  • is this genuine ? it's got james' signature wananana in it

  • damn i could sing this in a karaoke

  • This is how it sounded every time I tried to play these songs in my room, minus the age-induced phaser effect...wa nananana!!

  • the technicality of this song blows my mind. it was way ahead of its time

  • ...fucking brutal!

  • kill em nan

    Nan the table

    master of nan

    And nana for all

    the nana album

    Nana

    re-nana

    St. Nana

    Nana Magnetic

  • @F3lipetrucci Dont forget Beyond Magnana

  • Hey every one! My password for youtube is Metallica!!!!

  • Damn near sounds like Lars' crash is flanged. I thought it was on one of the guitars but right toward the end it seemed to coincide with a lot of his crash hits.

  • Lol you can hear lars good here.

  • Usually he does Wananana the whole song.

  • ... And Nana For All, definitely their most underrated album.

  • woww...... great demo, nice to hear jammin demo in early stage

  • Kirk's solo in this makes me laugh :D

  • @MetalOnPiano actually pretty much every demo you will here pre-load, all of the bass and guitars are done by james. james and lars would record all their demos and then bring them to the studio where the other members would thresh them out

  • lol james's voice sounds funny

its like a mix of his master's voice with the justice's one

  • @ 3:46 - the final album version is much better than this...

  • @loftiemax better than what he plays live

  • Did they record this in a bathroom?

  • @frogmanh

Sounds too dry for that actually.

It's probably in Lars' basement if they already did that back then.

They usually did the demos there as far as I know.

  • @frogmanh Nope, a closet.

  • @frogmanh basement bathroom

  • @frogmanh ou yeah i can listen a shower to;)

  • @frogmanh Thats just the tape being worn out.

  • Phaser much at the beginning?

  • @HandofMisery just the good quality of demo recording ;PxD

  • shit we can actually hear jason's bass in this song, amazing

  • @KonigNick

    If it IS Jason's bass...

Usually only James and Lars recorded Demos together.

So pretty much everything was played by James if it came to guitars.

I also really like the "sound" of the Demo of 'One'.

Which is similar sounding to this one, but just the way it's played and all.

It has a very thick guitar-sound in a way, warmer than the "Justice"-album.

But in essence it's just very punchy guitars and drums and no bass.

Not to say you don't hear bass here, but on the other recordings.

  • It's funny how much James' voice changed from this to the actual album. It got a little bit deeper/growlier

  • @SchizophobicBand its the same for all demos. listen to nltl and then listen to kea

  • @SchizophobicBand he hit man-puberty because he also grew a mustache

  • And you can clearly hear bass <3

  • why in the hell James is singing: NANA NANA NA!

  • @asdbasslinepukkiasd Probably because he hadn't got written this part of lyrics yet in that time ;)

  • @pilif25 lol :D

  • @pilif25 exactly

  • BTW if anyone cares I told this "bassbait" guy exactly where I am sitting everyday all day and asked him to call me an asshole to my face. I gave him my exact physical location. He didn't respond.

  • @avidmoviefan That's actually not true. You're making crap up. Why does this even matter anyway? This has nothing to do with an argument. You're just trying to start a fight. Fights and arguments are different things. You want me to go over to wherever you are and confront you, what's wrong with you? You're saying that you can't use words, so you'd rather me go over to you so you can pull a gun on me or something? I'm telling you, you need help. Either argue or shut up, because you're insane.

  • @Bassbait You sent me a private message calling me an asshole. I told you to fucking say it to my face and then told exactly what city and what store I am sitting in all day and to come say it to my face. I do not need a gun. The way you are acting I can tell you are some fat loser who has never been in a fight in his life. I just publically called you out bitch. No weapons, just come say your bullshit to me, right to my face. And I'll sing Justin Beiber while I fuck you up.

  • @avidmoviefan Ha, you make me laugh. However, you've screwed up big time. I never use language such as that in anything online or offline. I consider profane language to be absurd. You can go look back at any of my comments and you will notice an utter lack of words such as that. I never sent you a private message, I never called you that word, nor will I, because I'm above that idiot language. I prefer to argue without "calling people out". This isn't a fight, you aren't even important to me.

  • Metallica - Blackened Phaser version :p

  • terrible audio quality

  • @Bassbait Lol. Not a ripoff. Sorry bro. umad now?

  • Sounds like there using Line 6 amps lol

  • nana nana YEAH!!

  • haha seriously!!! i like how people get on you tube to watch or listen to metallicas songs and just try to talk shit. lol if u dont like them dont listen or watch anything about metallica! just because metallica is the GREATES BAND ON THE PLANET people have to hate. but they shut people up by making more and more epic songs

  • the intro of this song was like: fuck off all you motherfuckeeers!!!

