  • This album is amazing, right up there with Smile and Pet Sounds. I can listen to it almost endlessly. And all I can say is, "Thanks, Brian."

  • 1966 Pet Sounds was it.

  • bRIANS VOICE IS NOT GONE THE SICKNESS IN HIS VOICE HAS GONE NOW ITS JUST MATURE SWEET SOUNDS IF YOU LISTEN YOU WILL HEAR IT SO TRY TO SNELL THE ROSES WHEN YOU WALK INSTEAD OF SAYING AND SEEING ONLY THE THORNES FOOL

  • if he didnt go nuts in the 60s, the beatles and the beach boys wouldve had so much more epic music.

  • This is a pathetic, desperate trial to catch up with the good times of BB.

So much wasted creativity that Brian should have used 35 years ago.

Now, it's too late, the spirit and the voice have gone.

  • @privateruler - i cant agree - brian couldnt do it then - it is what it is with him- u just gotta accept it. Brain fry. But I for one am very grateful for this gorgeoud love letter to so cal of his era.

  • What a wonderful imagination forever should be my surfergirl!

  • I love the cute violin player 1:23-1:24, her eyes are pretty....

Yeah Brian can still write great music, not as relevant as Pet Sounds or Smile but with this great band he has a great comeback!

  • brian wilson should stop adopting babies and focus on his blood children and granchildren

  • This music is CRAP. Lucky old sun is a SMILE rip off!!!

  • That's a great album. Finishing SMiLE really gave him a boost and momentum.

  • LOL 0:27 capitol recordz!!11

  • @jacksedit haha, that made me laugh, thanks

  • @jacksedit he's so akward it's cute!

  • survived his drugs and is still going....good for him

  • I realize it may be exaggerated, surrounded as she is by men, by Taylor Mills takes your breath away with both her voice and her stature. I have to go back to Carly Simon performing at Martha's Vineyard for as stunning an appearance.

  • Despite sounding amazing like Bill Murray in Caddy Shack, a great effort.

  • @DAVWAVE That's fucking hilarious.

  • @senorvolasco I just read my old comment to see what funny, and wow, that was funny, and I do not remember saying it.

  • He's got a great album with That Lucky Old Sun. Scott Bennett and Van Dyke Parks have done wonderful contributions !

  • fantastico! go guy from a cali girl......woman! I am grown up ..but I am still the child at play in the cali sun not much shade....God bless....

  • i really do like this album, but man..i wish his band played with some feel. they're just too technical and perfect. irks me everytime i listen

  • This is really an under listened to work. BTW the new bassist even resembles Bruce a little bit, thanks for this post. I hope more people will give this CD a listen.

  • I'm seriously impressed! Brain really is back bigtime!

  • Brian still has it, and I couldn't be happier for him;-)

  • A wonderful album. Against all odds, he's really still got it.

  • This record is an unexpected masterpiece. Very strong effort. He's 66 years old and none of his contemporaries are doing anything this ambitious. Southern California is a beautiful song and was deserving of a grammy as best song and best record of 2008.

  • scott bennett can suck balls. never liked him.

Yeah Brian!!! Bri Bri is where it's at!!

  • i agree

  • very inspiring album...so much fresh and happy power that makes me to write new music again...thank you brian for everything!!!

  • TLOS is the best Brian has done since The Beach Boys Love You (Smile was written in '67). Beautiful and songs that weren't finished on a whim, a lot athought and creativity went into creating this album. He's 66 now and is finally following his own intuition again in stead of fitting a certain formula.

  • it's blows my mind that he can set out with the point to make a great song, and come out with midnight's another day. the song is so good. right up there with the 60's songs. i hope for one more album.

  • Thank you for sharing this. Good stuff!

  • One of his best albums!!!!!!!!!!

  • I finally got the CD and I just LOVE it!

  • Wow...just because you don't like a CD doesn't mean you have to attack someone else's taste in music! How rude you are.

  • Brian Wilson del siglo XX hacia el XXI

  • This CD sounds pretty fascinating to me. I'll have to pick it up really soon. I totally agree with what he says about music creation. Kudos to Brian Wilson on this latest project...he's the forever Beach Boy.

  • I saw Brian in concert this past Friday night in NYC. Fine show. Love him.

