Dave Straps and I were at TOTP with the band for a recording of this song with Captain Sensible playing keyboards. It all went wrong - The band trashed their gear, Captain rolling on the stage with his keyboards, Jock McDonald thumped Dollar and we all were escorted from the building - I wonder if that footage survives anywhere - Anyone?
great band , and they are great guys ! saw them 1st time 82 ? at cbgb's one of the greatest shows i've ever seen !! at the sound check alvin let me play his bass, then me and my friends took them to get pizza ,i was 14 ...
This album was probably the heaviest the U.K. Subs ever got, possibly feeling the emergence of the likes, of Discharge, The Exploited, & Chaos U.K.. To me this is the definitive U.K. Subs. Thanks for sharing!
This is the U.K. Subs at their very best, I love this clip. The line up of Garrat, Gibbs, Harper & Roberts is in my mind the best line up the band ever had. To this day “Diminished Responsibility” & “Endangered Species” are among my all time favorite albums. This is a pretty innovative video considering it was shot in 1981. In some respects a little similar to what Whitesnake did in 1984 on the “Slow & Easy” video. This album was probably the heaviest the U.K. Subs ever got.
@twostix67 If the record as well as the sleeve is in impeccable condition it should be worth some coin. If my memory serves me right, those colored vinyl records were only issued as limited editions, probably 5000 copies or less were ever made. My vinyl collection is still in Europe. But I do remember having one of their singles on brown vinyl and another one in green. Cool stuff!?!?
@SonicIntruder77 the sleeve is abit rough but the vynil is mint,, i only paid 80 pence for it from woolworths,,, lol showing my age there,,, i also bought a sex pistols single,, it had a popcorn cover sleeve and that cost me 20 pence
@twostix67 I would look at E-Bay & Amazon to gage what they’re worth because the colored ones are so rare. Any 7” single by the Mighty Sex Pistols has to be worth a pretty penny, I’ve never known anyone that has owned a copy. I have 2 copies of Anti Nowhere Leagues’ “So What” single, those were confiscated by the C.I.D. I believe.
@SonicIntruder77 i think i have 3 sex pistols singles,,, thanks for the advice,,, im a drummer and i have just joined a punk band playing stuff like the dammed,, clash,, pistols,, etc,, im a rock drummer by heart but its real fun listening and learning some old school punk,,,,, takes me back to when i was a kid,,, my uncle was gobbed on by sid vicious hehe
@twostix67 Wow, your uncle saw the Sex Pistols with Sid, not too many people can make that claim. If any of your Pistols singles were issued by either EMI or A&M records you just hit pay dirt. If they’re on Virgin records they still have some value attached to them, especially to a collector. Playing old Punk covers can be a blast, but harder than most people might think. Steve Roberts & Paul Cook were both exceptional drummers, have fun.
@SonicIntruder77 he went to see the pistols twice,,, lucky sod. ,, i had my first rehersal with the punk band on sunday,, it went really well. they ae a very tight and very good musicians. They had seen me doing a stand in job for a local band and spent 2 weeks trying to find me. .
You can't compare the two, both are totally different in outlook, style and song writing issues.
Both bands are good but only one of them never split then reform on the back of interest in a punk revival.
Subs are THE punk band, still play small venues when they could play bigger ones, travels to gigs on public transport if poss. Charlie is a humble bloke, I 'DJ'ed at a party in his honour and when I pulled out an ancient solo 45 of his for him to sign he laughed at it (a psychedelic 45 Freaked)
another great song from a great punk band, love the subs,it makes me feel young again,i'm glad i was around when punk came along,it was exciting stuff, keep going lads and remember punks not dead,
great band, still have this in orange vynil, album "another kind of blues" is awesome, wasnt stuck on "a brand new age" have it in clear vynil, have another album, inpurple vynil, cant remember the name of it,there was a free twelve inch if i remember correct,"lady esquire" was my fav subs song
did anyone know that when the subs were recording this video U2 were at the other end of the studio recording their first video. (BOY, or something i think it was called) they had to wait for the subs to finish before they could start.
Saw UK Subs when I was 19 then again in mid 30's. The second time around was better because the first time I was slamming so much I missed most of it but in my 30's I was able to just watch them play and enjoyed it much better because I didn't want to break a hip in the pit
Saw the UK Subs live again last night, such an awesome band and Charlie is so energetic for his age! They ended the set with this one - one of the most underrated punk anthems ever
Isn't that Captain Sensible on keyboards at the end of the tune? He may even be one of the birds dancin' around - Gawd knows we've seen him in similar outfits!

I saw them hundred years ago in North London forgot the name of the place.
Got into a battle with Skinheads in the subway on the way home and had to walk through the half of London to the Youth Hostel.
Those were the days....
Could the place be the Hammersmith or something or is that not in North London?