  • its the tape not a phaser im pretty sure lars isnt set up through a phaser

  • The solo here makes me laugh for some reason.

  • I hear with my little ear, probably one of there Phase 100s

  • imagine fucking writing something like this? what the fuck

  • why isnt there un released songs that they recorded as demos

  • the solo on this demo is pretty mediocre. must have been improvised

  • hahahah the " nanana" - s are soo fucking funny hahahaha :D

  • solo sounds .... almost better!!?!?!??!

  • fucking awesome to hear this

  • To begin whipping dance of the dead! Wana wana na!

  • @PlasticGuitarFTW

    Remember the demo of "Roam"?

    "Wananaananaaanaanayyy wananaaananaananahay! Waanaananana!"

  • Fire! to begin whipping dance of the dead! NANA NANA NOOOO!! To begin whipping dance of the dead!! Color our world blackened! BLACKENED!!

  • I was in highschool when this album came out., perfect time. Too bad half you bitches were born too late haha. Still listen everyday.

  • @dethmag yea right and i was born in ming dynasty

  • YOU guys just complaining too much about how thrash Metallica relly is!!!!1

For me!! THey made the best songs in the world, they were just like us, iin the early days!!!

They knew what they did, would be great!!!!

    1.Kill'em all

    2.Ride the lightning

    3.Master of Puppets

    4....AJFA!!!

    5.Black Album

top 5 arguments!!!! What else can u say??? RIHANNA???

  • @kurdengeier lol rihanna is way better than that 5 fucking shit albums

  • @JaviVS TROLL.

  • @thejoshbrown95 TROLL IN THE DUNGEON!!!!

  • @KillJoy353 Thought you ought to know. lol

  • @JaviVS her voice is annoying, just like u!

  • @JaviVS

If you dont like these albums..... Why the fuck are you here.....

  • even the demo is fuckin awesome

  • For all you "know it all". This was Jason Newsteds first full contribution to metallica.

He wrote the riffs while james wrote the guitar and lyrics.. Jason sure was a genious

  • @samborna1002 jason wrote the "riffs" while james wrote the "guittar" ??? im confused, sounds the same ... what do you mean?

  • @alejoytb Well, sorry if i formed my words wrong. James based the guitar lines on the bass. Know what i mean? Jason wrote the bassline for this song and the rest went from there

  • @samborna1002 You are correct sir! and yes your words are formed wrong. Mexican?

  • @dethmag Nope

  • I actually don't really like Old Metallica because even though it's good music, it's not really "Thrash Metal", they only have a few actually fast songs, but this is one of them, and I like this song. However, they tend to rip other bands off (One = Darkness Descends). I just think that they should have never gotten popular. Then Cliff might not have died, their music might have been better, and they would never become the sell outs that they are today. Total bummer.

  • @Bassbait Piss off dude !

  • @Bassbait A string of sixtuplets on the bass drum should not be considered a rip off.

  • @Majestic12200 It's the same rhythm, the same notation. The only difference is that the bass and drums are playing while the guitar does an open note, which is significantly enough to be a rip off. Most of their riffs are stolen from something else and slightly changed so that they can't be considered rip offs. Avenged Sevenfold did the same thing with "Unholy Confessions", which sounds like a riff from Death's "Spirit Crusher".

  • @Bassbait You're right. I gave Darkness Descends another spin and the similarity is unlikely to be coincidence.

  • @Bassbait How can old Metallica not be thrash metal, when they are generally regarded as one of the founders of the genre?

  • @czt1dave Well, "characterized by its fast tempo and aggression"

I compare the aggression and tempos of Slayer and fast bands. Metallica is quite tame (look at Fade to Black), and they aren't very fast. They lack consistency. If Metallica is Thrash metal, so is Black Sabbath, simply because they made ONE thrash song, as far as I'm concerned. Metallica lacks thrash metal songs on every album of the first four. Blackened is thrash metal, but is Master of Puppets? No. It's heavy metal.

  • @Bassbait Actually every album they've made has had at least one thrash metal song. Kill em all- Metal militia, hit the lights, Motorbreath, Jump in the fire, Whiplash, NO remorse and phantom lord. Ride the lightning- Fight fire with fire, Ride the lightning (some part of the song). - Master- Battery, Disposable Heroes, Damage Inc., -And Justice- Blackened, Dyers Eve, One. So there's plenty of songs that make them Thrash Metal. And the ORIGINATORS of thrash metal.

