  • this movie is an inaccurate description of the war, the military, and soldiers. Every soldier signs the contract that says that no matter how long you enlist for, you still have an 8 year obligation, and the army can extend your enlistment if they need to. everybody knows this before they sign. I did before I signed. If you are not comfortable with that, then dont sign. This movie is so inaccurate on so many levels about what things are really like. Thats what happens when MTV makes these movies

  • That's a pretty idiotic argument to make. Inactive ready reserve (IRR) is only used during national emergencies, as stated in the contract. I do not consider mismanaging a war follow suit under this. However, I do agree with you that this movie is bullshit. Instead of trying to find any one thing to discredit this movie upon maybe you should have made a more logical point that no soldier would have been stop lossed within one week after returning from war, as the movie depicts.

  • I think you misunderstood my argument. The point I was trying to make was that every soldier knows the possibility of stop-loss, and signs anyway. When I signed everybody from up and down left and right told me about IRR, actual enlistment, and stop-loss. The movie gave the impression that this was something new to soldiers, illigal, and not in the contract...the reality is if you are stop-lossed, you know months in advance.

  • VERY TRUE.

  • he cheated on reese witherspoon?

    omgahhhh

  • this movie is a really great movie

  • The end of the film was so moving.

  • I would REFUSE an order to return. Tell that CO where to go. Then go underground. I will not be screwed over by the pricks in office.

  • why in the hell would you sign up in the first place if you didn't plan on going to war? You should actually read the contract you're signing before u sign it.

  • I don't know why this movie did so bad, I thought it was pretty good, maybe the plot could have been a little better but I'm not complaining. I guess overall people don't like seeing war movies about Iraq at this time, no one seems to take an interest in things that actually matter.

  • I agree. American citizenry are not into "thinking." The latest cell phone or friend outing is much more interesting and important the mainstream. We're a nation of fat-ass gobbling consumers.

  • I thought the actors in the movie did a great job of portraying a soldier coming home. It's not different than what happened during Vietnam except that they volunteered to join. Either way, it doesn't matter our soldiers are suffering and they need to make more anti-war movies and songs to stop this war!

  • I'm getting ready for my 2nd deployment with the Army. I love how a dude cruising around sunset blvd doing coke and fucking models all day gets to represent me on the big screen.

I love how this movie absolutely bombed in the box office (25 million budget, only grossed 11 million since march).

  • ROFLs. Best comment on YouTube.

  • the difference is that he is an actor and you are a soldier.

  • Add cheating on his wife to that list too!

    Best comment on YouTube...I agree.

  • @dreamissbehaved Whom did he cheat with?

  • @Redcarpet01 he cheated on Reese with his costar Abbie Cornish.

  • This movie isn't just about policies, it's about the effect it has on the other people in his life. I served my country proudly and defended the constitution. The war is bull****

  • nikki501 shut up please your retarted

  • hahahaa well lets see being as though my brother, uncle and 2 cousins are in the military im pretty sure im educated...these guys in the movie were being shipped A MONTH! after not a week, so theres fault one...two...no one ever said you can get stop lossed twice, and 3 the movie shows him doing his 8 years, he's done his time...thats the movie, i'm right, people need to get educated.

  • does anyone have a clip of this movie with steven strait's part?

he's supposed to be michael colson

  • When you VOLUNTEER, your term is usually 8 years. Four years active and four years inactive. I am inactive now after four years active and a vet of Iraq.

I think this movie may be a bit misleading.

  • You are right. When you first sign the dotted line they tell you its for 8 yrs. You contract is for 2 then IRR for 6, 3 then IRR for 3, they can call you anytime. It's called 10 minutes of reading to cut out a life time of bullshit. Read what you sign then fuss about it. Once you join AD you have 8 yrs.

  • moveondotorgg are you serious! have you no idea what stop loss and the military contracts? get educated then see the movie, soldiers are getting stop lossed and its not suppose to happen, who cares if it didnt make the top 10, its an awesome, go get educated asshole

  • Might want to get educated yourself. The movie portrayed the Stop Loss process incorrectly. Once you are finished with outprocessing you cannot be stop lossed. No less than 90 days prior to deployment can one be stoplossed for the fact their ETS date gets passed during deployment. Once home from their tour, they have 90 days till they can ETS.. and no you cant be stoplossed a 2nd time. but if you have leave available you can take terminal leave and leave before that 90 day mark.

  • also, if you are staying in the same unit you will not deploy a week later. but other than them screwing up the stop loss process it was an overall good movie

  • I agree!

  • watch?v=xk59ZcYUW6Y

  • When I ETS'd, during my out processing, I was told that even though I served 6yrs, I would be inactive for 2 and sure enough I was on the recall list to served Desert Storm. I was in college and was pulled and had 48 hrs to report to Virginia. I too knew upon signing about the recall.., just never expected it to be enforced.

  • What zeroDahero said.

If your unit is locked down, you know it before you go to out-process. If you are ETSing and your unit is doing the stop-loss thing, then you should expect to serve more time on active-duty. This movie seems a farce.

  • MTV did the film. And they tend to leave things out that aren't in line with what they think. What blows regardless - and you sound like you know a helluva lot better than me - is not letting our soldiers fight full out.

  • You do know before you go to out-process...but this is a movie. It's all about the concept of stop loss, not how realistic it is how they are told. Parts of hte movie were not entirely correct but I think they did a really good job getting the general idea right.

No movie is perfect or 100% accurate. This movie does a pretty good job with the soldiers emotions coming home though.

    Great movie

  • It burns me how it is that the media twists the truth. The front page of the enlistment contract states the total obligation, which most times is 8 years. Most times is 4 to be served active and 4 to be basically on standby. Its not governement tricks, its right on black and while and we all signed the dotted line. Boohoo, cry me a river. Read your damned contract before you sign. Does that movie mention that part of the contract, which as I said, is right on the front page?

  • id fuck that guy up the butt

  • wtf?

  • Me too!

  • ola sempre que vejo um jove uniformisado sinto saudade da minha trapa quando servi pelo o meu pais ai as lagrimas vem a core pelos os meus olhos a verdade e que amo o meu pais e amo o exercito na qual fui mebro por alguns anos

  • Interesting.

  • Not even going to say how I feel.
