  • Everything is right with this video. One of those times I look at and say it will never be like this again-and feel old, but later realize there is wisdom in there. Wisdom is never old, especially in music.

  • The look on Morrisseys face after that kid says they're going to kew gardens:')

  • "Where are we going"

    " We're all going mad"

That would be wat morrissey would sayy lol

    VIVA MOZ!!

  • Great video:))

    --"Where are we going?"

    -- "We're all going mad"

--"i thought we were going to kew gardens" And his face ..LOL :) Excellent:)

  • Bizzarre and adorable.

  • i bet all ther girls on the bus thought morrissey was cute

  • if anyone said to me that when they were young they met the smiths on a bus and then went to Kew gardens and sandie shaw appeared and they all sat on the grass and she sang to them.. I would insist it MUST have been a dream!

  • I NEVER get tired of the conversation Morrissey has with that girl. My god, has anything better been captured on film, EVER? "We're all going mad"...

  • Only Morrissey could pull off a dalmation print shirt.

Its sweet how Johnny acts with the kids:)

    I think I've watched this like, 20 times:L

  • lmao, classic morrissey at 0:36

  • i sorta wanna do these kids.

  • @erootkwu You sir are a pedofile.

  • @erootkwu Not funny. Having seen your channel video, I could well believe that you're a nonce. You're certainly a dickhead - that's for sure.

  • I think I have watched this 500 times, and just LOVE it. Makes me sad and happy all at once-one of the best videos I have ever seen on YouTube to date. Thanks for uploading it.

  • If I was one of those Kids I'd feel so lucky nowadays! The met Legends and they probably weren't even aware!

  • i have that exact same red leather dress!ace!

  • Did moz lift his singing style from ol' Sandie Shaw

  • *gasp!!* at 0:18 my lord! =O

  • The low-life has lost its appeal...this is gen-i-us! Does Johnny Marr do a rude sign to that child in the beginning? Thanks for posting ..vidwo please charlie!

  • Two questions:

    1) Why does Johnny Marr like to "fake punch" all the kids?

    2) How smacked up was Andy Rourke when they made this video.

    Viva The Smiths!!

  • what johnny marr says for the kid about the origin of smiths name? i dont understand british

  • @GiuseppeBernardini He tells the kid that Morrissey thought of the name the Smiths. He goes on to explain he wanted to be called the Rolling Stones, but he reckons that would be too much of a mouthfull xD

  • what is the name of the song in the begging of the video? Its really great!

  • Nothing like a positive message for Britain's youth.......jesus.....no wonder they beg for a video!!! Classic Moz though! Great stuff.

  • @dresdamanx Lol! Just like Morrissey to take a moment to instruct the children on the hopelessness of life and the misery of the future...and look, it's Sandie Shaw!

  • go to 0:42 for a cool duck

  • lucky kids

  • "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" is playing while Morrissey is surrounded by children

  • Might just be the best thing on Youtube.

  • A nice cheery song for the kids. How on earth did all this happen?

  • That song in the beginning is awesome

  • @Flip2k

it's my favorite smiths song too.

  • is rouke and joyce their, am sure they r

  • tbh i think the kids would have preferred Meat is Murder

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • THUMB. I wanted to be crashed by this redbull

  • Most of these kids are now in prison or on drugs.

  • @oneilexpress - Why? because they did something for kids tv and had a bit of fun with them? Stop being a music snob, even The Smiths are people.....

  • @oneilexpress Morrissey will be gutted.

  • Look, it's Sandie Shaw!

  • SInging to seven year olds about the death of a relationship - love it!

  • SInging to seven year olds about the death of a relationship - love it!

  • hahaha!!! marr giving the 7 year old the wanker sign !!! 0:17 :)

  • Jeane -- such a depressing song for that occasion

  • Finding this already puts 2011 ahead of 2010 by miles.

  • I think I just died a bit when watching this XD Best video I've seen in ages.

  • i love Marr's Lennon style Hard Days Night era hat

  • fuck sake. why is morrissey never on my school bus? :(

  • Forget about the bumper music which the kids likely didn't even hear, but Jeane is a hell of a choice to sing to a group of kids that age. (And I could do without any more versions done by Ms. Shaw, thank you very much.)

  • @proteron: The look on his face kills me; you can tell he CLEARLY doesn't want to be there.

  • I love the way Morrissey comes gliding through the door 0.53.

  • the best video on youtube........by miles

  • Eh ma wass goin on?

  • I love how they use "heaven knows i'm miserable now" as the children trail around the gardens

  • @colonelchambers brilliant

  • At 0.18 it appears that Johnny is calling a little boy a wanker.

  • 'I thought we're going to Kew Gardens'...

This video is some real good crack :D

  • we try and we fail, good message for them kiddies.

  • They should've sang suffer little children

  • @rollyncoally sick bastard

  • I love how Johnny (presumably) appears to be playing around with a kid by pretending to beat him up at 1:41 to 1:48.

