  • i think that a trade school is really good if u know exactly what you want to do and so in a year u can learn how to be a mechanic of that specific car, motorcycle, or whatever. i think on average or atleast the ones i have done some research on they cost 30 to 45 grand a year but most are one year or less programs so... 45 grand is way better than spending 88grand like most state colleges or more.

  • Education purpose is to learn how to formulate thoughts and for communications. I agree with you when it comes to a specialized area of education if you are persuing a specific skill set. Education is basically becoming the authority on a subject. I think a lot of people who are less educated develop feelings of inferior complexes and it causes them to make negative decisions like crime. Then they discover the importance of education when its too late. We need the basics for all platforms.

  • The uneducated will say NO.

  • great point "learning business from someone who never owned a business" soomething I have thought about too. I know in my profession, professors are a lot of people who couldn't handle a high school classroom.

  • I am mostly against it as a practical thing.I really didn't learn much in college that taught me how to be a teacher.College is basically a weeding out process for employers, the gen idea is you went, finished, better prospect. As far as general knowledge, it is 'ok' but in a perfect world they should have got that general knowledge in high school. As far as business, yes and no, college can be great for connections.I have never went to business school so I don't know exactly what they teach.

  • meaning that college is not for everyone...for example I just started a new job I have 2 years of college exp, in training there are many other individuals in class which have a 2nd masters degree keep in mind this job requires a bachelors degree to work there, how did I get this job? business experience not education. A person must sit down & look into a mirror & realize what they want & evaluate the proper path towards getting what they want. School will not prepare you in work situations.

  • I think there are many dimensions to this subject, mostly to individuals in which are taught or brought up differently. Many individuals growing up believe high school then college then family then kids with also the imbersument of bills as well "American Dream". Not many people are really going for what they want to do in life, college students are not even in the same career field as there major they graduated with in college. Everyone is different some people are just fast learners

  • most of college is a big waste of time, but I would still recommend going there to learn stuff, and to get laid.

  • those things that we have to learn are put in place to weave people out. If we didnt have to know those things depending on your field of study most people would have a degree. A degree is just a paper saying that you have met certain criteria not that you are able to do a certain job

  • I just posted some of my thoughts, but young people reading this...PLEASE GO TO COLLEGE. Use it, use it like it is using you. Use it to learn, think, figure out the "game" the as much as possible. Will going guarantee you anything? No, but not going may cost you more. The system is flawed, but it is still the best system available, legally anyway. If you have the opportunity to be able to learn by doing and not being in the class room, by all means, do. Off to Art so I can become a nurse..haha.

  • I have started my own successful business without a degree. I have passed the business off to family that will allow them to provide for their families for years to come. Now I am now pursuing a degree in nursing. I am all for well roundedness and respect every discipline, but someone not being able to be a Nurse because they got a C in Calculus, or a not becoming a Biologist because they struggled with Art History is just silly. Just my thoughts.

  • I will be a dentist in a couple of years and my patients will want me to know anatomy very well. It's hard to work from 7am to 2 am, between classes and study. But what do you want me to do? Stay at home and drink beer from a keg?

  • I don't know about everyone else.. but my proffession is hardly a straight line. I borrow from most disciplines I learned in college at some point of the day.. business.. coding logic, math, literacy from english classes you name it... each part contributes in some way to my field (I am a platform analyst)

  • @dracdoc I respect that, but mostly I am talking about from a point of owning your own business. In the business world it's about serving people, the more you serve the more money you can make. Like your cologne channel, you can turn that into a money making machine and make more than you can at your job. Is college needed for that?

  • @mohammedabshaun Ahh, I see what you mean.. good point

  • @mohammedabshaun business school also teaches you about how to handle the business finances, logistics and management. All this will aid you when your business grows. I think that having a broad knowledge base serves you better than a specialized and narrow one. You will be able to do exactly what you do well, but can miss a lot of opportunities. Math often helps you develop analytical skills. That is, if you understand the math and not just plug numbers into formulas.

  • @mohammedabshaun Accept you're wrong.

School teaches you a lot more than to open a business.

You get grammar so you don't make grammar mistakes when you speak, like some Black guys from the Antilles I know who talk about money on You Tube. School teaches you general education, and the right language as well as the comnnections a business has to the rest of the productive area of the economy.

There are a lot more than the basic principles of business that you study at college.

  • If passing tests don't matter, then let a Dr. that hasn't passed tests cut you open, then sue him w/ an attorney that hasn't passed the bar.

  • @judutchinski he obviously wasn't talking about those kinds of profesions. obviously for a long time there will be needs for passing tests. but for business it's not important. have u been a student

  • @judutchinski this is probably one of the areas where education is needed. But I guarantee you, most is learned when they are hands on not in the classroom.

