omg ur hair is jus like mine! i thought i would never see anyone on youtube with the same hair as me. my mom is black and my dad is chinese. im going to do journey videos to. i permed my hair to and i colored it and everything. im goin to put up videos soon ull see its juss the same almost.
@BananaaMoon yeah that's true cuz my cousin has hair that's less curly than a lot of bi-racial people I've known so I understand. I guess it's just cuz she's biracial and saying "biracial hair" was the simplest way to say "hair similar 2 mine" even though people who aren't biracial can have the same type of hair etc.
@BananaaMoon it's because of different hair sensitivities etc. for example I'm black so anything can be done to my hair and it wouldn't matter but someone who is directly mixed wouldn't be able to do the same things I do to my hair or it might damage it. But that's just a very loose general example.
It's odd, I have four children and all are b-racial or multi-cultural (my husband (white) and I (black) have three daughters and I have a son, who's dad is PR and german (a previous relationship) everyone of my children's hair is different. I need to learn because contrary to popular belied not all Black women, such as I, can do hair and I want to avoid if I can damaging my little princesses hair. Yours is very much like my 4 yr old and it is out of control but I try avoid using any chemical
do not resent you hair ever. your hair is beautiful. do not relax your ever again. my hair is naturally curly too and my hair is a part of who i am and yours the same
I am birracial also and my hair is so thick and curly and wavy. I want straight hair ,but I just wear it natural. One time, I decided to straighten my hair and I had a lot of split ends and damage. So, I got some cut off, but is was still long down my back. The stylist, who was a black man, asked me if I had ever had a relaxer or perm, and I said "No." Because I never did any of that, I just wore it natural. He made me feel bad and like my natural hair wasn't good enough. Now, I am proud.
this explains my life perfectly.im half black half white and ive bern raised by my white side. i straighten it i used to relax it and ive dyed it several times.now it is so dry and damaged its not even funny.
If you're Black and Puerto Rican then I'm guessing you're about 3/4 Black because most Puerto Ricans are mixed w/African anyway. It explains why you just look Black. Good luck with your hair.
@CheezInspector whats ur point? So tired of folks trying to break down someone ethnicity and stick them in ONE category...there isnt one category..you know nothing about her heritage...her father could be 5th generation "pure" PR for all you know..Im sorry but Im annoyed bc thats just like in slavery days when ppl would say if you had one drop of african blood..you're african...you dont need to identify her...thats HER job and I think she was quite CLEAR about what her heritage is.Let it be.
@mcoordinator, not sure why you're over-reacting. It's just a fact that many ppl in PR are, in fact, Black or partly Black. So when someone says they're "Black and Puerto Rican", logic holds that it's likely a redundancy, especially where the person saying it looks basically just Black.
Your hair is just like mine & your story is the same as me! My mom is black & my dad is Trinidadian. I have gotten relaxers & I also went to a permanently white school, so I would straighten my hair 24/7. Now I am trying to return it to it's natural state. So far, so good(: I miss my curls.
P.S. OMG my mom was the same, she never wanted me to cut my hair lol
I am so happy I found your vid. We have so much in common. I am also biracial mixed with black and Puerto Rican. My mom is black and dad is puerto rican. My hair first got relaxed when I was seven and it stayed relaxed until 9 months ago when i decided to go natural. I chopped it all off 7 months ago. I am glad I found someone with the same exact hair as me. I also have a 3b texture I think.
I understand you. Im mainly Puerto Rican, and Haitian . my Haitian mother always did mi hair n my dad wanted it relaxed. I've been relaxin my hair since i was eleven, n it stinks cuz i really didnt get a chance to get to kno my natrual hair type. if i plan on not using a relaxer and going back to my natrual hair , i'd hav to chop it al off and start fresh. but i heard that Mixed Chicks Hair Products were great for Hair types like us. u mite give it a shot.
We share the same hair texture I am African American and cuban, Barbadian. My hair is 3c/4a very curl wavy and course. I can relate to your story about the bad hair habits it took me a while to learn now that I'm older I love my curly hair it's a blessing.
