You need to press the player 2 Start button to start the game. This is part of the tournament setup. It allows tournament organizers to control when a player's run begins.
I got 2,704,980 by playing all 3 games in Game Over mode. I got to world 8-4 in the extra mode so the majority of the points was in Mario. I lost in the 1st stage of Rad Racer but got 110 lines in tetris.
Yeah, and oddly enough, most of this video's hits come from Japanese blog posts about the most expensive video games of all time. I wonder why they choose this video instead of a video done on an actual cartridge with a higher score. Oh well, any traffic is good traffic, I guess.
Nice score ! But how did you guys train for the competition or the qualification? Since you haven't all got a copy of the NWC-cartridge.. Did you play the original games instead?
None of us had a NWC cartridge. The Ohayocon competition was actually played in Nestopia on the NWC ROM, so that was how I practiced. This video was actually made using Nestopia at fullscreen, with my video card's S-Video Out going to my TV card's S-Video In like I was capping from a console.
i know this is a very important game, but does it only have these three games? i know there are limited copies but it isnt much, unless it has more games... does it?
Yup, it only has those three games, and all in restricted versions. This is one of the few carts made specifically for a competition, and more importantly, one that Nintendo is running. High scores were still a big deal in the NES days, and this cart was designed to be high score contest to end them all.
I was at the NWC back in 1990. I got to go up on the stage and compete with others who qualified. Powerfest was a blast! I guess it's the closest thing I'll ever come to being at E3, which similarly features upcoming games to play, but only for the gaming press. Great video. Brings back a LOT of good memories.
It is faster if you die on the first level in mario bros.

One of the gold carts for this game sold for 20,000 dollars. The NES world championship of 1990. Remember it well.

Nice going there.
This is the only game I won't rant on for being played on emulator.

Excellent score, but the fact that you're playing it today in 2008 makes it completely lifeless.
