Verse 1 - No more beautiful land in this time, as here that is ours so broad and wide, where we find ourselves under the Linden tree in the evening, where we find ourselves under the Linden tree in the evening.
Verse 2 - We have sat here so many times in a happy circle singing; the songs ring out in the oak forests.
Yes Germany and Austria are two beautiful countries and deserve to sing this song in support for their countries.I'm happy that I have bits of German heritage myself:)
@jaxxx1975 that's only half true. They considered themselves (and we still do nowadays) as part of the German culture group, but not of the German nation.
@Mangalitza72 Yes but Vienna was the capital of the Holly Roman Empire of German Nations! Austria is only a own contry becouse Prussia and Austria want lead the new German Empire 1871. And Austria don´t want a prussian emperor. Thats the fact. 1840, the Austrians stood for a democratic Greater Germany, in Vienna at barricades. The most famous German Democrat was shot by Austrian troops. Robert Blum, google him.
@jaxxx1975 Austria was an own state long before "Germany" as a state even existed. What we today perceive as Germany has long been a loose Federation of states with their own currency, law, legislation. And save for WW2 Austria never was part of the country Germany.
I understand what you mean, but with the same arguments you could also call the Netherlands or Swiss German countries. Or Belgium, which was reigned by the Habsburgs for a long time. Or Mexico, or ...
@Mangalitza72 Thats not truth! Germany is exists since 1871. Before it was, you say it, in a German Confederation. The Capital was Frankfurt, because its in the middle of Prussia and Österreich! In the Holy Roman Empire was the austrians for a long time the leader of HRR. But you think the same relations have germany with Mexico and the swiss? Ok you don´t want to be a part of germany, but germans and austrians are brothers. Whether you want it or not.
@jaxxx1975 all men all over the world are brothers. Some are closer than others. I do not deny my German cultural heritage, but living near Vienna, my culture simply doesn't only consist of my German roots, but also of Bohemian, Hungarian, Jewish, Croatian, Polish, Italian, even French and Spanish ingredients. People from the western parts of Hungary or Slovakia are closer to my way of thinking, my daily problems or my sense of humor than e.g. citizens of Hamburgia or Cologne.
@Mangalitza72 We can finish our gesprech. It was nice talking with you and discuss. Thank you! But you have to but the Saxons and Bavarians feel connected. In the war against Prussia, were closely allied with you. In particular, the Bavarians but even the same or a very similar culture as you. I interesiere only way for it because my parents were from Germany.
@jaxxx1975 sure, it was nice talking to you. An Austrian comedian once said ironically that Austrians and Germans are seperated by sharing the same language.
But this tribal thinking is obsolete in our modern Europe anyway. I enjoy a good discussion with people no matter where they are from or where their parents have come from.
@MuenchnerGsindl09 In history, sure. After 40 years dictatorship, GDR not more ok. But Austria, Bavaria and Saxony fight together against prussia. It was the Saxons who suffer the most. For Prussia, cut off the today Sachsen Anhalt of Kingdom Saxony. Thats the point, but bavaria was ever somthing special. Do you want a own country? Only because you are a proud bavarien.
jaxxx1975 is right. Bavaria and Saxony do have a lot in commun. Both fought Prussia - Saxony more than Bavaria - and both became kingdoms through "collaboration" with Napoleon!
Personally I'm from Bavaria (Upper Palatinate) and I studied in Saxony (Leipzig).
Perhaps you should also one day go and vistit the beautiful cities and regions in Saxony. It might help abolishing prejudices!
@Mangalitza72 It annoys me that the Austrians always beguile the differences there are between Bavaria and citizens. Or just us Alsace and Saxony. Anyway, I'm French but I see myself as a German! Because I live in Alsace. Anyway, I'm not a Nazi. But you soltet in the revolution of 1848 are.
The choir come from Vienna/Austria, the boys comes from Austria but also other countries! This TV-shows are often playback cause the sound is not ok in this studios!
I love this song. It really should be a second anthem for Germany. What a lovely country it is!! I went to Kiel some years ago and loved every minute there. Danke Kiel!!
Welche Eliten?! Hoffnung auf was?
@pwthcim@orion8352 I try a translation like our german outministry westerwave would do: No nicer land in our time/As our wide and broad/Where we us find/Well under limes/To evening time...
@pwthcim "there is no country, more beautiful, than this one, this time, where we find ourselves under linden at the evening. we were sitting there, having a nice time and we were singing the songs down by the heaths so that we can meet, a hundred times more, god may give us god may lead us hes got the grace so brotherst, good night god in heaven is watching and guarding ---> a very comfortless translation, excuse me, its just a rough standing :) greetings!
It was a stunning moment !

3) That we, here in this valley of ours still meet so many hundreds of times, God may give us this, God may change our destiny, he has the mercy.
4) Now, brothers, good night, God in the high sky watches over us; in his goodness he is concerned protecting us.

Have have already heard something about the "GERMAN CONFEDERATION"
(1815 - 1866), presided by AUSTRIA and PRUSSIA?
What do you think about Vorarlbergers preferring Switzerland to East-Austria? Or Tirolers preferring South Bavaria to Vienna?3
Mozart for example wrote once a letter to his father and he named Germany
"his beloved fatherland"!

@pwthcimThere's no country more beautyful anywhere in this time than ours, where we meet ourselves under lime wood at evening time.
There we where sitting some ours in a joyful round and sang and the songs resounded in forests of oak.
God may give we'll meet here in this valley so many hundred times, he may give and direct it, he's got the grace.
Now Brothers, good night. The Lord in the heights of Heaven is guarding. In his kindness he's concerned to protect us.

maestrovoci 4 years ago 2
I would guess this was in '94 or around there. Didn't they sound good then?
prairie510 4 years ago
Oh yes! The latest, greatest choir from Vienna was the Marschik choir of 1998, with outstanding soloists, among them Max Emmanuel Cencic.
maestrovoci 4 years ago
Your last comment has confused me. If they did sound good at the time why would the boys here not be the ones heard singing?
prairie510 4 years ago
That is a question for the directors at that time, and since I don't have that job description, I am afraid I cannot answer your good question. I have reason to believe they cannot answer either. So that's the enigma.
maestrovoci 4 years ago
Another way you should be able to tell lip synch from the real thing is the level of involvement. Do these boys really look to you like they are singing? Add to that, the recording to which they are lip synching has an echo. If you have ever been in a recording studio, they are always very "dry" or dead acoustically.
maestrovoci 4 years ago
But must the recording be from the '60s? It doesn't make any sense to me that a choir should sound good but not make and use their own recording.
prairie510 4 years ago
I guess you will just have to let it go at that. Whether it makes sense or not overlooks local politics at Augarten, and with that hint, I'm done too.