  • @mohammedabshaun - i would respectfully say it benefits in most areas than not. A degree is a separate story. But a top school is invaluable for exposure to things. It's not just history lessons. To steve jobs he sees opportunity like in his typography classes. You'd say hogwash. Doesnt mean degree though I can attest from my pedigree all my classmates are world leaders in the field. It's GOOD schools that matter, not shitty ones. If you went to one you'd have alot more to draw from than not.

  • @mohammedabshaun Scients shouldn't go to school, then, either.

Once you become rich, after we recover from the depression that's coming, in about 50 years, I hope you remember to hire an accountant who hasn't gone to school.

  • @judutchinski LOL.

A jab and a knock out!

  • this vid demonstrates my point watch?v=nWoFPcdcA1E&feature=related

  • Brother Mohammed I have question I'm currently finishing my freshmen year in college and thinking about majoring in international business as I also have passion for traveling and business, but many of my friends are telling me that this degree is useless unlike finance or accounting, I don't knw but is this true? Please I don't mean to offend u but thats what I been told by many.

  • @gadsawi4ever I will never tell you to dropout just remember that business is really learned with you boots on the ground

  • @gadsawi4ever International business has never been a useful career. Same with Customs. As the economy is going down, this career is even more useless. Business is getting killed. Search the BALTIC DRY INDEX and you will see the amounts of products being shipped between nations. The economy is about to go belly up, and that will be the most useless career.

  • Mohammed, this video speaks personally to me. That fear I spoke about in one of your earlier videos is college. The idea of going back to college gives me the shivers - but I feel I have no choice. I'm terrible at school - studied until my eyes went bloodshot only to have power hungry professors hand me an F. I'll be the first ton tell you college is practically useless. However, as you said, customer relations are important. Customers want to see that degree. Perception beats substance.

  • this brother.. bless him, allways comes with the thought that mathers, that others wouldnt know what the hell to say about.. anyays as usual bless you my fellow innteligent brother Mohammedabshaun

  • anything in finance u want. wheter it be business, economics, stock trading. dude it's rediculous. these people have their heads up their asses, they lack the ability to stop and think for themselves.

and in the pass 2 weeks, reading all these books i read. i probably learn 13 times more than they do in a year. in just 2 weeks. there so many flaws with this degree mindset. like i said. with the devolopment of the internet and amazon and so on the cheese moved, but no one adjusted

  • it's outdated thinking. this college thing would have been ideal like 30-50 years ago. but with advancements in technology and so on comes after effects. but ppl didn't get the memo. and they ever adjusted their lifestyle. there is too much information out there to be paying hundreds of thousands to learn some shit i can learn for free

and not only free, what about amazon. because of the internet rush, every one is writing books on almost any topic u can think of

  • shaun ur familar with the who moved my cheese mindset. wouldn't u say for the most college is a bit of outdated thinking. i mean, come on i get it if u want to be a doctor or lawyer cuz u want to help ppl. but when it comes to things like business. it's absolutely rediculous

u don't need it. this information age is out of control. knowledge is leaking out of my computer, so much so i need a mop. why do i need to go someplace to learn it

  • As a full time student I must say that education is very important.. Would you want someone to operate on you that didn't have a good education? .. One of my friends is a MLT ( Medical Lab Tech) and believe me math is very important. As far as business world goes, I know a few that are very successful and don't have much of an education the school they went too was of hard knocks they learned by trial and error but they done very well and very successful

  • Could not agree more. Really.

  • There is one thing that is not heavily taught in school or even high ed...it's called "compounding interest" which is governed by an algebraic equation. Ironically, after graduating college..many students financial lives are destroyed for years as a result of this equation and the student loan industry. College is largely a huge waste of time except for a few professions. You are better off taking an apprentiship as college does not teach job skills nor does it foster creativity.

  • math is VERY important. When I was a younger (in high school), I broke a window and instead of measuring the window exactly..I sectioned the window off into a right triangle and used a trig function to gain an "approximation" of the size of glass I needed so that it wouldn't be a tight fit between the glass and the window pane. It fit PERFECTLY and I replaced it before my mom got home. History is important because history tends to repeat itself so an understanding of history is imperative.

  • the degree is the most over rated thing in america, atleast one of the most over rated things. going to college to learn business is a waste of time and is only for people who lack thinking skills. i read books about business. in one year i learnt more than they do in 15 years. what a waste of time.

if they want ot be a doctor or something then fine, but it's a big rip off. and people who oppose it, dont want to hear it because they went to college themselves.

