  • I have a question for you when u say from an external HD.

My question is WHAT if the HD is centralized and shared on the network WIFI and I want all the music from that folder, will it connect and read all that music?

  • @gargara The Squeezebox doesnt do anything by itself. You have to install the serversoftware on your network, and the Squeezebox will connect to that.

Depending on your LAN the serversoftware can access your centralized HD.

Im running Squeezebox Classics in my home, all hooked up to my Squeezeserver, playing FLAC files throughout the house.

  • @kentoldhoj Teh server software? you saying I need another computer running with squuezebox connecting to that computer? then Its a waste of money.

You just buy for 200$ a notebook with touchscreen(50$) and then plug it to your stereo and you get more than that. so squuezebox is good for nothing.

It should go look for a folder to a specified address on the network and then I can say is a good product.

thanks for sharing this info ;)

  • @gargara All products of this kind need a running computer to get access to the music. Im surprised this comes as a surprise to you ;-)

Squeezebox just use their own serversoftware to be able to customize the functions of the product. The serversoftware can be installed on any computer on your network. I use a small ION330 based computer wich allso runs my videoserver and home automation system. All controlled from my phone.

  • @kentoldhoj well I thought maybe they created something cool like the iomega that I have include the basic webserver to watch the pictures.

i was wondering what kind of file / service the SB needs to understand what it is reading so maybe by IP:port/ and a pre-generated file it could work.

    Tell me more :D

  • @gargara i'm also thinking if the SB connects to a radio then it is mp3 and they for sure have 2 options (direct stream, m3u list) and if it is like that we coud theoretically pass this pre-generated list. Can you try that?

  • @gargara The SB more or less acts like an oldfashioned terminal. Everything happens on the server (interface, decoding, etc.). This is an awsome feature, because it makes the SB expandaple. New audio formats, interfaces or features? No problem, just update the serversoftware. There are litteraly 1000s of addons for SB, that do everything from weather and stockmarket to small games and online services. Just make your own flavored SB! ;-)

  • @kentoldhoj so most probably works fine.

I may gave you a link and then we could try, what do u think? I will set up a link and see if it works...before of buying it :) I want to make sure.

  • Very nice presentation!

  • This is not their second product + they had non-speaker models already before this. Just so you know.
