Yea he does have an excuse: Gamestyle. Nadal beat him in most of the French Opens he played. Nadal has a longer stroke than most players and retrieves any ball he can (or can't =P) get too. Since clay courts are slower than other court types, this is the perfect environment for Nadal's game. He has time to set up and getting to balls is easier.

The times Federer lost to some1 other than Nadal, could've been a bad day or w/e. Soderling beat Nadal so anything can happen =P
