I love the move she does at 0:29. Never saw anyone do that before. I saw a video on youtube of her doing Russia's version of Dancing w/the stars and she looked fabulous
Beam was obviously a weak point for Svetlana, and thats what i think killed her chance of gold in Athens because she really didnt keep her beam from atlanta or sydney. But Sydney was Svetlana's peak, no doubt about it. And it was a shame that Sydney had to screw it up in the AA or else she probably wouldve medaled
@smeetfan1234 I think she was the best all arounder in 2000, she had qualified 1st for those finals and her qualification score was higher than Andrea's score in AA finals. If Khorkina did what she was capable of she would be the olympic champion, in my opinion it was that vault placed in the wrong height that cost her the medal. Generally those olympics were a mess, the vault controversy, taking away Andrea's medal and the chinese medal from TF.
For a tall girl, she sure had done a great job. Many countries usually select short and slander ones to participate since they have physcial advantage of light weight. Khorkina, the Queen of Gymnastics had devoted all her life to her Gymnastic career even though she was already 25 in 2004. Her devotion is very admircable and whether or not this routine was good, it won't take away from her success and fame. She's the only Gymnastic athlete (males or females) in the world that worths knowing.
@Gr33nkiwi I agree, I'm not at all a fan of her beam work. She's the queen of uneven bars, but the beam makes her look 10 feet tall and incredibly clumsy.
@gymnasticsforever95 There was a gymnast from Canada who attempted a gainer triple twist off the side of the beam. Maybe her last name was Plante? I don't remember. It was in the early 2000's but she never got the skill named after her because she touched down with her hand at the international competition she tried to perform it at.
The more I watch her, the more I believe that Sydney should have been Khorkina's crowning moment. She was so dominant as an all around competitor and her technique on ever apparatus was generally great. It's speculation, but you can almost guarantee that if the vault incident never happened, she really would have won outright.
@mjdub05 We like the gymnasts for their contributions to the sport and not just their results in gymnastics, that's why anyone who knows what gymnastics is loves Anna Pavlova despite her misfortunes. Americans like you only like Nastia solely because she wins and competes for USA. Did you ever think she is only overscored so much BECAUSE she competes for USA? Khorkina even said Carly won in 2004 because Carly is American, which is sad, but true. Again in 2008 because of the shoddy bar code.
@ChainChomp2 It's a bit naive, but I don't think there's anything wrong with one rooting for a gymnast just because they represent their own respective country. Of course many Americans would root for Nastia solely because she wins and competes for the USA, it's a patriotic thing that some gymnastics enthusiasts dismiss as childish. I, personally, root for her because she overcame a potentially devastating ankle injury and persevered. I still think her uneven bar dismount is horrendous though.
@ChainChomp2 You're just my hero. You exactly explain my though. It's not because Anna is always out of medal that she is not one of the best gymnast ever. Even though, she sometimes missed moves, she has a unique technique and grace, has beautiful body lines and is amazing. Who cares about medals, beauty, grace and power are much more important :)
Yeah, sorry. I like both gymnasts, but there's no need to compare them. They're great in their own ways. And stop downplaying their achievements. I really doubt gymnasts like Khorkina or Liukin give a fuck whether or not a bunch of 16 year-old girls in front of a computer screen approve of their gymnastics.
Nastia couldn't even think about doing a whip-double pike, a whip-triple twist or a Khorkina II vault either. I love Nastia, I think she's amazing, but please stop comparing two gymnasts who're completely different! Both have excellent skills and lovely qualities. I think it's better to focus on what they CAN do, instead of the things they CAN'T do.
I think Nastia can do a whip into the triple twist because since she was young her father train her twist hability she can do a 2.5 twist in front and a quadruple twist in back so I think a whip into triple twist isn't the enormous difficulty that she can't reach... whereas the whipe into the double pike I don't know let's see her new routines ;)
I think she'll probably keep her double front on FX, she only needs one multiple flip tumbling run and that'll do. She might upgrade her dismount, though (I'd LOVE to see her throw a triple full again, but I'm not sure she will because of her ankle). What she HAS to upgrade is her vault (DTY at the very least). Let's wait and see... ;-D
i pick sveta over nasty any day. call me biased, but there's a reason why i pick sveta. she went through 3 changes in the COP, competed in 3 Olympics, has like 8??!! moves named after her, and on top of that, at 5'5" sveta's just phenomenal. now remember sveta did throw a full on beam (see euro cup 95). i don think nastia had done that
@AnnaPavlovaFan Then why are you talking about what nastia cant do? haha and nastia competed a whip triple sometime in 2002. I love your name to btw, anna pavlovas the best
but then again nastia couldnt think about doing a full in like khorkina did in 2001 or a double twisting yerchenko or a 1/2 rudi off. but i do like nastias style alot more.
i think nastia clearly beats khorkina when it comes to form, though. khorkina lacked a lot of quad and hamstring flexibility, which is very evident in her backhandspring+layout SO+backhandspring combination, and she never finished her full-twisting elements before hand support...that rufolva was barely 3/4 in during her swingdown...plus a wobble on the full turn, cheating the switch leap and its connection...khorkina's great but if you're going to bash nastia don't base it off of beam
she never did but a lot of tall gymnasts don't, it's practically impossible. i do think in form nastia was better "most of the time" but she wasn't quite as tall as khorkina.
Actually, that Rufolva was done the Russian way...plenty of Soviet-trained gymnasts do it that way. It's not because she doesn't have the strength to complete the full twist.
You are correct. She looks amazingly tall because most of the others are sub-5feet! I LOVE her dismount;cartwheel-gainertriple twist. Nobody finesses it like her!

I think her 1996 beam was her best. It just never seemed as good after that.

Nastia competed internationally for 4 years and won 7 medals. In Svetlana's first 4 years she won 11 medals.

*Facepalm*
Olympic AA champ is better than a world title, individually compared to each other. But, we're talking about ...
3 All Around gold medals.
2 Olympic Apparatus gold medals.
6 World Apparatus gold medals.
Svetlana Khorkina has 16 INDIVIDUAL world medals. Nastia, has 7, not even half.
Svetlana Khorkina has more world gold medals, than Nastia has all her medals combined.
ONE Olympic AA win does NOT make you a better gymnast.
Please get educated somewhere other than America.
Gr33nkiwi 2 years ago
Why don't all the Nastytards call us when Nastia becomes to second most individual decorated gymnast of all time.
Why don't you call us when Nastia wins at least ONE world championship AA title.
Mmmk, Thanks.

She is amazing. she dominated the uneven bars during 10 ten years nobody bit her.
5 world titles on BARS
2 olympics titles on BARS
3 world titles in All Around. and she has 8 khorkina elements.

So many nastytards.
Anyone who thinks Nastia is in the same league as Khorkina is delusional!
Nastia use to be VERY amazing in 2005. I still like her now, but, she's very messy.
