@tunetorials Eric and Mickey are THE men. There should be a new movie made with him and Roberts...with fantastic story, dialogue, acting etc. doesn't have to be a non-stop action flick
you suck buddy save your degenerate illiterate shit for something els. This is one of the best movies ever and the ending is what makes it. Listen to the dialogue.
@Flapjackhayden that's not what I mean dumb-ass, I mean it sucks because all he has left is wrestling and nobody else at the end of the movie so before assume im illiterate get your facts straight or better yet, just ask me why i put it sucks at the end, so you don't make a fool out of yourself. Oh just fyi its a good ending but I feel bad for MR at the end when he wrestles and he knows hes felling the pain again which can lead him to die....
I think the people that say that wrestling is fake sort of miss the point.
Saying it's is fake is like saying that Jackie Chan's movies are fake. After all, those guys weren't REALLY mad at Jackie Chan when they chased him to the edge of that building in Rumble in the Bronx. They were just acting.
It doesn't matter. He still jumped from one building to the other.
Wrestlers are showmen that can keep a crowd entertained with a staged match for an hour at a time. That's pretty impressive.
I agree man. Its not fake, its entertainment.. if you go to watch wrestling looking for a reality beatdown and guys ripping each other apart then your missing the point.
@thebgbb yeah, after 100 years of the sport you'd think idiots would no longed feel the need to proclaim it's fake. We all know that by now. That doesn't mean the guys don't take risks. The punching in the face is fake, sure. The rivalries are scripted, we all know that. But the stunts these guys pull off are very dangerous and for idiots to talk on and on about how fake it is is just stupid.
Phenomenal film. A lot of people continue to mention that wrestling is fake, which it is, but this movie isn't really about wrestling. Wrestling is simply the vehicle used to convey the film's real purpose.
Don't forget that Marisa Tomei's performance is superb as well.
this movie reminds me a lot about the documentary done on Jake "The Snake" Roberts some years back, am I the only one who sees that? just a thought.........
I just finished watching this movie. It is definitely constructed and directed in a unique fashion. Keeps things interesting. I would have dug a different style of ending, but hey...it's their movie.
Havent seen the movie yet but I admire his work very much. Big fan of most of his movies. He's a very good actor, very much in the top echelon's. Maybe he should get married and have children (if he could just find the right women) Maybe this is what he needs to finally temper his wild soul? Dunno. Very happy for him.
The movie was good, depressing but good. I hate the whole thing where they follow the people around with a video camera kinda thing. That shit is revolting but otherwise it was good and Rourke was top notch and in his element.
Ok I am sorry for the comment/analogy. But I still think that Mickey should have won. Sean Penn is a great human and actor. However, Mickey gave a life time performance. Long live Mickey Rourke the Ram!!!
I agree completely I saw both movies, Milk wasn't a bad movie but The Wrestler was just REAL POWERFUL and something new as well as far as movie style goes. The Wrestler was extremely realistic as far as character goes and the story was great.Definately deserved the Oscar.
they gave the oscar to a movie about a fag instead of giving it to a guy who was a bad-ass masculine man. says a lot about how pussified our society is today.
It has nothing to do with pussies. It's about giving the prize for the movies that endorses the leftist agenda. Look at the nominees of this year and the one before it and realize how much leftist garbage is there.
I demand a recount for Mickey Rourke, Penn is great and I have to give a shout out to him for the accolade in his speech that he gave to Mickey but Mick truly deserved this. He has realized the errors of his ways but Randy the Ram should have gotten this. Congratulations to Penn though. Frank Langella has been ignored by everyone and its not fair he has been around a long time, Long live Randy the Ram Rourke!
Rourke screwed out an oscar. Sympathy for the gay character of Sean Penn. Bullshit you have to play a fag to win an oscar. Also Slumdog sucks and it get visual awards to fuck that bullshit
'the wrestler' was a pretty blatant cop of 'beyond the mat' some of the scenes with Jake the snake were just straight lifted...like the scene in the phone booth where (they both) are talking to their daughters... i would have liked the wrestler better if i hadnt seen the other... if you liked the wrestler check 'beyond the mat'
Sorry, Ram never talked to his daughter on the phone. He always just went to her. Try to get your facts straight if you are going to be so critical about such a touching movie.
Psst! I just read the Mickster has a serious shoe fetish. He just LOVES loafers. He had over 30 pounds of blue ones in his bags (just like the ones he was wearing with no socks) when he was at stopped at a London airport last week. He was trying to fly home and he had to rearrange them amongst his other bags. No word yet if he also had a case full of Odor Eaters. Things do get sweaty when the feet go commando brother.

