearl Harbor either, we still fought the Nazis. You join the enemy, you are an enemy. Sumter was federal property, no state of war existed prior to this act of aggression.

Lincoln demanded every southern port to be placed under a naval blockade, several southern states hadn't even seceded yet. which hurt all the states not just SC. Then lincoln demanded all the southern states send their militias To put down a revolt that most of those states agreed with. Lincoln pretty much asked for war, he was not open to negotiations.

Joining a belligerent is also an act of war. If you're part of a gov't & join a gov't after that other gov't has acts your gov't, that is called treason. If the South had wanted independence, it should have negotiated the terms of her independence. Arbitrarily taking another's property w/o provocation, is aggression.

Carolinians were not firing magic shot. They must have fully intended that they would kill those men. This was an act of treason. Hood had around 20 to 30 thousand at Atlanta and it wasn't all cavalry. Hell the whole confederacy didn't have 10,000 horses at that point in the war. Do you even know what cavalry is?

@TheBoberton 6. yes I know that Hood WAS a cavalry commander and that when Johnston was relieved Hood was than named his replacement. Hood was not a cavalry commander at the battle of Atlanta he was the General of an entire army. How many times do I have to prove you wrong?

@TheBoberton When Sherman died, Johnston served as a pallbearer at his funeral; during the funeral, he kept his hat off as a sign of respect in the cold, rainy weather. Someone had some concern for the old general's health and asked him to put on his hat, to which Johnston replied "If I were in his place and he standing here in mine, he would not put on his hat." He caught pneumonia and died several weeks later. Johnston who fought against him didn't think he was an insane murderer.

When the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were written, they wanted the government to serve the people. Not the other way around. Let's see - Canada got annexed by USA, The Americans allying with Germany in WWI and beat the shit out of everyone else. Confederacy, Britain, France, Russia and Japan turn Fascists, Black holocaust under a Hitler lookalike in the Confederacy, and about 10 cities getting nuked by 1944.
