You alter the cutting height on the Qualcast by the dial on the side of the mower, the two screws alter the height between the blade and the bottom blade. The blade looks very blunt too, get it sharpened.

Matt, the blade on your Flymo has been fitted upside down. The blade tips should curve downwards towards the grass. You have not actually blutened the blade because you have been cutting your grass with the back of the blade due to incorrect fitting. This is the reason why the grass has been "pulled at by the roots". Simply fit your blade correctly and your lawn will look a lot better, a lot sooner. Warm Regards, Mower Oracle.