Im black and hispanic as well its so amazing to see so many that are mixed with the same as i am most are like half black and half white. Your hair is BEAUTIFUL btw! Curly hair is beautiful embrace it. My mom is hispanic and she was the one to do my hair and my hair was always in a bun. Up until a year ago i been finding out ways to do my hair. I use mixed chicks products and Curls and they work amazing for people with curly hair. So you should try it!
Black and Latina checking in!! We have similar stories too. Im currently transitioning and its been almost a year (one more month)! Good luck on your journey i wish you the best of luck.
I like that you said "I'm 23, I'm beautiful and I don't need approval from anyone else". A lot of people wait much longer to come to this conclusion. I applaude your confidence!
I am black and Puertorican also and my hair is also the same as yours.... I had to do the big chop and I hated the big chop at first but when it grew out I was excited, When I got older I apreciated my curly hair as well. Good luck
@lexingtonann true but usually when someone says they are half french they are saying that they are half white.if someone says they are puerto rican than it means that person is native indian or mixed because most of them are those races
@TheMidnightBell07 If you don't get the point after reading all of the above, I cannot help you get it. Puerto Rico is a place, like the USA. Saying "I am 1/2 American" says nothing about racial background. Also, not all people of Puerto Rico are tri-racial.
@lexingtonann Hey,I know it's a place but you said this: [quote] Puerto Rican is not a race.It is a nationality.Black can be a citizen of any country.Good luck with your hair.[quote]The way that was written it sounded like you were implying that she was a Black person of Puerto Rican decent; however I've heard Puerto Rican guy say out his own mouth that Puerto Ricans consider themselves a mixture of African European and Taíno.However75% identify as White12.8%Black and 0.5% Native census 2010
that's very true. I assume that she is referring to herself as hispanic and black. I am also half black and half hispanic (my dad is from puerto rico) but since ppl always refer 2 puertoricans as a race (even though they are mixed w/ Spanish, Taino, and African) , it's hard to be politically correct nowadays.
I really like your video. When was young I didn't like my hair at all. I used to cut the edges of my hair off with scissors because I didn't like it being puffy. I wanted straight hair. That made my forth grade teacher mad because she said i can't get braided. I'm half white and half Liberian. It's kinda like an afro type.
Hey! Well you came to the right place to get help! If you put in the tags: natural, curly, hair, styles, transitioning, etc..you will see that there are ALOT of "naturals" on here sharing their hair experiences, joys and woes. They also give alot of advice on great products, bad products and homemade products.
Personally, I've refrained from using heat . I'm transitioning to get all of the relaxer out and have picked up ALOT of tips on here. Good luck, Chica!
you're beautiful but your hair is pretty much really damaged.i wish i never relaxed mine in the first place.mine was like that till i decided to go natural and i've never looked back
I like your video. Your hair reminds me a lot of mine. I don't know sometimes how I want it to be, but oh well. I just cut it all off and I'm starting over with no chemicals.
dont do it!!! just do mini chops. that's what i did and in less than 2yrs i was 100% natural with out the shock of being bald. cause when you go your whole life with hair then over nite go bald... it'll mess you up. dont get me wrong, i love short styles, i just couldnt do it.. yet lol
God Bless You. Your hair is beautiful. LOL. You look almost like the actor, Parker Mckenna Posey! You are the most beautiful girl on the face of Gods Green Earth. Can I have your number? LOL
Good for you! I am doing exactly this. Good luck with your hair journey x

i use kids organinc shea buter and water, conditioner, peppermint oil, and tea tree oil mixed together. i'm not mixed, but my hair is kinda curly.
products that are good on kinky hair is good on loosley curled hair as well, b/c at the end of the day we all need moisture.
p.s STAY AWAY FROM PETROLEUM & MINERAL OIL. they make your hair greasy, NOT moisturized.
and you don't have to chop all your hair off at once, just grow it out and cut the perm little by little. =)
