It's not about race it is about culture and socioeconomic background, education, etc...I mean to lump all black women in the same boat is the height of ignorance. I feel that if black men are going to have a role in the family it needs to start soon before you all become obsolete. Please give examples of your idea of black women acting as men.

All black magazines, tv shows, preacher sermons in churches, etc...discuss is BLACK WOMEN: teen pregnancy (but dont discuss the teen boys and adult men who impregnate them), section 8 and welfare ( without discussing adult males who still live at homes with mom while their sisters move out and go to college), AIDS/HIV (without discussing who they received it from after they come home with busted colons from prison)

It's not about race it is about culture and socioeconomic background, education, etc...I mean to lump all black women in the same boat is the height of ignorance. I think there are commonalities to all people that share a similar heritage and if you share a similar gender then you have even more in common. However my experience as a black women from an intercultural background is different than say someone that has a more stereotypical background. Men and women are complex creatures, 4 sure.

The focus should be on both. I hear and have talked about black men in prison, who aren't doing what they need to do in school, who aren't taking care of their kids, and I constantly see it on television, in magzines etc, Barack Obama will talk about it but when it comes to addressing black women there seems to be this reluctance among blacks to actually say anything critical, constructive or otherwise, in an effort to improve things.

There are problems with everyone. The problem is unlike black men a lot of those black women are not being addressed. And they aren't being held accountable for their own actions. And when people try they get overly defensive, start making excuses, or need to deflect the conversation onto black men or whoever is bringing it up. I have no interest in "bashing" black women. I just want the black community to start holding women accountable as well as men to help make things better.

Most of these issues you talk about that are affecting AFRICAN AMERICAN women include African American men. ie. HIV- Black women contracted it from a man, hello! Children- Takes a man to have a child, hello! Overweight- Go to Florida, you will see just as many overweight black men and also white women!
As a black man why should that affect you? As black men you should be leading by example, to help your fellow brothers. Black women have PLENTY role models to look up to...

I don't think so. Black women tear each other down more than black men ever will. Which is very unfortunate but I doubt that will change any time soon. There is no black feminist movement. Many black women have confused "feminism" with acting like a man. Which seems to be the case with many feminists but black women especially. The only difference is our problems are addressed and acknowledged while the women are basically given a pass with a healthy dose of denial piled on top. In the black community there is no concept of "self-improvement" when it comes to many (not all but too many) black women.