  • @Solis2213 First of all: Only ones you mentioned (I'm ignoring the first album, haven't heard it in a while) that are thrash are Fight Fire with Fire, Battery, Damage Inc, Blackened, and Dyer's Eve. If you look at just how "fast" One is, you'll realize that it's a SLOW song. It's Iron Maiden speed. Also, originators? No. Exodus was earlier, as was Venom, and Blind Illusion. Metallica was just the band to make it popular (which ruined many good bands. Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax.)

  • @Bassbait Well even if they do have some thrash metal songs that includes them in the thrash metal genre. Sure they may not be the fastest like slayer or sodom, but the way they make songs not only with speed but with energy and tenacity makes them what they are. Originators? Yes. And yes I know those bands were around but obviously they didn't do a good job since no one gave a flying fuck about them, that is until metallica made thrash jump into the scene and helped originate the genre.

  • @Bassbait dude there's plenty of songs metallica has that are thrash stop trying to argue the obvious it's retarded. I like slayer but you act like they play 100 miles per hour all the time and they don't...south of heaven, mandatory suicide, seasons in the abyss, and a lot more are very average in terms of speed...all great songs but the subject here is SPEED...master of puppets is fast in most of it, disposable heroes, damage inc, trapped under ice, fight fire w fire, metal militia, etc..

  • @czt1dave because my friend, when you're at the top you have a of haters...and metallica are about as far up the trash totem pole as you cna get so of course they're going to have a shitload of haters...as you see on these comments you are currently reading. Metallica was thrash on their first 4 albums, even had a couple thrashy songs on the black album contrary to popular believe (holier than thou, through the never...) and in death magnetic they've went back to their routes, they are thrash

  • @Bassbait it's obvious you're a metallica hater, so don't listen to the damn music dude, simple as that. I don't like Destiny's Child, that's why I'm not on youtube listening to them, let alone making comments about how they suck. they got poopular because they were bad ass and if you think about it...until the 4th album they didn't even have a video and for them to be that popular with long songs in the video crazy 80s is a hell of an acheivment, all I agree with u is I wish cliff was here...

  • @midnight347 I do like Metallica's music, but I don't like the band. Music is more important than the band. I like the first four albums, although I dislike Master of Puppets. I can't stand the band members, they are simply annoying people, and they rip bands off too much. I can't stand the personalities of the people, and the decisions they make, but the four albums are good. Everything after is so bad, it's inexcusable. I dislike Metallica overall, not hate.

  • @Bassbait When the fuck did they rip off of other songs

  • @frankieanime Almost every single song is a rip off. For example, Enter Sandman, One, Welcome Home, The Day That Never Comes, My Apocalypse, The Unforgiven II, are all ripped off. There's more, but that's just for starters.

  • @Bassbait Ok name the songs that they arer ripped off from.

  • @frankieanime The website "cracked" talks about most of them. I can't give you a link because youtube is a jerk, but if you look up on cracked (dot com) "The 5 Most Famous Musicians Who Are Thieving Bastards", Metallica is on the list for most of those songs. I know for sure that "One" is a rip off of "Darkness Descends" by Dark Angel, released two years prior. Trust me, Metallica ARE thieving bastards.

  • @Bassbait Yes it's not like theres millions of metal songs that sound alike

  • @maniac923 There's a difference between "sound alike" and "deliberate rip off", and Metallica has even stated that some of their songs were DELIBERATELY RIPPED OFF. So sorry, you can't defend them, they ARE thieving bastards. Just like Led Zeppelin.

  • @Bassbait I'd love to see/hear one of those interviews.

  • @Bassbait how is it a rip off? they sound nothing alike

  • @Bassbait so your telling me that one part of a song is a rip off of another song. So did Trivium rip off "Darkness Descends" with "Gunshot To The Head of Trepidation" when Travis used the sextuplet bass drum pattern in his drum track for the song? Just because one band decides to use a PART of another song it's a rip off?

  • @HeartlessNobody1314 YES! That's precisely known as PLAGIARISM! Metallica have STOLEN material that was copyrighted by other bands. When it's the same basic rhythmic and melodic structure, it's plagiarism. Therefore, ripping off.

  • @Bassbait Well I don't you making money by playing music. So shut the fuck up.

  • @MrCherryKush Would you mind if I was playing YOUR songs, and re-naming them, giving them different lyrics, and claiming that I wrote them? Well guess what, a lot of bands DO. Again, plagiarism. It's the musical equivalent of identity theft. You don't want someone stealing your money, you wouldn't want someone stealing your riff. Metallica even got pissed off at people for stealing their music, even though they are the ones stealing! Hypocrites and thieves.

