@PierRat98 Put the hook right thru the flea. I like to start at the bottom where there is a cavity that seems to have nothing except the carapace on the other side. I use that spot because I believe the flea will live longer by not puncturing it's internals. Wiggle the hook after it punctures the carapace so that the barb when it goes thru doesn't split the carapace.
@TurdLeaver it all depends on what you want to catch. down in florida ive had alot of luck with shrimp(catching mainly, whiting, croaker, bonet sharks and pompano). but for beginner surf fishing i would say go to your local bait store and get between 20-25 lb test line then get a couple of bottom rigs and some weights depending on how round the surf is. as far as casting goes theres no limit to how far you have to throw your line out, it all depends on where the fish are. DO YOUR RESERCH!
I'm new to surf fishing and I got a 9 foot rod. I have been told to use live minnows and finger mullet that I catch with my cast net. I don't know how far to cast it on my beach. I go into my waist and cast it about 50 feet but I've only got a nibble. Could someone give me some advice, I live in South Florida by the way. I would love a message back please.
shes not used to big slippery objects, or big rods from the way she held herself in the vid. lol
i live in fort pierce, and i gotta tell ya the best place to pompano fish is at the dog beach in west palm, on us1 right past mcarthur beech state park.
it is amazing, thier is also a reef their so i guess that is why but damn you catch soooo many.
i went snorkeling once and hand caught a nice 9 inch slippery dick, swear to god!
hey i have always heard of people selling pompano to restaurants but what restaurants do you sell them to and do you just go in there and ask them if they want some? just wondering if you could help me out thanks
it depends on what they want. i usually go down to the restaurants, and ask what are you guys planing on for fish. they say something like snapper, grouper etc. and they'll pay you of corse i usually get about 15 dollars a fish. weight pending. But what ever is in season, i'll catch and if i think there is too much for me, i go down and ask saying you guys need fish. Cos the fish they get are from there fleet, and you might be able to get a job on there fleet boat. I sell to harbor docks & Aj's.
im from Delray - best Pompano spot is off Atlantic just South of Atlantic- close to that resort- there is a Coral Reef a ways out- it always draws in the Pompano- correct about night time - they stop eating- then you usually catch Red Snapper.....I caught 7 last in one sitting- going today- will let you know how I do- I love surf fishing in Delray
Pomps and flounder are two of the best and tastiest fish i've ever eaten. try the pomp stuffed with capers and lump crab meat, cooked in a paper bag. it'll make you slap yo' momma.
When I was in Florida.. the tackle shop guys, local fisherman, and numerous magazines all said "pompano are biting! Pompano pompano!"
I fished the surf 4 nights a week for 18 months, and tried every suggestion that everyone gave. I never caught a Pompano and I never saw anyone else catch one either. I think it's a fictional fish to get people in the tackle shops and spend money.
Shrimp, clams, squid, minnows, sand-fleas, cut bait, and every color and size of jig heads, hooks and leaders you could think of. Everyone had their OWN two-cents on how to catch them too.
that's your mistake. u fished at night.pompano are sight feeding fish. they stop eathing at night. they eat best early morning at just before sundown.
I live in Fort Lauderdale right on the beach and I can tell you that the Pompano come through every year. It's really hit or miss though if you are surf fishing, but if they pass through your area they will slam you. I mean if you have 3 rods out, all three will get hit at the same time and you'll be going crazy to bring them in. I've caught lots of them on Anglin's pier and also south of there on the beach...
