  • funkl oh yeah!

  • la grande classe

  • This fantastic album got lots of play on WHUR-FM in DC when I was a Howard U. student in the early-mid 70's. My home town Philly was hip to Maxayn but I don't think WDAS-FM played much of Maxayn's stuff. She is doing mostly background singing now. I think she is a good candidate for the TV series Unsung. I posted my favorite song "Travelin" from her second album on here. She wrote it with her ex Andre Lewis.

  • wow.... this is some super LSD fueled phonque! pretty dam incredible... even the murky production adds a weird kinda murky acid grime to it, fantastic :)

  • oh yes this is classic! getting out the bell bottoms. thanks!!!

  • Nice to hear after all these years !

  • Thanks for the jam. I still love this band. I was in Temple in 74. They did rock this jam in Philly but WHUR turned me on to Maxayn. They used to play the first album. I was so disappointed when they did not show up at the DUFF Festival in RFK Stadium.

  • Skeet-Listening to this takes be back I feel like hitting a joint :)

  • Andre Lewis said that the Mandre collection will be reissued by Rush Hour Records in March. He did not mention Maxyan. He is on You Tube. Maxyan is on Face Book. This is great.

  • when will these be finally released on CD

  • Mumia! Sly, Mandrill, Osibisa, Yellow Sunshine, Jessica Cleave, Lonnie Liston Smith, Weather Report, Airto & Flora Purim, Stanley Clarke, LaBelle wear something silver, Zulema, Betty Davis, Miles Davis, Buddy Miles, Flack's Suzanner, Zounds, Astrological commentary, Bohannon, Astral traveling, WKDU (the original point) & light fixtures w/ christmas lights inside blinking with the stereo! Can we please get a podcast? These are our real OLDIES that need broadcasting. Kujichagulia!

  • you are so RIGHT!!!!!

  • @MamaAsantewaaRenenut I HEAR YOU, SAW A LOT OF THOSE ACTS IN 73-74 AT THE SPECTRUM AND CIVIC CENTER. $4.85 IN ADVANCE, $5.50 AT THE DOOR

  • I first heard Maxayn's Bail Out in D.C. in '74. I bought the album 3 times!!! Each time it was borrowed and never returned! You three folks know who you are. You still got my vinyl?

  • I don't understand why Maxayn doesn't release her stuff for download on iTunes or Amazon. Same with Edwin Birdsong...

  • This song was sampled in RJD2's Someone's Second Kiss, great tracks!

  • Come back Maxayn! Come back Mandre! We need you!

  • damn....Jerry Wells!!! this is a honor, really....man i stayed up late listenin to you, man.....with the radio under the covers....you brought new music in my life when friends were just listening to AM.

its a honor....yea..DAS-FM used to play Hendrix, followed by James Brown, followed by Pharoah Sanders....then some spiritual stuff by a person called "bawa muhajadin" or something.....then a motown song...lolol..it was a healthy eclectic mix

Jerry, yall were my only friends...thank you.

  • Hey man, you give me too much credit! It was a dream come true to work at 'DAS FM. I got started along with Perri Johnson, Primus and Tony Brown at WRTI at Temple. The artists reflected the new conciousness taking hold in the community. It's very gratifying to hear from someone who enjoyed what we were doing. Yes, it was eclectic, JUST LIKE WE ALL WERE. We tried to reflect the audience that was listening to us. Thank you - it was a privelege and an honor to be there! Jerry Wells

  • PHILLY STAND UP!

  • Jerry Wells formerly of WDAS FM in 'da house! LOVED MAXAYN and MANDRE! Music was just better then!

  • I would love to buy this album brings back great memories.

  • Undoubtedly pure 100%. funk. Check her version with the great Andre Lewis's version of Buddy Miles' Life Is What You Make It. Glad I have the original LP. A Funk classic. What makes you ask the question where did we fall off? Is any group today funky? Hell to the Nah!

  • I have this lp-bought it in manchester England so i guess Maxayn is international!

  • Did they only play maxayn in Philly or what? I am from Philly and love this album. I still play it today. I love cried my last tear. I miss Philly, but those winters are ass kicking. Living in Cali now , but will always will be a Phiily Boi!!!!

  • Maxayn was real big in D.C. too. Bail & Cried My Last Tear were big hits for her in '74 @ our "Black Lite" parties. The best of times!

  • Me too... WDAS played Maxayn a lot.. I had all of their albums back then. Would like a CD

Do you have Why don't you check out your mind???? I always thought the group was way ahead of their time.. Good Work!

  • I'm at work and losing my mind - I'm finally hearing Maxayn after all these years-the closest you could get to it for years was a Mandre song that Tony Brown used as a closing theme on 105.3 in Philly. Thank you for the memories.