  • @Bassbait Oh my God. They took a chord progression.... Its the end of the world... I guess If they used an E powerchord they should sue themselves.... You make No sense.

  • @MrCherryKush Not a chord progression. Multiple exact riffs! You make no sense, good sir, because you haven't heard a word I've said. Not a chord PROGRESSION, but EVERY SINGLE NOTE IN THE RIFFS. Elaborate riffs too, not simple riffs that anybody could have written. And they ADMIT to stealing riffs. But they don't plan on doing anything about it, except for profiting off of the stolen money they made, and then suing you for doing anything about it.

  • Blocked for being a worthless troll.

  • @MrCherryKush Really? A troll? Stop being ridiculous. I'm just stating the obvious. If anything, Metallica are trolls who get away with it because of idiots like you!

  • @Bassbait Name the riffs, the exact riffs, you can't

  • @Bassbait I wouldn't care. I f you need my riffs to get famous then fine.. I can always write more. Get over it.

  • @avidmoviefan If you write more, you won't get famous. That's what happened to Exodus. 30 years later, they're still an underground band, and even though they wrote SUPERIOR riffs to Metallica in every way, they never got recognition. Also, I can name the exact riffs, I just don't need to, because the riffs themselves are so obvious. There are videos dedicated to it, but you are too lazy to look it up, and you're an idiot fanboy anyway, so you want "proof", which you'll dismiss regardless.

  • @Bassbait "fanboy?" I went to Berklee College of Music. I am hardly a fanboy and I am 1000 times the musician you will ever be. Kirk Hammet FORMED AND NAMED EXODUS. All I see is you arguing with me and 20 other people right now about something you know nothing about. The only idiot fanboy in the room is you. period. The rest of us know how fucking dumb you are

  • @avidmoviefan Bragging about Berklee doesn't mean anything in application. You know who didn't go to Berklee? Metallica. Exodus. Death, Atheist. Many great bands never went to Berklee, and many of those bands are a BILLION times the musician you will ever be, and so you can't say that you're 1000 times the musician because online, it doesn't matter who you are, you'd better release a masterpiece in order to prove your point, because you aren't important.

  • @Bassbait Exodus, Death, and Athiest are all horrible bands. Their record sales reflect that fact. Go ahead Bassbait, write a song and I will write one and we will post them and see who gets the most votes. It won't be you.

  • @avidmoviefan Good point, I guess you're right. Popularity IS what makes a band good. For instance, Justin Bieber is way more popular than Metallica...

oh wait, but Bieber sucks. You see? It turns out that there's no relation between record sales and talent. Atheist is not a horrible band, in fact, in every aspect they are completely superior to Metallica, including bass. So there's that. You obviously have no clue what you're talking about.

  • @avidmoviefan What is, important, however, is that Kirk only wrote about 5 songs in total, most of which Exodus ditched for better music. Kirk had nothing to do with Bonded By Blood, as opposed to Exodus's influence on Metallica, which was far greater, Metallica stealing multiple riffs from the 5 songs that Kirk helped write (and I say helped because he didn't completely write the 5 songs. In fact, he probably hasn't completely written a total of 5 songs).

  • @Bassbait I was voted best guitaist in Ohio in 1998 by Guitar Digest, signed with Atlantic to a developmental deal, and I have toured the US like 9 times as a professional musician, and live off the royalty payments, so go fuck yourself. I watched your Exodus Metallica videos and ALL of those riff were written by Kirk, and not released by Exodus with the exception of one which was released in 2004. When someone writes riff it's their riff, period. If a band is not signed no one entity owns it

  • @avidmoviefan Secondly, why do I even care? You're a youtube user, you're not some legend that everybody knows about. Please tell me what BAND you are in. You know what? I probably won't know them, but that doesn't matter, because popularity doesn't determine how good of a musician you are. The reason I can TELL you are a bad musician is because YOU think that popularity and music school IS important. Obviously you have no clue what you are saying.

  • @Bassbait Justin Beiber has sold 5 million albums worldwide. Metallica has sold over 100,000,000 worldwide. Exodus has not even gone gold. Not because Justin Beiber is a good musician, he is not, but in reality he sucks just as bad as Exodus. I hate both of them just as equally.

  • @avidmoviefan See? See? You proved my point! Bieber is more popular than Exodus, but you consider them equally bad! So you're saying Metallica is the best because they are the MOST popular, but popularity doesn't matter to how much you hate them? Are you insane? Yes. You are. You need to get a grip on reality. You like Metallica because of a popularity contest, but dislike Bieber even though he has a lot of popularity too? That's hypocrisy.

