  • i grew up with this exact model, my mum bought it in 1983 and replaced it in 2003, the only thing that went wrong with it was the brushes, living proof they were PROPERLY MADE!

  • @Dazzyc84 .... yep - hotpoint motors are a bit brush hungry. apart from those, the machines were generally reliable. Properly made - absolutely!

  • @matchbox3236h my mum allways used to have this machine it died 4 yrs ago only thing that wen wrong with it was the brushes and the bearings had gone she then got the hotpoint ultima and that lasted 2 yrs so says it all for todays products

  • @kentlad83 .... for sure, the old stuff had more longevity built in to them. Glad that your mum got good service from her machine. Shame that the replacement machine wasnt quite as good.

  • @Dazzyc84 Can you still get these type of Hotpoints? Why can't Hotpoints be made like they used to be. They used to actually wash in water unlike the modern ones.

  • @1pifco ..... very rare machines now, though the occasional ones do surface on the likes of ebay. Very long lived machines, but really are thin on the ground these days.

  • love the bit at 3.13 D.

  • Do you know when this machine was made?

  • @theawesome6842 .... yep! It was made in November 1982.

  • The original classic Hotpoint spin :).

  • @deeveyboy ....indeed so. very distinctive and recognisible.

  • @matchbox3236h I've got a Hotpoint ultima washer/dryer I got three years ago and the spin cycle is nearly half an hour long, not got the same character at all :/.

  • is that sudden electronic nose when it kiks in to spin the machine? if so that has got some very good power in the moter

  • @thekylejohn1 ...cant honestly detect the noise you mean, but the mate who found the machine said that the motor was one of the smoothest Hotpoint motors he has tinkered with. Very smooth and with superb motor bearings. Certainly got the Hotpoint 'ooomphhhhh'.

  • u still got this machine had any problems with it

  • Yep - still got the machine. Its currently sat in storage with a 1828 Liberator De Luxe on one side and a 18371 Super Electronic the other.

All is fine though it does require the outer tub treating for a leak issue.

  • @matchbox3236h can u do more vids of it please

  • the machine is in storage at the moment - unfortunately dont know when it will be next out to play with though. Have a 18371 to sort out next!

  • i have a miele washer and its about 9 years old and i love i!the last one was a hotpoint aquarius, and it was not a good machine at all..the miele has heavy duty working in it and i expect it to last for years yet......

  • Can you still get these machines from second hand shops or ebay? Thinking of getting one as modern ones are crap.

  • Very very very very occasionally one surfaces on ebay, but they are very infrequent.

Second hand shops are a virtual no. I think they are perceived as not looking new enough to be worth anything to the shop. I havent ever seen one in a second hand shop.

    They are very illusive.

  • @lurcher2009 not all modern ones are junk you can get good ones and bad ones at any time peaireod

  • @lurcher2009 these machines are still about but geting harder to find now ebay is just posabel were you can get any old washing machine

  • how many RPMs is it spining in

  • 800rpm fast and 500rpm slow

  • this is a real hotpoint why they changed to modern units

  • allegedly its something they call progress.

Personal thinking is that that is debatable, especially when you see so many 2 or 3 year old machines at council tips (of all brands).

Machines aint built like they used to be.

  • if you have the dryer on the washer the vibe can cause the lid of the washer to dint in and catch on machinary and cause the heating elerment to fail or cause fire but great sount on the spin i have watched this vid over and over again 18 times its not like that these days its all fancy LED lights and LCD screens NOT ECO

  • Dont worry! the dryer is stood on pads to absorb some of the shock. Well protected.

  • Sorry to comment again, but I've just been reading some of the comments and watching this again and again, I just love the no-nonsense way these old Hotpoints operate; nice high water level washes, hassle free spin etc. Surely if OOB protection was sooo important these machines would well and truly be "fubared" by now. Apparently older machines are quicker due to the higher level of water + agitation. I just wish machines were still like this today. Excellent video, many thanks for uploading :)

  • glad you like.

indeed - strong and robust machines with no fussy stuff like oob (that came much later). machines nthat did exactly what it said on the tin. they dont make em like they used to!

  • Glad you agree with me.

  • i also like this machine but one thing i dont like is the way it distributes the washing does'nt cling to the drum it just floats in the middle so its not balancing very well

  • I really want to get my hand on an old Hotpoint, I love the way they spin straight up to speed without hesitating!

  • the motor sounds like its not an original hotpoint motor on distribute and wash speed but on spin it sounds more like it, is it a cheaper motor or a special one?

  • nope - totally original GEC Hotpoint motor. in fact, the motor was found to be in superb condition and runs really very smooth for its age.

Re the sound issue - bear in mind that the machine is of totally different construction (wrap round bodysides and lid), is out from under a work surface and also has an enamel outer tub, rather than plastic.

These could contribute to sounding slightly different.

  • 800rpm fast and 500rpm slow

  • Do u still have that machine?

  • What year was it made in?

