Nope. You don't have to have a degree to do science. I happen to have one in chemistry, but that doesn't stop me from tinkering in microbiology, engineering, physics, etc.

Just consider that people can learn on their own. One of the best things I ever taught myself was how to teach myself, and I learned that prior to college.

I learned microbiology by practicing it, I've never had a course in it, and it's an entirely different science than chemistry. I'm not downplaying the value of a degree, but any motivated person can be a scientist, many of the world's greatest scientists never took a college course: daVinci, Geber, Copernicus, etc.

i totally agree with you that you can learn on your own. but science has changed alot since the 16th century. and to hold any credibility in the scientific community these days u better hold a degree or three.

No doubt about that, but that doesn't mean that you can't learn science without an expensive degree. After obtaining an expensive degree, I know better than many that you can learn science and practice it without said degree.

But then again, I'm a real scientist and don't limit myself or others with degrees, initials after the name or pedigree. We are all capable of being scientists.

Learn the scientific method. It's invaluable.
