I'm thinking probably he left the field, went to his car, cranked it up, put it in drive, and left to review the video from a more secure location. Then he returned to reverse the call, apologize to everybody, and let the friendly amateur game resume.
I think it's funny as hell that these losers are screaming and cussing and don't know the rules of the game they're playing. I umpired for years and the lower the level of play (ie. bullshit rec leagues like this obviously is) the more crap umpires take over making the hard calls correctly. This would have been about a ten second argument at the collegiate level. As long as the umpire can explain legitimately the argument would end quickly.
This is why people should stop having kids. Maybe when our population can cease freaking out over men's soft ball league games, we'll be a fit country to re populate.

It was a good call because if u watch the replays you will see that both runners feet are in fair territory. If any of you know the rules of the game you have to give the defensive player opprotunity to make the throw to first. If the runner had been running on the other side of the line he is safe. Upon viewing the replay both batters should have been called out.

It looks like the ball hits the runner in the back or at least the runner prevents the 1st baseman from catching the ball cleanly. If in the umpires judgement that happens then the batter/runner is out (see MLB rule 6.05(k)) This also means that the ball is dead, which is why the plate official said that he called time (the correct term would be to say 'dead ball' but both stop the play at that time)
Since this is a judgement call there is no challenge (the same as with balls and strikes).

@HiImCaysE I am a former umpire, I am not sure if he called the ball foul or not. According to national league rules, the runner was not inside the first base running line and you have interference. It is a dead ball, the runner is out and all runners should return to the bags they occupied at the start of the play.

First off, In our league only the coach can appeal a call so as an ump I would first tell all other players to either get back to their position or back in the dugout and then discuss it with the coach. If they proceeded to stay on the field, I'd start the ejections. 2nd off, the umpire had a better line/view on the play than the cameraman. If he says he was inside fair territory, which would mean the player is automatically out, then his call stands. End of story. Bunch of big babies!

im starting to think that the umpire must have been slowly losing control of the game and eventually the team cracked. He did the right thing to walk out. i admire this fellow ump. however, i personally think he could have taken other steps to resolve this issue.