  • Constructed in November 1982

  • Do u still have it?

  • this is a great machine, and very similar to an almond coloured version my cousin had. What year is it?

  • Hi there. Its November 1982. The almond machines were introduced, I think, in 1983 and tended to be exclusives to particular stores. They were the last versions of this style of machine, as they were replaced by the 'New Generation' machines from 1982 through 1984.

    Cheers for viewing

  • These were great machines, and if im right, they were MUCH quicker and thorough than todays machines, fill with a bit more water so give a good thorough wash, and the two tier spin, simple and efficient. Anyone on these washer vids have anyway to record the now dying away REX laundrette machines, i dont have a camera and i'd feel silly filming these monster machines in action. I think REX machines were built by Zanussi, very quick machine, and like these, very simple, but with spin drain.

  • Totally agree with your comments re the 18361. its a great machine, from a once great manufacturer, and will be kept going for as long as possible. For as long as it is mine, which will be for the foreseeable future, it will never be 'got rid of'. A simple and to the point machine - just need a liberator now!

Not too aufait with launderette machines, but i am under the impresion that Zanussi and REX are, well, very close. cheers for commenting.

  • As a twin tub user, if i ever had to have an auto, i always say i'd have one of the old Hotpoints, like these or the later ones that have the same spin sequence, the ones just before they were re-modeled WM### or whatever. Remember my mate mom had a full kitchen in Hotpoint appliances, the purple door washer and dryer and the Ice Diamond fridge and freezer with the purple round handles. Never thought much of Hotpoint twin tubs though, stick to my Hoovermatic Deluxe.

  • cor blimey - a full Purple Hotpoint kitchen. what people wouldnt give full such a classic collection of vintage UK appliances.

  • Hi would you be able to do vids from your A3350? What was the formal name of your mums machine 95450 or something?

  • hi there.

we are sorting our storage arrangements at the moment and the a3350 is in an awkward position at the moment.

i would think it will be out again early in the new year and i'll make some vids of it.

I have a couple, but they are pants and not really worth uploading.

the official title of the Hotpoint 95450/95452 was 'Electronic De Luxe'.

    Cheers

  • In the UK don't you also have the washer/dryer 2 in 1 machines where you can put under your kitchen counter?

  • Indeed we are able to purchase combined washer dryers - you would be mad to do so though! whereever possible, you should always buy seperates - washer dryers have smaller capacity drums usually, they cant dry a full wash load and they are far less reliable than normal washers or dryers.

  • Did the wash get sudsy at all? I remember that my Grandma had a machine like this quite a few years ago. Good to see it restored and working well. Thank u for filming it.

  • I cant honestly remember - was a few months agon now. In all truth it probably did, as my other half is shall we say liberal with his dosing technique - he likes his suds!

  • So do I! Thank u for replying to my comment and thanks for running the machine! Great to see it still going strong - a few years left in it I hope.

  • spare parts permitting! in the medium tern it will need some more work doing on the drum but, fingers crossed, it will be going for many more years to come. cheers.

  • That's good. I enjoyed ur video and hope that there is more to come.

  • can you do a normal whole cycle ??

  • will have to wait a while, as the machine is currently in our collection store.

When it is brought out again, I will try my best to meet your request and make you a vid.

  • ok;)

  • 800?

  • Yep indeed.

800rpm fast spin, with 500rpm for slow spin.

  • Wow, what I'd give to own one of these! I've got a 2005 Hotpoint washing machine which is no way near as good as this machine! and since being bought by Indesit the newer Hotpoint models only seem to get worse. Fab machine! They don't make them like they used to

  • totally agree with your comments - the numbers of young machines you see at the council tips today is truly a disgrace. they definately dont make them like they used to - mores the pity.

  • Fantastic! Remember these models well, especially the ones with the purple plastic doors!

  • Is that the liberator you mentioned. If it is my mum had one of those lasted 13 years

  • The WM12 is actually being used by one of his mates as a daily usage machine. Still going strong.

  • Hi what is the maxium spin speed on this washer. Also what year was it made.I'm guessing late 70's but might be wrong.

  • This machine is middle of the road re: its spin speed - its an 800rpm maximum, from 1982.

The basic design of this machine hails from way back in 1973, when the purple Hotpoint Liberators were introduced. The intervening years saw colour changes but, other than that, mechanically very little changed until they were phased out between 1982 and 1984. A very successful design!

A machine from the replacement series can be seen in my 95620 vids.

  • whichwasher2007-I dont have that washer,It is just a profile pic!

  • exactly same as hotpointlover's hotpoint, including the radiator and the detergent at the side.

  • How do Matt.

Hotpointcrazy is the guy you mean to refer too and yep it is the same machine, but a different vid.

The 18361 is in joint ownership between Hotpointcrazy and myself - I actually filmed the videos.

  • cool, so do you both live near each other.

  • The buzzy noise you hear intermittently is a bit of play within the pump - will sort it out when next we take the machine to pieces.
