Second, only about a half dozen of the newsletters (out of over a couple hundred) contained any sort of racist material, and when it's broadcast on the news, there is no clarification that only a very small percentage of the material contained racism.

Ron Paul did not write those extreme articles. They were written by James B. Powell. During the time span that those articles appeared Lew Rockwell, not Ron Paul, was editor of the newsletters. So Ron Paul's great sin was to publish a newsletter with his name on it without paying much attention what was appearing in it. That was a mistake, but which is worse -- mismanaging a newsletter or mismanaging the country, as the other guys all promise to do?

Starting in 08, TYT started using some of this and said it directly as 'Paul' wrote it.

Defending Ron Paul from claims that he is, as the article read, "a massive racist" is not the same as saying he can do no wrong. He can do wrong, and has. Ron Paul did not write those extreme articles. They were written by James B. Powell. During the time span that those articles appeared Lew Rockwell, not Ron Paul, was editor of the newsletters. So Ron Paul's great sin was to publish a newsletter with his name on it without paying much attention what was appearing in it. That was a mistake, but which is worse -- mismanaging a newsletter or mismanaging the country, as the other guys all promise to do?

That's legitimate to question him over, yet in late 07, early 08, James Kerchick comes out with an announcement of '100s of newsletters', filled with extreme Racist content and 'clipped' bylines. Starting in 08, TYT started using some of this and said it directly as 'Paul' wrote it.

Defending Ron Paul from claims that he is, as the article read, "a massive racist" is not the same as saying he can do no wrong. He can do wrong, and has. But it is a "massive lie" to call him a massive racist, a lie which goes against everything that Paul himself has ever said or advocated on the issue of racism. He was a full time congressman AND a full time doctor during that time, which is why he hired 6-8 ghostwriters to publish for him and didn't have time to read his team's work.

Personally, I'd not even use ghostwriters. If I didn't have time to write my own articles, then I'd decide I was too busy to publish articles under my name.

I also question why he initially defended the contents when running in Texas in the 90's.

@BigDamnHeroesSir all politicians must of necessity do things that they individually don't have time for. research on issues, voting, debating on the floor, campaigning, ads, all sorts of media, polling...all that, + being an OBGYN on the side? You can't do it. You need a staff. Same for the newsletter. It wasn't constantly cranking out racist material; there were only a handful of excerpts in years. That'd be easy to slip by a busy man. Mr. Paul trusted the wrong people, but he's not a racist.