Also at 0:48 where he puts a jacket over a kid's head.

    Golden video, this one.

  • What exactly is Charlie's Bus? I understand that it's a british telly show but what was the purpose and did they usually have musical guests?

  • @Depplyinlove1963 It was a childrens TV show that regularly had celebreties and musical guests.

  • this is the best thing ive seen in a very long time

  • There's a Knighthood in the post for sharing this!

  • Those kids are damn lucky. Even as a child i would have probably attached myself to Morrissey and had an enormous crush.

  • watch?v=5JqXe2FSA5k

How to play say ahh on piano tutorial

    ^_^

  • "Jeane, I'm not sure what happiness means."- "Jeane, the low life has lost it's appeal". What great lyrics to sing to the kids! ROFLMAO!

  • Kids listening to Morrissey...hahahaah.

  • "Oh look, its Sandie Shaw" - surely Vic Reeves was writing this material?

  • ...what was the point of this show?

  • There wasn't really, TV was VERY strange in Britain pre-90's.

  • One of the kids mothers upon the arrival of the child at home. "So how was school today?" Kid "I don't know, we took a bustrip to the park with a guy who had very paculliar hair, then upon our arival, another guy who was with us, who made the wanker sign at Timothy by the way, whipped out his guitar and Sandie Shaw sang a very depressing song for us!"

    LOL I love this band.

  • To think at that time Johnny Marr was creating himself as one of the most original and dynamic and damn right coolest guitar players in music history is almost unbelievable because he was should have been an awkward kid then and he was in his own way, along with being Johnny Marr, Fuckin' genius

  • and now he's in the fucking cribs :(

  • Love Johnny's little hat

  • Hilarious!

    Kid: Where are we going?

    Moz: We're all going mad!

Funniest thing I've ever seen. And Johnny just so happens to have his guitar when Sandie Shaw turns up! They should reform for just 1 day and do this again, they could come to my school...

Very envious of all who were there that day!!!

  • Moz clearly taking the piss at 1:06 when pointing out some flower to a kid that clearly wouldn't be interested.

  • @markie89 lol.. couldnt see that

  • @markie89 LOL

  • This is one of the best things on You Tube! It tickles me everytime! Brilliant on ever so many levels...

  • Ha ha. It's also funny seeing the little kids walk around to the lyrics of Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now.

  • i've watched this over and over again and i piss myself laugin ever time, brilliant!

  • LMAO! This is simply remarkable. kid: "where are we going?" Mozz: "We're all going mad" kid: "i thought we were going to kew gardens..." LOL Mozz; "..." *crazy facial expression* This just made my day so much better:)
  • did you notice that johnny marr gives that kid a wanker sign at the begining of the clip.....lol

  • lmfao, no i hadn't, thanks for pointing it out, that made the video all the better :D

  • He merely shakes his fist innocuously you pervert.

  • No it is def a wanker sign....LOL

  • @pookiespicklespie , i think you are wearing your nouties hat.. back then it was a comic boy school bully fist gesture.

  • @QLFILMS me too, made my day too instantly. love the moz

  • @QLFILMS *strolls into video* HEY LOOK, it's April!

As if you saw this video a year before me though, I've only just come across it ;D

  • Oh my word. This is insanely great and entertaining!

  • Moz's facial expression at 0:36 is the best facial expression I've ever seen.

0:47 - 'It's time the tale were told of how you took a child...

    and you made him old...!'

    Shame on you, Johnny!

  • what type of hat is that johnnys wearing?

  • What gesture is Marr doing in the kids face before his question about the name!?

  • the wanker sign

  • i doubt its manchester if their goin to kew gardens

  • its funny why you remember certain tv slots from childhood. how many of those kids became smiths/morrissey fans?

  • none. they're all dead.

  • this is bizarre but rely cool

  • Where are they in this vid? Is it in Manchester?

  • Kew Gardens, South West London.

  • yeey coolest vid eever

  • Ahh Morrissey and his Dark humor....=D

  • is rourke on the bus, i really think i see him a number of times in this vid.

  • that bird in red would get it. wel probly not now

  • hahahahahaha!

  • Wow. I wonder what these children are like today. Maybe some of the most depressed children in the world. I think Morrissey is cute with the children but it's the most awkward looking thing I have ever seen. In my life.

  • @PersephonesDance , why would they be depressed?

  • perhaps because they knew 'When Love Breaks Down' by Prefab Sprout was looming ahead? ;)

  • best thing iv seen all day!

  • I Loved how they just took the piss throught all of this!! lol!

  • what's hilarious is this is a horribly depressing song lmao

  • Moz's face when he comes through the door at 0:53 is priceless =)

  • OMG, this is the FUNNIEST thing Ive seen ever. hahaha, im laughing away to bed now. FOREVER MOZ!

  • How much of a tantrum did Morrissey throw after being asked to do this or is it more likely he had a sly chuckle to himself?

  • definitly a sly chuckle hahaha hes the best

  • I Love This!

