@skipplet those helmets have lots of wires and straps, so its a bit harder to to put on then gloves, and doing a preflight on a fighter jet is fairly hard to do with gloves on, a helmet however dosent make it very hard
Not necessiarily. The highest goal in WVR BFM is to arrive at 'dead six,' which is a LOW aspect angle. Based on the shots i'm seeing, it looks like he's trying to get a guns picture in repeated high-aspect passes.
It's the Snap Shot Drill, just a warm up at the beginning of the BFM hops. But generally you are maneuvering for a guns kill off of a neutral abeam or butterfly set, which starts high-aspect until you work the angles off.

It's BFM, the goal is to be high aspect.