I loved the movie. Did you think the ending left us hanging? The audience was frozen through the credits looking for the ending to what happened with his daughter and girlfriend.
I thought it was a surprising albeit fitting ending to the film. In my own opinion I feel as though The Ram died after that Ram Jam, and as far as his daughter and girlfriend are considered, he fel he had nothing left which is why he still went out there even in his heart's current condition.
I too think the leap was suicidal. He looks back and can't see Pam and that (she was probably unavailable to him anyway) and chooses the fans and goes out in a blaze of glory.
Way to go Rourke! I think boxing causes damage and it scares me for him (well anybody). There is no stomping out that talent though. It is good to see that the Golden Globe folks saw that! Not just a contender anymore!
The Wrestler would have to be my fave movie of 2008. Perfect performances from Marissa Tomei and of course Mickey Rourke. If you haven't seen it I strongly suggest you go see it ASAP. I'm a bit disappointed it's not up for best picture or director. The Oscar is Mickey's all the way!
It is good to see Mickey at the top of his game. I have seen his career go up and down. In reality he is right up their in talent with DeNiro and Pacino.
Like Mickey I have experienced a few of these things after telling CEO's I flunked ass kissing 101. The reality is that I do not regret a day of it, and your career comes out better in the end because you don't end up having anxiety attacks, high blood pressure, health problems or having to put up with assholes with MBA's.
I dont know alot about Mr Rourke's acting but did like him in Diner and Sin City. He appears to be an alcoholic druguser with a beyond nasty temper. It was also in the news he beat his galpal up I was not impressed. Hearing it from him that he messed up for 15yrs makes me wonder if he has a new path in life. I hope so.
i just came homw from seeing this and, to be honest i think it may well be the best fils this year, its much better than slumdog millionaire, and i still cant beleive mickey rourke did this movie for free, its great, cant wait for the DVD with all the extra's
In my opinion it was inpeciable, intense and phenemonal. Best movie ive seen all year. And due to my love or professional wrestling i really enjoyed it. Mickey did a great job of acting. And i hope him the best in the near future.
Lotta pressure now on Darrens next film 'The Fighter'. Im looking forward to that one more, its a movie based on mickey wards life. Should b a good one as well
This is one phenomenal film. It has stuck with me for days after watching it. I highly recommend seeing it. Films this good do not come along too often.
Oscar Predictions: Mickey Rourke best actor, Heath Ledger best supporting actor, Anne Hathaway best actress, Melissa Tomai best supporting actress, Best Motion Picture Curious Case of Benjimin (forgot last name)
I liked the last 30 seconds... 'he must be talented because he has a lotta balls to be saying that to me'. I think if the movie doesn't go well in the box office, Aronofsky will get beat up by Mickey, after all the shit he pulled to do the part.
my respect for Aronofsky as one of the top 5 directors of my life time has just been solidified. Its a great director who can find a diamond in the rough and give this man a chance while showing him raw discipline. rourke will continue to do well if he can stick with aronofsky.
never mind. ledger will be nominated and will win for best supporting actor. mickey will win it for LEAD actor. my mistake. although i still think ledger did a better job with the joker.
You mindless fucking SOBs who go on and on about how he looks.Fuck, I know hockey players his age who look 10 times rougher. Mr. Rourke and Robert Downey are America's finest actors. All of us are blessed to have him back at his peak. I've seen all the films the critics are picking...Dark Knight, Benjamin, Slumdog, Doubt....There is quite simply no other character on film this year that so moves an audience. Randy the Ram is complete. Mr. Rourke deserves the Oscar. And our respect.
i agree 100% that mickey should win. also, i think he will because of the whole comeback story and the fact that the only preformance anywhere near the quality of his is Sean Penn in Milk and he won a few years ago and the academy doesn't like givng out oscars to a former winners
i do not care a6out mickey rourkes 6iography or personality his agoraphia etc. , it happened he played in many movies i really like ...it seems rather he has the same taste to choose scripts like me than ... anyway , darrons movies are pathetic, he is dealing sometime with too 6ig topics making them in a ridiculous fashion
I'm not sure why people need to be concerned with Mickey Rourke's personal life or personality - it's about the art, and he's definitely talented. Being talented doesn't always mean that you're smart about your career. On the other side of that coin, there are plenty of really famous untalented folks who just know how to work it. He said it himself in the film - it ain't always about ability.
But hey, Mickey fucking Rourke is fucking BACK! It's about time.
I agree 100% with you. I think Tom Sizemore is another great example. Great actor with a lot of talent, but fell off somewhere along the way. It really is a shame but I'm glad to see Mickey is doing much better!
Yes, Mickey Rourke's once beautiful face has been left crazy looking by a boxing career, partying, and plastic surgery. No matter - this movie (just saw it yesterday) is amazing. Simple, spare but truly beautiful in a raw sort of way. It draws you in so that you feel you are living it. A really incredible and Oscar-worthy performance. Go see it - really. Way better than all the crap that counts as "entertainment" these days.

