we just bought a senegal parrot yesterday, he is only 13 weeks old i was wondering how old would he have to be befor i can start training and how long would it take? :)

@samanthaakerryy Start now, be repetitive and have patience. I have no idea how long it takes, somewhere between days and months, depending on how much time you spend on the trick each day. Only give positive renforcement (food treats for desired behaviours), and if you or your bird get frustrated, stop and have a break. This needs to be a fun experience for both you and your bird or the bird will resent it. You didn't buy a bird for it to hate you.

@verticalsmurf great, thanks for that, he already has a very stable relationship with me, we get on great so i think i might start trying some simple tricks with him. do you know how long it takes for senegals to start repeating word such as 'hello'? he already mimics a few simple noises :)

@samanthaakerryy - I have no idea. If he is already mimicing sounds, I'd say a couple of months at the most. I've never owned a senegal, I was taught by a quaker parrot. He mumbled for a while, made partial words, then out of the blue he started saying 'Hello Charlie, what's up Charlie?, step up, dance and night-night.' All in the space of a month. But again, I don't know anything about Senegals. Why not look up some bird forums?

I have this same bowling set, but it's not painted, just all bamboo. How did you teach your bird to push the ball? Mine just chews on the ramp where the ball sits until the ball starts rolling.... It's so frustrating! How did you teach your bird to do this???
