really lousy camera work jumping here and there, this side and that, never letting us see the play. discouraging. i'm trying really hard to enjoy a drum solo and all they can do is skip around like the director needs some valium or something.
This is a song. You´ve to see the whole thing! There´re guitar parts, horns, keys and so on. I like PC more than guys like Simon Phillips or Terry Bozzio. Those guys are not my cup of tea. I don´t care if they tuning their drum kids in mixolydian. I don´t care if they can kick the base drum fast as a hummingbird.

Was lucky enough to see him on his first solo tour in Penn State's Rec Hall (very small) from front row in the tier directly over the stage where one actually got to see the true mastery. An experience I will never forget...FYI, in really early Genesis, he was not the drummer...he did not join the band until Steve departed.

From what I have heard, he is unable to play drums at all now, due to severe nerve damage. What a loss! To me, as a drummer, Neil, Stewart, and Phil are the top 3 rock drummers.
I think this is cool because it's very composed. A lot of drum solos are just random improvisations but you can tell that most of this is planned out.
ever since Phil got really famous with his bubblegum schtick, it's really easy to forget that back in the day, he had a career as one of the most electrifying drummers of the progressive rock era .. this shows that he hasn't really lost it - well, at least until recently when disease has rendered him unable to drum, sadly..

Great stuff. Having been a Genesis/ Phil Collins fan my whole life it's hard to find footage where Phil is doing an all out solo. Chester is there but mostly just maintaining the beat. Phil can flat out play the drums and he's the best drummer/lead vocalist in history.(not at the same time of course enter Chester Thompson). I make that statement with no reservations whatsoever because there's no close second. You have to be very good at both. In the music world that's a contradiction in terms.
@meccaturbo I said "drummer/lead vocalist" which is a completely different statement. Phil has been a top notch drummer for years and he also happens to be a very good lead vocalist. Extremely unusual skill-set. The good singers who play drums are awful at the kit and the same applies to drummers being of a lead vocalist caliber singer. I've given this great thought because I feel it's more than just rock trivia. If you can come up with any real competition, not the Don Henley types, must know.

There are only a couple of guys who are able to sing and drum at the same time, and actually pull it off well: Phil Collins, Taylor Hawkins. The only other guy I can think of is Don Henley.... but its not like he was some virtuoso or something....
I once saw Phil Collins LIVE, at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, in Late Summer 1990, during his "Serious" tour. I went with my parents and my brother.

@IRISHBUDDAFILTH the problem is that u cant really see when somebody is being sarcastic or joking on comments, so u gotta expect people taking u literally. the only way they'll know ur joking is like if u put something really obviously a joke and yes that joke might seem obvious to u but u gotta think u can find all type of people on internet so u dont really know when someone is joking :)

Great stuff. Having been a Genesis/ Phil Collins fan my whole life it's hard to find footage where Phil is doing an all out solo. Chester is there but mostly just maintaining the beat. Phil can flat out play the drums and he's the best drummer/lead vocalist in history.(not at the same time of course enter Chester Thompson). I make that statement with no reservations whatsoever because there's no close second. You have to be very good at both. In the music world that's a contradiction in terms.

@meccaturbo I said "drummer/lead vocalist" which is a completely different statement. Phil has been a top notch drummer for years and he also happens to be a very good lead vocalist. Extremely unusual skill-set. The good singers who play drums are awful at the kit and the same applies to drummers being of a lead vocalist caliber singer. I've given this great thought because I feel it's more than just rock trivia. If you can come up with any real competition, not the Don Henley types, must know.

Taylor Hawkins is a good meat and potatoes drummer. very solid. However, to put him in this caliber of drummer I believe is incredibly misleading.

There are only a couple of guys who are able to sing and drum at the same time, and actually pull it off well: Phil Collins, Taylor Hawkins. The only other guy I can think of is Don Henley.... but its not like he was some virtuoso or something....
