5:30 i do agree and disagree with what the guy said about creative decision Making it hasn't limited the engineer its limited the musicians Digital has open so many doors for engineers its limited the musicians. Because musicians instead of concerning over there music they worry about how much gear they got and they have no good skills at there instruments
Why do you need so many inputs, 16 well placed mics with an XL4 and a stock effects and insert rack should be overkill for any 5 piece rock band that can can play together properly. The band creates the sound themselves, a good engineer just needs to stay out of the way and let it be what it will be. If you want perfection go work for Steely Dan. If you find yourself technically or creatively limited by any equipment, room or band then you're missing then you have missed the point.
@readerwriter well lets say from your 16 mics already ten mics for james leads which are all around the stage, leaves you 6 mics for rest of the band =DDD metallica uses something like this: 2-4 channels for kick drums, 2 for snare, 4 for toms(do they use triggers then its four more) about 5-9 for symbals(one mic for everyone), 2-3 for bass(propably),
Vastaa tähän videoon... guitars 2-3 for james 2-3 for kirk, ten those vocals about 15 if we count all vocal mics on stage then the stereo ch for all tapes etc. did you get the point? it makes something 30-50 mics on stage. why??? IT ALL ABOUT THE SHOW!!
if james would not have those mics all around the stage he couldn´t move so much and if lars would use overheads etc. he would propably fall them down when he would lay down on those symbals, you know what i mean? =D
Calling all sound engineers, Listen to this guy, he has engineered for me years ago,
