  • mark steel is brilliant!

  • Where are the pyramids? WHERE YOU BLOODY WELL LEFT THEM!

  • " When is something not what it was before " *shows Micheal Jackson pictures * EPIC

  • Marx never argues that class is based solely on "wealth and education," nor upon where on the ladder you are born. This is a serious misconception that many people have of the Marxist notion of class. He argued that your class is predicated upon social relations, in particular how your position in relation to the means of production, do you own or work? Specifically he described capitalists, petty-bourgeoisie, workers, and peasants (holdover of feudal relations still present in some places).

  • Hence, the eventual dominance of the middle classes.

  • 6:17 - funny!

  • This is brilliant, I'm so happy I came across these video's :D

  • wots the music at 3:32?

  • as it was 3 months ago you probably won't read this....... but the music is soldier girl by 'polyphonic spree'...... great single i thought (the album wasn't so good tho)

  • thank you very much

  • i love how he seemed to be painting something beautiful... something perfect, than it just ended up just being a cat.

  • I lol'd:

    The Great, Alexander

  • hahaha, lol.

  • "Deeply nauseating tosser"

    LOL!

  • I think Steel is a little naive in his middle class aspersions. Aristotle called for moderation for stability in a Macedonian conquered Athens. His views on the naturally best suited men for politics points to philsophicalli minded men liberated from the demands of household management (people of aristocratic birth). Under Aristotle, the democratic peasant-farmers of Athens are reduced in power but unchanged in social structure or values.

  • actually, he's very working class. but hell, who cares, as long as you think your right...

  • Look, I don't want to get into debates about the class distinctions of the U.K. Mark Steel may come from a working class background and has philosophical beliefs related to their causes, but I can't see him denying that as a professor and a BBC documentary maker, he is clearly an upper-middle class individual. He gets invited to functions that no working class individual gets to go to.

  • Yeah ... but class is defined by where you aare born ... not where you are (on the social/financial spectrum)

  • I totally disagree with you on that one. Maybe what you say is true within a caste system or feudal society. In modern day Western Europe, North America and Oceania, class is based on three variables; access to capital, access to political power and access to higher education. Pretensions among individuals will vary, but even Marx states in 'Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right. Introduction' that class distinction within modernity will always be based on wealth and education.

  • I am sure your comments are well-intentioned, but I think you've slightly got the wrong end of the stick about Mark Steel. "He was expelled from Swanley Comprehensive School...at the age of 15, and went on to work in a garage and then live in a squat". He is a comedian and socialist activist, rather that a professor. While your argument as to the nature of class may be essentially sound, it seems to me a rather blunt tool for examining a complex issue.

  • @natmanprime "proper working class aint left wing"

Or so you've been taught and propagandized to believe. In fact, "working class conservative" is an oxymoron. Emphasis on the moron.

Here in America, working class people who call themselves "conservative" are conservative only when it comes to social issues (abortion, etc.). About economics, they have no true analysis, only reaction.

Which, in all likelihood, is exactly what characterizes your own form of "conservatism." Coward.

  • @bapyou LOL how did u get to coward wtf r u talking about?

    ooh "coward".

    LOOOL

calm down on the militant shit dude.

it's just my experiance, whats propaganda got to do with it??

"no true analysis" wtf r u talking about???!?

    i think youve been propagandized

  • @natmanprime "how did u get to coward wtf r u talking about?"

What I am taking about is working class people today have little real analysis of social/economic conditions; the how and why things are the way that they are. In the States, many WC people watch propaganda outlets such as Fox News and believe they're being educated, when, in fact, they're being given a line of propaganda without any historical background. Working class history is the history against employer exploitation.

  • @bapyou ok good for you i agree now whats that got to do with what i said????

  • @brcx300 He's a Comedian not a Professor

  • nice 1, i love these programes
