This station must have survived real well in Wisconsin's capitol city, especially during the early years when you couldn't receive UHF channels on your TVs unless you you bought a UHF converter. Now many of us will have to buy DTV converters or else our analog sets will recive just snow!
WKOW had the advantage because it was the first station to sign-on in Madison, and its primary affilation when it first on the air was CBS. It became ABC in '56, after WISC went on the air.
Very cool! I was born in Madison in 1963 so a lot of this is before my time...but I remember John Schermerhorn and Hult Chevrolet...and very cool to see a very young Marshall Shapiro doing the sports report about Warren Spahn. I had a cousin who was a reporter for WKOW in the late 70s who showed me the news set and introduced me to Shapiro. Great memories!
I want more Marshall the Marshal!!!!
