Small country (protected by the Gurkhas), small population, and LOTS of oil. Good for people of Brunei. They separated from Malaysia some years after 1957, and became a country of its own. Since Brunei is extremely rich, the sultan didn't want to share the wealth with other Malay states. Luckily the Tunku was a good man; he OK'ed the separation. You Bruneians, don't forget the Tunku when you celebrate your national day. Not sure whether Brunei pays money to Malaysia on annual basis.