  • abdul, maybe that guy wants to be a scientist that's why he's studying math. Youi can't learn calculus on the street.

  • I agree with you..I went and finished college. All they do is force you take useless classes. Give you a little related to the MAIN subject you want to focus and send you off with a piece of paper and debt. College is overrated and I want my money back.

  • Here's why your dead wrong about steve jobs. He said had he not taken the typography class in school he never would have started apple. Had he not been exposed to college he would never have known to take the typography class. Yup yup. admit it Abdul. You owe me a biscuit. LOL!!

  • Pretty much most of the people I went to school with are already world leaders in advertising or are almost there. I spun my wheels for years and got nowhere. Wisdom is key to making smart decisions and you are getting more wisdom. Steve jobs did go to college but he didn't get his degree.

  • Yes. In advertising it's part portfolio and part the school you went to. Your resume would never be seen had you went to a mediocre school. You might get lucky but likely not. Ad Agencies go to the best schools to recruit. Meanwhile I know others who said it didn't matter and they can't get a single door to open. Meanwhile I'm yawning telling VPs to fuck off literally and they beg me. It's hype because of the school i went to. Really, I'm a hack and I know it. I use alot of terminology. lol.

  • Awesome debate you got going on Mo'

I really think like you on this one.

  • Abdul: My response is formal education will earn you a meager living where as self education will make you a fortune. A college degree is a very expensive work permit to allow you to work in a cubicle for 8 hours and make just enough money to pay the bills.

  • @prettysteeve47 narrow point of view.

  • From what I understand back in the day when college wasn't a requirement for every company you could go to a college and pay relatively low fees out of pocket to learn just what you wanted to learn and then go out and start working. These days an associates in most fields is worthless, a bachelors is only good enough to get you an Internship and a masters might get you a job interview, most companies look for unpaid interns to do the work in our time now.

  • you can so what I did, I took a lot of business classes, but because I was not enrolled in their degree program I did not have to take all the stupid prerecs and crap that usually go along with it. I jumped to the good stuff.

  • its stage to me that you like posts on facebook about not knowing who all of these important scholars are but people know who snookie is but then you make videos like this. You are KILLING ME. Knowing something about history and a broad range of topics IS important to being a well rounded person. I think that there are a lot of useless degrees out there, and sadly, unless you are going to go further to be a CPA a busness degree might be one of them. I think thats why you feel that way.

  • @GraceAnnHawkins strange*

  • Isn't business school mostly about learning how to run someone else's business anyway

  • most people believe in a degree. a degree may have its place for some people such as, nurses, doctors, lawyers, chiropractors, etc >>for the most part its designed to create workers a labour force to serve the matrix

  • Those that want to learn, can just read the books, watch the courses on video (at their own pace) and skip the classes and high tuition.

If an accreditation is important, then allow people to take an exam to prove competence -regardless of attending a college.

Those that don't want to learn, are wasting time and money.

Education seems like a racket, in my humble opinion.

  • We do not need college but it is helpful for a number of reasons...

On a personal level: A college degree is great for teaching you new ways to learn and think.

On a job level: A college degree is great for showing an employer you have the ability to learn and be taught.

On an entrepreneurial level: Psychology classes are great for how to relate to customers. Math for balancing your account books. English (or primary language) classes for writing business plans etc.

Its not a NEED but useful

  • @Pullingmyselfup Of course all of these things can be gained through other ways.

  • college and learning trades is fine...it's the costs that ARE not in alignment. Experience and mentoring in lieu of college works too.

  • College is good for people that don't want to own a business.

  • Yeah some very good points and to take into account it costs a fortune to get a degree. I mean my degree in computer science cost me probably about $30,000. Do I think it was worth it? It kind of saddens me to say but no I don't think it was. The thing is too it's full time work for 3 or 4 years to get a bachelors and people forget to take that into account. So I would say tuition 30,000 + (25,000 * 3) = 105000 wow not that I look at it definitely not worth it.

  • School is important but by and large its a money racket...

  • College is a big scam. Tenured professors have been vetted because they toe the lefty PC line, freethinkers get a raw deal. The world has changed a lot in the last 10 years and the old mantra "get a college degree" doesn't hold anymore. What's needed is practical skills. People who can think on their feet and are smart , imaginative problem solvers. College takes the originality out of people, they all rack their brain to remember what they learned in coll. instead of facing the issue at work.

  • @Khamomil i agree 100%, the only good experince about undegraduate are the internships.

  • Yes, you do need education regardless of what your studying. Education is more than just learning a subject. Education at higher level is about making your brain more analytical regardless of what your studying and what happens if your business fails? you would want some reassurance that you're qualified enough to at least get a job. People like Buffet and those other guys who reached to the top without their education are there because of their core values, not many people have those values.