  • damn! Paul Mcartney was right. Brian, you are a GENIUS. I am still inspired by your amazing talents.

  • I loved all of Brian's solo albums, but I think "Lucky Old Sun" is his best overall.

  • my idol

  • Cheers Brian!

  • MAUMAMAYAMA GLORY HALLELUJAH !!

This is the BEST, HAPPIEST & MOST CREATIVE that Brian has sounded in over 20 years !! He's so well again !! That alone is worth getting down on your knees - every morning upon awakening - & offering up a great big prayer of thanks to the Higher Power up there !! Keep on keeping on, Brian. We LOVE YOU, man !! Long may you run !!

  • nice words... feel happy about brians new music

  • masterpiece!!!!!! can not wait until next cd.dvd.

  • masterpiece!!! brian you are so gifted. can hardly wait until next cd/dvd.

  • I bought it today and I love this album, forever you´ll be my surfer girl and good kinda love are just great!!! Never expected such a piece of art by brian at 65 and after his hard life...great arrangements and work also by the rest of the gang. what a comeback for my songwriting hero brian wilson!!! RESPECT!!!

  • I've just bought the CD / DVD twin pack. What a blast !! Like so many of Brian's best works, "That Lucky Old Sun" just grows and grows on you, the more you play it through. Each new listen, you discover something extra, something new, little or otherwise that you'd missed on previous listenings. That has always characterised Brian's BEST work. And, like other commentators, I agree 100% - this IS Brian's best music since "Smile" (but Smile will always assume the No. 1 spot, I venture to opine).

  • I bought this album because of the great cover and the "Beach Boys" in my heart. But what a wonderful surprise was inside. I played it 10 times the first day I got it! And I just can't stop playing it. Beautiful writing and just enough "memories" tied into the music to make it all Brian Wilson. What a fabulous piece of work. Well Done Brian!

  • This album has had mostly positive reviews and deservedly. It's got some superb lyrics, catchy melodies and it's, enjoyably, different to anything else around. Brian Wilson, Scott Bennett and Van Dyke Parks have created an album that I listen to again and again. Unquestionably his best work since The Beach Boys (not incl. finishing Smile!).

  • I,too, can't seem to stop playing this album.

I just got tickets to see this tour. I cannot wait. What a beautiful album from a beautiful guy.

Gracias Brian.

  • An amazing album, and I love the live footage. Brian even sounds different when he talks now. He's really gotten a lot of those demons out. I hate people who complain that he sits behind the piano on stage and doesn't play. It could be so much worse...if that's what it takes to make this quality of music, sit behind TWO pianos. I don't care. WTG Brian! The new album is a masterpiece.

  • This album is amazing! I can't stop listening to it. Like all of Brian's best work, it's happy and sunshine-y at one moment, poignant and melancholy at the next. Brian Wilson, always sadly underrated, ranks with the best songwriters the world has ever produced. His tunes, song structures and harmonies are amazingly complex, but more important than anything, he knows how to touch listeners' hearts and souls.

  • I agree with you in every way - I absolutely love the record. It doesn't have the magnificent scope of SMiLE, but the songs are brilliant nonetheless. As a musician, I greatly appreciate the sophisticated songcraft. I will differ with you on one point, though: Brian is not underrated. He is almost universally recognized as a genius by the rock community. Perhaps he is somewhat ignored by the general public, because he stopped being a serious rival to the Beatles in the '60s. It's their loss!

  • a giant-what else can i, say

  • He makes my heart sing. Thanks for the share bigeeezy. Nice post emiamericarecords

  • He has a special talent! A famous musician/songwriter/producer...

    Thx for sharing bigeezy!

  • This is great!!

    5*****

Thanks to bigeeezy for the share!!

  • great post and great share of this true, musical genius! thanks, guys!!

    dlp

  • MY god what a great album.

  • Brian has been compared to Mozart by many critics. More accurately, I see a similarity to Aaron Copland and a little of Gershwin. 'Lucky Old Sun' could very well be Brian's 'fanfare to the common man', a veritable "American" Spring. I'd like for him to do a re-working of 'Rhapsody in Blue'. How about it, Brian?

