  • I love this video!!!!!!!!

  • They probably called out the words of the song line by line because most of the people in the church couldn't read. Lots of Mountain Folk were too busy working to go to school.

  • printed song books were expensive and many couldn't read back in the old days so the song leader had sometimes the only hymnal and lined out the song for them.

  • haha ralph is awsome hes my neighbor

  • I just saw them perform this yesterday near my home in NC. I feel so blessed to have seen them live.

  • I started listening to Ralph Stanley when I was about 13, I finally got to see Ralph II about 3 years ago. They are one the best bluegrass bands.

  • Dr. Ralph is an American treasure. Thanks for posting.

  • @Fugate171 A blessing. He carries the old ways from the Old Countries..... Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England. As a little girl down South, my parents took me to several country churches whose light source was members' lanterns hung on nails in the rough-lumber walls. The Songleader would call out a song, line by line. The people would sing it close after him. Education was a luxury not available to all, so not all could read. Books were costly, didn't contain their kind of music anyway. So...

  • im going to see him in january

  • I can hear the music of Ralph Stanley

over and over again. May God bless him !!!

Hooover, thanks a whole lot for that !!!<3

  • thank you so very much. i do not have the cd's. i really appreciate your project!

  • As good as it gets. Thanks for posting.