  • We need formal education but we need to have a more freedom in learning. Mohameed you should see education in South-East Europe, only theory and facts , no useful knowledge.

I studied 5 years pharmacy MSc BUT learned about my job in the real life.

  • @verapamil07 most people learn their job in real like. My bachelors is International Business, but I don't refer to my degree to operate my business.

  • College itself is a business. That's why it is there. School is a sham. Unfortunately, it is needed if you wish to make a decent living working for someone else. As far as your own business, I wouldn't waste one cent of my money or one second of my time with college if I were starting my own business. It would be detrimental to your success other than the socializing/networking aspect.

  • Colleges add all of those extra classes you dont need so they can get more money. If they took out those extra unnecessary classes, most people would graduate within 6 to 24 months.

  • @314jrock I agree

  • @314jrock that is what college suppose to do, not taking a bunch of classes that have nothing to do with your degree. College says it to broaden our mind to new ideas, people, etc, yeah right, its to broaden their pockets.

  • @314jrock that is true. a good friend of mine was a fine arts major, they made her take all kinds of math classes. not that math isnt important, but its a joke to say that advanced math relates to a fine arts degree

  • @314jrock i completely agree i'm an accounting major i finished all my accounting courses and now have a job yet i'm still struggling to graduate because of English history and geography etc... filler classes i need to take in order to get my 120 credits for my degree i skipped all the crap classes to get the education i wanted now i have to PAY for unnecessary classes just to graduate and that's not even including the required additional 30 credits i have to take for the CPA bullshit

  • @314jrock while I hold totally different opinions than mohammedabshaun on this topic I still can say that for lots of degrees this is still true. long live community college and accelerated degrees! I'm getting a 4 year degree in 2 years, so much BS has been cut out, but you get that in community colleges because they arent as big of a racket as large universities. but people look down their noses at them still... their loss though.

  • @GraceAnnHawkins One thing that I hate about college is how they try to get you to buy brand new expensive books at the college. College books cost hundreds of dollars per book. Colleges try their hardest to get people to buy books from the college because they know that people can easily go online and buy used books cheap.

  • @314jrock That is sooo true. I would say English is important in helping with writing skills.

  • very good video

  • very good video again, get your veiwers thinking which is good but asked yourself this why is it that 1% of the world population make95% of worlds wealth ?

  • Great video

  • Without the transmission of knowledge through formal educational institutions you wouldn't be able to drive a car, because they wouldn't exist, you wouldn't be able to build a bridge, because you wouldn't have the engineering knowledge, you wouldn't be able to have diplomats who actually know how to deal with heads of states, because they'd be too ignorant, etc. If you ask me, I will say yes, I believe education is very important, and I'm primarily completing my degree for personal purposes.

  • @wakold he isn't saying education isn't important, he's talking more about the formal education which prepares you to get job and make someone else rich. I'm studying Japanese on my own and not at a university. I'm still educating myself but not at a formal setting. If i wanted to learn more about engineering, I can get a book read it, try building my own things and learn from those who are engineers. You are still getting your education but not in the usual classroom setting.

  • @wakold I am not saying education isn't important just the right type of education. Why do I need to learn how to build a bridge if I am a nurse.

  • @mohammedabshaun I can assure you there is no bridge building in nursing programs, smartass! lol

  • @wakold i do not agree with you we do not need educational institutions for the things you said correct me if i'm wrong but people invented airplanes BRIDGES cars boats even practiced medicine before college ever existed through apprentice ship the idea that you work under an experienced person for everything they know and most of these educated politicians don't have a clue whats going on in this country

  • @tmj0431 Man I can't believe some people out there really think we do not need educational institutions. How do you think all the technological developments of the 20th and 21st centuries were invented? What was the life expectancy in most countries 100yrs ago and what is it now? IDo you think an apprentice system works in a globalized economy with 7 billion people doing business all over the world? wake up dude. I'm sure you wouldn't want your brain surgeon to have learned that way...

  • Just a bunch of bull shit

  • I agree with your point when you say: learn outside the box. Although, here in Europe a bachelor is not a waiste of time. I'm going to university but not with the thought of working the same job for somebody else's success. Good video!

  • in an utopian society i would say no one does not need a college degree but unfortunately in the work society a degree holds weight. Like i said before college can not teach one ambition, creativity and a ruthless drive for success ...those traits come from the inside. College teaches you to become a follower, a worker bee or better yet an employee.

  • I agree man. I'm doing a computer programming degree and have learnt far more doing my own research than what they teach me. It's a waste of time and money just for a piece of paper (for my degree anyway).
