@HartsLegacy Yeah, that's quite some size. The horse I did here was still a young horse, I can manage it now he's bigger by lifting his leg only. Better done when they are smaller :)
@WildStarPro Yeah, that's me with the horse there. I still have him, all I need to do now is lift his leg and ask him to go down, no need to use rope any more.
that's nice, but im a really short girl and my horse is pretty bigger than urs... not sure i could use that way with him ; ) anyway nice to see how it works!
I want to teach my horse this , but i am tiny . 5.2 and my horse is 15hh . Am I strong enough to hold my horses hoof while he falls over? Please answer (= x
@taayAndbenjamin4Ever I don't see why you wouldn't be. My partner is able to do it with him now. This is a very quick way to get them to go to ground. These days we only need to hold his foot and he goes down on his own.
I did that with my horse, thought id killed him coz he just threw him self on the floor. How come the pony has a mesh fly rug on in what looks like winter? Is that a mesh rug? loving the ear things
goign to teach my boy to lay down soon but not lke this.... i just taught him to bow so his front end is basically completely on the ground but im not going to pull him over so ive got to work on getting him to lie down without pulling him down because he would get scared
@BestBoysLanceAndCash I was experimenting here, saw a video so tried it myself. Tried it on different horses who react differently. This one was the easiest. It's a quick method.
haha this horse reminds me of my dog when the horse is trying to give up and then is like meh oh well and just lays back down.. my dog does that all the time to me haha
is wrapping that rope around your hand safe?? We never know how our 4 legged friends will react- so safety is important for us- but it was nice to see how sweet the horse responded- he obviously trusts you
@jett888 Though that is true, and I wouldn't do it with horses I didn't know. He acts as I expect because I know him, that situation wasn't so dangerous.
haha wow kinda looks like it hurts the horse but im justa softy haha umm anyways you guys know that those " hoods " that are on that horse makes their skin flake and ruins their coat because the natural oils do not have moisture to combine with and it makes them not shed normally which you may think is a good thing but really its bad for the horse.......id get rid of it if i were you........
@haileypuffs Get the horse comfortable holding its feet up. Then use the rope technique I used, eventually it will go down. At least it did work for me.
I don't really know if this is the right way of doing it. It seems to work but isn't everything about how to get the horse to trust you, not forcing it to lay down ?
@Thianca I've tried this with a horse that I knew didn't trust me, and trust me, that horse wouldn't go down. I don't think a horse will allow you to do this without a decent amount of trust in you. Naturally prety animals, they don't lay on the ground while you stand over it. If a horse will, it has trust in you. This is a quick method, lazy perhaps :)
Any tips? my pony just doesn't bend his head he just hops about until i drop his foot Lol. Everything i teach him is rather easy other than this x Lmaoo x
@Elisha347 keep working on holding the foot up until he's comfortable with it, to the point where you choose when to put the foot back down. Then try what I did in the video.
I want to do this with my horse but since she is a full grown and almost 2000 pound Percheron, it's gonna take some effort on my part lol but will be so useful for getting on her bare back!
@jessicasellen Bare back was the main reason for wanting to do this. Getting him down, and getting on while he is on the floor. I ought to get a video of this on youtube, how he is right now.
you are doing the endorphin tap...when you pull the horses head to the side, it releases endorphins into the brain, causing them to get extremly relaxed, and then lay down.
intresting about the endophen tap. we use it as a training tool a last resort thing for agresive/abused horses. always refered to it as flipping the horse.never thought to use it as just a trick though. nice to see people doing things that are diferent with horses.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't hurt the horse, they usually 'bow' before they topple over.. but as you can see here my horse doesn't bow, but instead just fulls right down :S
I have to teach him to bow so I can get on him next year when I break him to ride.
As for the balance thing, it's probably due to the horse not knowing what you want. If I were to show you a video of me doing this now, then you'd see my horse just laying down, since he knows exactly what I want him to do.
Thank you Tammi (Just checked this account again). To answer the questions though, no, it isn't difficult to get a horse to do this.. depending how you go about it. It also depends on the horse as well.
does it hurt the horse.. i have tried to teach duke to do that but starts to get ready to lay and it makes me nervous cuz he will lose his balance.. im scared it will hurt him,,lol...
Seems a little rough how he hits the ground but good job though.

@Ianachu what kinda horse is he and do you ride him
WildStarPro 8 months ago
@WildStarPro He's an Appaloosa solid coloured. And yeah he is being ridden these days, my partner rides him not I, she's training him to jump.
Ianachu 8 months ago
To make him bow turn his head under and to the left when you turn his head the opposite direction of the leg they can't gracfully go down on one knee

@milliesos Yep, fly rug is was. I believe it was a temp solution since he has a tendancy to destroy rugs somehow.