jerk is a little light to me.
he seems like a classless douchebag. sure hes got talent, but who cares, theres a reason why he aint in movies anymore; he's a fuckin hack and a faggat who runs his mouth way too much.
ive never seen an actor talk like that. its like he's got serious issues or something. dude needs therapy in the worst way. wow. wat a sore loser jerk still indeed.
Mickey rourke is an actor who had alot of chances to be great, but he fucked up. He is human, and like most humans he made his share of mistakes. this film is proof that he is a true leading man when the film is right.
this Film struck a cord with 2 groups of people. True wrestling fans and True film fans. This Film is by far the best performance of the year. So before you talk shit about mickey's past why not watch the movie and realize that his past is the past and his time is now.
Mickey's a cool guy, seems like his troubles are behind him. He did a very good interview on Letterman a few nights ago. I'd like to see him in more movies, he's probably better than half of the actord we have now.
Interesting to hear of the relationship dynamic between M. Rourke and the director. It's cool to hear that the director provided the supportive container (temenos) and the firm ego-boundary for Mickey, to help him demonstrate his talents and gifts as an actor! Its just weird how magnanimous talent is often present along with a significant daemonic flip-side--e.g., M. Rourke's emotional depth and authenticity as an actor coupled with such self-destructive tendencies. I wish him well.
I love what Mickey's opponent says to him in that clip: "I forgot how fun this was, man!" Their like a couple of old guys scrappin' in the back yard. Its that reality I love about wrestling.
the movie seems alright. i jus wanna know one thing. y or what made him wanna look like what he does now? i mean dude looks fucked up. he looked real good before whatever he did to his face. whats the deal?
we all love you Micky and hopefully you will win a Oscar for this performance. I think it also took allot of humility for you to let the Director talk to you the way he did.
Mickey is the best and considering the numerous plastic surgeries he had he looks still pretty good now in comparison to pics from 2006. i just love that guy, he's an amazing actor. the best example is the scene he had in "the pledge"
It's a pretty odd and unfortunate story. After a his most successful movies he ran into a bit of a slump. Financially he was really bad and claimed bankruptcy. He more or less left the movie business and decided to take up the sport he did as a teen. BOXING.. Let's just say he didn't do too well and suffered some disfiguring punishment. He got plastic surgery to try to fix it and, well, what you see is what you get !!
I hope that all the naysayers that watch this when It comes out realise how they are about the wrestling business and that Its not "fake" Its a business like everything else and that Its a form of entertainment like everything else also and not "fake" and "pretend"
I think that Mickey would look better if he lost that puffiness...weight in the face thing..I gained a lot in the last ten years..You really lose that edge. (No jokes please.....Yeah, ya lose the edge, but gain a shelf.)....By the way, hey, Mickey, I saw the Architectural Digest issue on you and your apartment...really great. and the suit you wore was amazing. I hope you still have the place.

MR basically played himself and that's why it was such a classic performance.
All the other actors were pretty bad, especially the girl playing his daughter. Tomei should stick with chickflicks, this was way beyond her calibre.
Overall not a bad movie, but overhyped.
Only MR deserves the oscar, not the movie.

Just finished watching the movie. It was great.
In my opinion it was inpeciable, intense and phenemonal. Best movie ive seen all year. And due to my love or professional wrestling i really enjoyed it. Mickey did a great job of acting. And i hope him the best in the near future.