  • What an album! It swirls, whirls and beams like SMILE, it sweeps and mourns like PET SOUNDS and it floats and flows like his SUNFLOWER songs.

    BW is Mr Pop Music.

  • went to the Lucky Old Sun concert at royal festival hall, London sept 2007, and could not wait for the album release. It is truly wonderful and brought back fab memories!Phil

  • sounds catchy

can't wait to buy it! lol

  • "California Role" is pure f'ing genius, as is this entire album. Brian is a king among minions.

  • i agree 100 percent!

  • WHO IS THE FINE LOOKING BLOND....

  • Taylor Mills. Look her up on YouTube: she's got a solo album.

  • And I believe she married the drummer a couple of years ago. Yes, she's always been fine ... and I really like how she's been placed in the middle blonde hair against blue dress surrouded by the boys. It has a real California Girl feel to it.

  • Taylor is indeed married to Todd Sucherman the drummer of Styxx. Todd has often played drums for Brian's band live and is the drummer on TLOS.

  • 'Been Too Long' is on it! That was from the SMiLE sessions, or from around that time and I was sad to see it didn't reappear on the completed SMiLE album. But they didn't forget about it.

  • Brian Wilson is a national treasure!

  • It sounds like "typical Brian Wilson." Which is kind of great for fans of the man's work, because typical Brian Wilson is well written, well arranged, beautifully harmonized music.

I imagine a lot of it's going to sound cheesy, but that's Brian. If you can't catch the naive, nostalgic wave, you obviously can't really enjoy it, but then what are you doing listening to his music? That's his speciality: naive, nostalgic, and optimistic. Nobody else does that, and Brian does it well. Will buy.

  • Very, very well put. I've listened to it and, trust me, you won't regret it. Best album I've heard in ages.

  • I travelled all the way from France to London to see it live!! it was wonderfull-

I can't wait to get the record and hopefully see Brian Wilson live one more time!!

  • My Top 5 BW Tunes: 1. God Only Knows, 2. Kiss Me, Baby, 3. Surf's Up, 4. Don't Worry Baby, 5. Surfer Girl.

    What's your's?

  • My Top 10 Beach Boys tunes: 1.Forever. 2. Please let me wonder. 3. All i wanna do. 4. god only knows. 5. Til I die. 6. Surfs up. 7. Let him run wild. 8. California girls. 9. the surfer moon. 10. Caddle up.

    what´s yours?

  • This is the good stuff. As soon as I heard it, I was hooked.

  • Forever Brian W.

  • Lots of good stuff on this cd.

  • I close my eyes to hear this and im in a rock and roll fantasy!!!!

  • Can't wait for this to come out. Brian Wilson is the greatest musical genius the world has ever known.

  • I think im going to cry

  • Brian's better than Mozart.

  • I,m sixty in October And what a birthday present T.L.O.S. Top ten at least. And for Brian thanks for all your music.

  • god Landrew, just enjoy the music, your worse than fox news

  • Hot damn! He's still got it! Might've been nice to see this done as a Beach Boys (or at least Brian, Mike, Al and Bruce) album, but either way, can't wait to hear the whole thing!

  • proof that no artist ever "loses it"

  • What other rock music composer today is going to use a French Horn, Violins, Cellos, Bass Harmonica etc on a record 30+ years since Pet Sounds Brian and they still have not caught up with you.

    Forever America's Pop Music Genius.

  • Heaven!

  • Can not wait for this to come out, Thanks Brian.

  • I am VERY psyched about this!!! Brian looks more confident than ever and sounds more like his ol' self again. :D Sunny days are here again!

  • His best body of work in many a year. Paul McCartney could only dream of writing music as complex, emotional and uplifting as this. Long live BW and I can't wait for his next release after this.

  • lol you had me laughing, finally someone who agrees with me on the beatles vs. beachboy/brian wilson matter ^_^

  • Paul is a musical mutant! Get real!!!!!!!!!!

  • Paul came close with his CHAOS & CREATION album. They r both huge talents, but Brian has a little something extra special.

  • Hell Yeah! Cant wait for new BW music.

  • Wonderful :-) Can't wait to buy the album!

  • I cannot wait for this to come out!!! He is still a genius! Good Luck Brian!!

  • can't wait

  • love you Brian