  • Who do you reckon is more embarrassed, Sandie Shaw, Morrisey or the kids? At least Marr has got his guitar to hide behind... Actually, I'm embarrassed myself, just watching them all...

  • Well we had a great time making it....and the band and sandy shaw were very nice to us!

  • Did Marr do a wanker sign to that kid?

  • HAHA i think he did :')

  • sure looked like it!!! lol!!!

  • @kc744 no he didnt

  • Love Sandie Shaw's version of this song - someone here said, she was ugly! How could anyone who is not suffering from some sort of misogynistic mental deficiency say that?

Hasn't Morrissey grown into his age.

  • i love the fact that its so obvious its stage, the way moz laughs when he goes 'oh look, its sandie shaw'

  • Sandie shaw is so sexy.

  • HAHA. "We are all going mad"

  • That is wonderful. "Oh look, it's Sandie Shaw". Completely bonkers.

  • the lucky little bastads!!! I cant believe ive just watched that!!

  • CONTINUITY ERROR ALERT!!

At 2:08 theres a kid with a stripey jumper sitting between Johnny Marr and Sandie shaw.

However at 2:10 he has been moved to the back of the crowd where we see him standing.

But there he is again at 2:21 standing behind Sandie.

Yeat at 2:28 he has vanished again only to return back to where he was standing.

Was this a case of a crap director or was the kid a camera hogger?

(And is it just me or was he staring at sandie's arse at 2;52?)

  • Wow this brings back so many memories of my schooldays...i even got to play Jonny Marr's guitar...awesome!

  • what did you say! were you there like?!?!?!?!?! are you the kid in the stripy jumper ????

  • I went to primary school not far from there and somehow we got invited to be on the programme. I didnt have a clue who the smiths were at the time (was only 10!) we filmed all day from 8am till 5pm and the smiths were very nice to us all...they even made the production crew buy us all sweets and ice cream when we all complained about the rubbish packed lunch they tried to give us!

  • and i didnt actually appear on camera all day however the 'kid in the stripy jumper' is still a friend to this day :-)

when we got back to school the smiths gave us loads of badges and posters before disappearing in the back of a white transit van..very rock n roll!

  • i am absolutely awash in jealousy. cheers.

  • sorry...:-)

all of them were such a laugh and very normal not at all like the "stars" of today! I went to madstock loads of years later and was going to try and blag my way backstage to ask morrissey if he remembered charlies bus!!!

  • @HamburgerHill how was morrissey?

  • It's the look on the kids faces, they clearly have no idea who Morrissey, Marr or Sandy Shaw are.

  • lol at johnny at 00.47 funny stuff

  • Smiths, REUNITE for one night!

    Please

  • I love Moz' little smirk at 1:33 :)

  • He's so... cynical. I love him.

  • Man's greatest achievement, this video...

  • yeah, that's just the song to sing to a bunch of kiddies on a school trip...

  • Thanks for the post. It was very odd. But Morrissey's "I'm going mad" answer is priceless. I've seen a lot of early interviews with The Smiths on You Tube. Some of them make me wonder why Morrissey would agree to do them.

  • Man, I wish i was one of those kids... I wonder some of them turnt to Smiths fans...

  • I know, I wonder if those kids realized they were in the presence of a legend.

  • i'm in love with mozza :D

  • we all are.

  • The little girl's face at 1:59 is CLASSIC!

  • Good eye, I would never have caught that.LOL.

Man, Rourke and Joyce are never shown. Those guys were just like puppets.

  • @mozzyboy01 check again. rourke walks through the door at 0:55, and joyce is lying on the ground behind mozza when he says: 'look it's sandie shaw'. also both of them are standing on the bus at the start. they were there, just always in the shadows ; )

  • bizarre

  • this is so adorable. i love how johnny is linking arms with the kids & such.

  • errmm. Nice choic of song there Mr Director. Entirely appropriate.

    Oh, Hang on.

  • I'd love to see Moz do this kinda show nowadays :D

  • Seriously? I don't think he would. I'm surprised he did it back then.

  • this somehow reminded me of The Beatles' MAgical Mystery Tour...

  • "Where are we going?"

    "We're all going mad."

    I LOVE THAT LOOK!

  • How weird is that? Very random.

  • I thought we were going to Kew Gardens......HAHAHA!

  • ahh i miss the 80s

  • ok at about the 48th second johnny marr...

    hilarious!

a bit like an older brother...

  • kid:where are we going? morrissey:we're going mad. CLASSIC

  • What in the hell.

  • i'm not sure if it's coincidental or Morrissey's dark twisted humour but the place where they all sit down is right next to a notorious suicide spot in London!

  • lol why what park are they in?

  • this video is weird, when morrissey walked through the door at around 00:54 he looked at the cameraman as if he was embarassed to be with those kids lol and I think heaven knows I'm miserable now is a funny choice of a song for a kids show.

  • STrange.

  • Yep. that's how i found it

  • This was in Q Magazine. :) Deservingly!