Oscar Predictions: Mickey Rourke best actor, Heath Ledger best supporting actor, Anne Hathaway best actress, Melissa Tomai best supporting actress, Best Motion Picture Curious Case of Benjimin (forgot last name)

I watched mickey in the wrestler i think he has the oscar nailed for his performance as a washed up hasbeen hollywood loves flawed people
shakemahead 3 years ago
I liked the last 30 seconds... 'he must be talented because he has a lotta balls to be saying that to me'. I think if the movie doesn't go well in the box office, Aronofsky will get beat up by Mickey, after all the shit he pulled to do the part.
meserie74 3 years ago
my respect for Aronofsky as one of the top 5 directors of my life time has just been solidified. Its a great director who can find a diamond in the rough and give this man a chance while showing him raw discipline. rourke will continue to do well if he can stick with aronofsky.
luckytwentyseven 3 years ago
never mind. ledger will be nominated and will win for best supporting actor. mickey will win it for LEAD actor. my mistake. although i still think ledger did a better job with the joker.
playsbba018 3 years ago
why does mickey deserve this over ledger? ledger put himself into a completely different person and personality when doing the joker.
playsbba018 3 years ago
You mindless fucking SOBs who go on and on about how he looks.Fuck, I know hockey players his age who look 10 times rougher. Mr. Rourke and Robert Downey are America's finest actors. All of us are blessed to have him back at his peak. I've seen all the films the critics are picking...Dark Knight, Benjamin, Slumdog, Doubt....There is quite simply no other character on film this year that so moves an audience. Randy the Ram is complete. Mr. Rourke deserves the Oscar. And our respect.
dublin3000 3 years ago 4
i agree 100% that mickey should win. also, i think he will because of the whole comeback story and the fact that the only preformance anywhere near the quality of his is Sean Penn in Milk and he won a few years ago and the academy doesn't like givng out oscars to a former winners
YungN4sTy 3 years ago
i do not care a6out mickey rourkes 6iography or personality his agoraphia etc. , it happened he played in many movies i really like ...it seems rather he has the same taste to choose scripts like me than ... anyway , darrons movies are pathetic, he is dealing sometime with too 6ig topics making them in a ridiculous fashion
xonoffx 3 years ago
I'm not sure why people need to be concerned with Mickey Rourke's personal life or personality - it's about the art, and he's definitely talented. Being talented doesn't always mean that you're smart about your career. On the other side of that coin, there are plenty of really famous untalented folks who just know how to work it. He said it himself in the film - it ain't always about ability.
But hey, Mickey fucking Rourke is fucking BACK! It's about time.
LittleRedMenace 3 years ago

Way better than all the crap that counts as "entertainment" these days.
klp11211 3 years ago
Rourke, good times:
A prayer for the dying, Francesco, Angel Heart, Homeboy, Barfly, In the Year of the Dragon
Aronofsky, good times:
Pi, Requiem for a dream
This does not seem to be their climax.

jerk is a little light to me.
he seems like a classless douchebag. sure hes got talent, but who cares, theres a reason why he aint in movies anymore; he's a fuckin hack and a faggat who runs his mouth way too much.
ive never seen an actor talk like that. its like he's got serious issues or something. dude needs therapy in the worst way. wow. wat a sore loser jerk still indeed.
lol

Mickey rourke is an actor who had alot of chances to be great, but he fucked up. He is human, and like most humans he made his share of mistakes. this film is proof that he is a true leading man when the film is right.
this Film struck a cord with 2 groups of people. True wrestling fans and True film fans. This Film is by far the best performance of the year. So before you talk shit about mickey's past why not watch the movie and realize that his past is the past and his time is now.
teach4anarchy 3 years ago
Mickey's a cool guy, seems like his troubles are behind him. He did a very good interview on Letterman a few nights ago. I'd like to see him in more movies, he's probably better than half of the actord we have now.
Anglynn74 3 years ago 3
Interesting to hear of the relationship dynamic between M. Rourke and the director. It's cool to hear that the director provided the supportive container (temenos) and the firm ego-boundary for Mickey, to help him demonstrate his talents and gifts as an actor! Its just weird how magnanimous talent is often present along with a significant daemonic flip-side--e.g., M. Rourke's emotional depth and authenticity as an actor coupled with such self-destructive tendencies. I wish him well.

Do you think he deserves to win the oscar or is it a good performance that will be nominated mainly for the story of Rourkes comeback?

He deserves it. I don't like Rourke at all and don't care about his "comeback". I won't deny the quality of the performance.
