  • O_o_._.o_O

  • Bun E. is completely ambidextrous. He's able to play equally well with either hand. He switched over to left handed for a while back on the 80's. If memory serves, he played left handed in the video for The Flame.

  • Eniosam - his name's not Ben, it's Brad. :)

  • @Kezzabou - Oh, duh, I already said something about the Ben/Brad thing... LOL

  • Missing the inventor of the 12-string bass on this one.... waaaah. But Tony Levin kicks butt on this one!

  • Luv this video! And yes, Tony Levin is the man. I shook hands with him after a CGT show, and I swear I played bass better afterward. Blessed by Tony Levin.

  • Wow. If John and CT had made the whole album, it would have been killer! Much better than Double Fantasy turned out to be. This is great stuff!

  • Got love Tony Levin;puts his special mark on everything he plays on . Such a groove

  • Rick, Bunn E and Tom were obviously great fans of Lennon and this version is fantastic!!

  • Nielsen's goatee is(was) BADASS!!

  • It's official. Tony Levin has played on everything.

  • LOL! Yes, he has!

  • Jack Douglas produced the record and had obviously worked with Cheap Trick so he got them involved, but Yoko said "get rid of them" and the next day he had session players there. But this is how it would have turned out if Douglas and Lennon had their way.

Lennon said "I'm gonna make a record" after years of laying off, and Yoko said "No, John - WE are going to make a record".

  • The power of Yoko? I thought that Lennon was such a tough guy!! Another myth blown!!!!

  • when was recordered this song???

  • like before john lennon died so like well i dunno i thought rick nielson and tom peterson recorded with john in 1979 but i dunno when this one would have been.

  • This wasn't the first time that Rick played with Lennon. They worked on a couple of things for a Lennon disc back in the day.

  • i'm sorry but this is some INCREDIBLE!!! award winning shit you got here. go man!!

  • Tony Levin is amazing, great sound and creative lines. And he looks a lot like Bob Kulick. lol

  • awsome! Love it, but it makes me wanna puff.

  • hey wait.. is Bun E Carlos playing left handed?

  • lol actually... i do indeed believe that he is

  • He is, but he likes to switch back and forth so he can keep things fresh.

  • at 3:00 mins is the good ol John in the TUB.. lol

  • I thought this was excellent work! Very Good!

  • Cheap Trick with John Lennon. Could it get any better ? Wow !!!

  • Cool version! Which album is this on ?

  • Question for Lennon fans. Why did Yoko kick Cheap Trick out of the studio before they could play on the final version of this song used on the Double Fantasy album? Were they considered too hard or too fanboyish?

  • wow! Pretty nice!!! Nice vid, and pretty good instruments.

  • Nice jammin with you John! Can i have an autograph!??

  • I don't know who is playing what, but I do know this is a great video, fantastic visuals,

brilliant backing for the one and only John

    Lennon.

    thanks Barbs for the share

    5*........Barbara

  • that version is so much better than the one that ended up on "Double Fantasy" !! 5 stars to your Barbs for sharing it, and no thanks to Yoko lol!!

    Rob

  • Yoko canned Cheap Trick from this project..Like she knew anything about music anyway

  • G.Gordon Liddy on the bass AWESOME!

  • WTF is Liddy doing there??

  • LOL! I think that's just Tony Levin!!!

  • Yeah, looks like Levin

  • it really is Tony Levin, just without his usual Chapman Bass-stick...

  • It's called "A DEMO" you twit!

  • i think it is a Tribute to john lennon to recognize the extraordinary talent of ALL the menmbers of cheap trick. obviously he did vocals etc..but fair do's, robin Zander has a great rock voice and Petersson is an eceptional bass player 12 string mandolin anyone/

  • Rick Nielsen & BunE Carlos were in studio with Lennon because Jack Douglas ( double fantasy producer)asked them. He produced first Cheap Trick album and Budokan live. He also produced Aerosmith's great aera. In several interviews, he always put cheap trick at the top of the list. He hold them in high esteem. "They opened the book " for all of a musicians generation, in despite of low public recognization.

  • Yoko didn't want this version on DOUBLE FANTASY. It was finally released on the LENNON ANTHOLOGY.

  • This is odd. I never knew that was Cheap Trick backing him. It's always been my fav version though since the Anthology's came out.

  • Why is Bun E. Carlos playing drums left handed? And who is playing bass? That's not Petersson.

  • The bass player is Tony Levin, legendary session musician from NYC (who also did all bass on Double Fatasy album).

Why Ben is lefthanded here? Good question. Superstition?

    =^D

  • Bun E. is left handed and can switch up.

  • Left handed maybe, but that would bluster his roadies every night, switching up.I think its a video trick...check live shows and his kit is set up the opposite.Ringo Starr is also left handed........ooooh spooky coincidence..NO!

  • @eniosam It could be an homage to Ringo. He was left handed and played right handed. That's how he got that legendary hesitation.

  • @eniosam - Ben? Bun, more like. His real first name is Brad, in case you didn't know. Sorry about the thumbs down, I missed the Reply button!!

  • That is not Cheap Trick...Bun E. Carlos and Ric Nielson were session players on the same album with Tony Levin, but when they became close to John during production,Yoko was afraid they were doing it to further their careers and fired them.

  • Ahh, Yoko, trying to control everything once again...yeah Cheap Trick would include Tom Petersson and Robin Zander; this is just half of them.

  • Um...no. Jack Douglas BROUGHT them in.

  • @sennipup, he's left-handed, from what I understand, he just alternates when he's playing drums.

  • correction: "Frida Kahlo"

  • at 2:52 Yoko looks like Frieda Kahlo

  • Lennon said Rick was an incredible player and that he wished he was better than Clapton.

  • what a weird thing to say

  • No...Lennon said Rick WAS better than Clapton!

  • this is pretty great!

  • This is pretty great. When Nielson was aksed in an interview years ago about the influence he said that really the band were all Stones fans. Brilliant. Cheap trick are the essence of hip.

  • Too bad this didn't come out on the LP. I've always wondered what it sounded like. It rocks and John's voice sounds great with a rocking band backing him up. Thanks for posting this!