  • @Bassbait and another thing man...let me ask you a very simple question...you're 23 years old...you have just made 3 of the best albums ever in metal and you're on tour...you'd be doing the same thing they were doing...they were getting a lot of money and with it came fame and booze, etc....what happened to cliff had nothing to do with them being popular they were still touring around in busses with NO videos and NO radio singles cuz they weren't mainstreme and their songs were too long...

  • FAIL SOLO lol

  • @KyleJPie10 That's why it's a DEMO. It's a rough sketch to present to producers, record companies etc. It's most likely off the cuff, which probably sounds better than what you or I could come up with on the spot.

  • @czt1dave I know but its still a horrible solo lol. Kirks improv shit blows.

  • this song could be studied as post modern nihilism...or the peak of the most badass band ever.

  • Killer riff man!!!The verybest ever

  • Damn...the bass on this demo is clear as day

  • @lilmeffle It's cause the real album doesnt have bass in it ;) At least i read that in a book about metallica =) Jason played the bass at the demo but in the album they cut it out ! Poor Jason, bad times for him as a member of metallica :D

  • ...fiyaaah, to begin whipping dance of the dead, la la, la la, eeyah!!! gotta love the improv!

  • The solo made me crack up for some reason

  • @iH8KetchupOnAHotdog lol me too, i laughed really loud when i heard it...

  • i LOVE it ! Heavy Metal at its Best !! talk about 4 guys pissed off at the world - here they are !

    GREAT ALBUM!

  • @jrhoden if the bass was a little more audible dis would be da greatest fukin metal record ever

  • @jrhoden Lol Metallica is thrash.

  • @Quinten264 Lol and your an idiot

  • @jrhoden Lol, do you know the difference between Heavy and Thrash?

  • @Quinten264 LOL and your an idiot ! end of conversation

  • @jrhoden You have a great point but you are wrong

  • @slaytallicdethrax

and i dont argue with CHILDREN... end of conversation!

  • @jrhoden Wow you win every argument. ITS AMAZING

  • @jrhoden Sounds to me like you're the idiot... just saying. Considering you called two people an idiot and one a child to end your arguments.

  • this was the last good album from metalllica in my opinion

  • faster than album version! :)

  • It was a pissed off album because their bus driver killed one of metal's greatest bassists and didn't spend a fucking minute in jail.

  • @bob20202020 its not like he did it on purpose.

  • @bob20202020 cause it was an accident stupid

  • @bob20202020 retard

  • the best song from metallica...

  • You metalheads might be interestd in gettin one of these 'MANIAC' tees like James use to wear back in the day... link under 'website' section of my profile

  • the chugs sound heavier on this version. and and james vocals sound like they were getting deeper like on ajfa but still had a very puppets attitude to them.

  • Dude that is James singing are you burn up or what? Its a fucking demo not the record!!!

  • he sings "frigid callous chill" in the second verse

  • damn back when they had speed fingers

  • they still gotem

  • @WizzardOfGlue They still do!

  • @robheffernan can i ask you somthing, how come metallica dont use heavy tones like they used too? becuase even tho they play fast, their tone now isnt all that heavy, or is it me?

  • solo's kinda funny. idk why, ha. all hail kirk

  • NANA NANA NOOOO!

  • Someone said I "fail" once, for saying it's dark and awesome. Pretty funny. I adore Justice.

  • how can u think that isnt him?

  • yea, its james..if you watch gothenberg 1987 you'll see his voice sounds just like this...

  • james still has the master of puppets era voice on this which is cool....i guess he waited till just a lil l8ter than this to develop his "...and justice for all/black album era voice" .lol

  • Solo sounds interesting.

But the studio version is still the better one.

  • Wow! You can actually hear the bass more on this shitty sounding demo than you can on the album version. Still sounds like he's just following the guitar like the live versions i've heard. Still good Shit though!

  • i love these demos they are great

i think better than the finals except the quality

  • Dude, i can vouch for the person that said this is really Metallica. If you take a close listen, it is most definitley James' voice (especially on the wa-na-na's).

  • He really likes wananas during demos lol

  • sea tan imbesil

  • sounds like there is a phaser effect but its probly the tape

  • @10evilmonkey01 i think its the chorus effect

  • @mbd303030 Its called a Phaser, tart, check out MXR Phase 90, and Phase 100, and Boss PH-1, PH-1r, PH-2, PH-3, they used a flanger effect on Ride the lightning a few times, mainly in Fade to Black

  • @bamf6396 calling someone a tart when they say "i think" is a pretty reasonable response and doesn't make you sound like a complete asshole at all, don't you think?
