Since I was in teens I have gone without pic. I have been trying it pick-less; tell me if this is an okay way to go, or do I really need to get back some pick skills. And if so, what size do you use. I would really rather prefer to go without, though. Maybe this is just bad habit, but aren't there plenty of players who go without?
Thank you soooooo much! I couldn't find a good lesson or tab anywhere, you've just helped me learn to play one of my most favourite songs and I am stoked. You sir are a great man. Rock on!
I've already seen your covers and you have some really accurate material, but i think you could've done so much better in this lesson. If you ever plan on recording another one, try playing at full speed the part you're about to teach and explain a bit of the scales being used. For example "on this solo he's just doing a run up the pentatonic scales, adding this, this and this notes". Oh, and maybe i suggest for the next lesson (if there's ever going to be one) Lemon Song? Your cover was great!
@soadfe I stay with the standard E strings and retune them. On acoustic steel guitars, what I prefer to do is to buy the thickest steel G string I can find and substitute the steel string for the wound G string (the wound string commonly included in a full set). It produces more clarity, plus it's way easier to bend than a wound string. Trying to bend up to pitch with a wound 3rd string is difficult. It's tough on the hand too.
what kind of guitar is that?

Why don't you tune the high E up to F? I think that's how Jimmy did it.
nowinterweather 8 months ago
@nowinterweather Not really. This song's tuning is CFCFAC, one step down from DGDGBD. I believe it's an open F tuning.

thanks so much!! this is very helpful!!!
what strings do you use? do you a special set of strings for open tunings or do you stay with the standard E strings and retune them???
