This commercial brings back memories. I had a Coppermine Pentium III 800mhz, with 640mb of RAM and a 32mb GeForce back in 1999.
It was just a *slight* improvement over the Pentium Classic machine that it replaced. I have fond memories of playing lots of Age of Empires II on that thing.
I still have a laptop running with a ... Pentium 2 @ 230 Mhz ;-) Fast enough running some emulators with a speed needing to be slowed down. But of course Win 7 on a P3? ... ;-) Nevertheless i love to see the BlueManGroup again ...
@QueenOfUnimatrixZero dont you underestimate win 7 on pentium cores! There are people out there that run windows 7 on Pentium II 266Mhz Cpu and 96mb rams

I´ll try this with my laptop described before. But this can be just an experiment not more, because i am running software on this "machine" ;-) which isn´t compatible even to Win XP. So it isn´t just nostalgic still running such an oldie...
Nevertheless thanx for your link. Maybe it will be helpful for experimenting... ^-^
@QueenOfUnimatrixZero may i ask what software are you running on this "machine"? oh and please, if you have made any progress in the experiment, please inform me or maybe start a blog!
I am running the Star Trek Interactive Technical Manual of the Enterprise and the Omnipedia Software containing information about starfleet etc. Originally designed to run under Win 95 it refuses to run under XP and coded to a resolution of 640*480 pixel it would be very funny on a HD screen. On this old laptop it runs fast and fullscreen (13"). Because of a defect soundchip i use an external usb soundcard reconnected to the internal speakers. Nice toy... ;-)

Hello everybody :) My computer content Pentium!!! 700 MHz (Coppermine), 512MB physic memory, ATI Radeon 9250 128MB. With this computer i played "Tomb Raider Anniversary" for example :) And many games of this type that my machine is lower than the requirements.
@catrevenger I managed to OC my Intel P3 to 1 GHz, but it was nowhere near as fast as my AMD Athlon 2200 in my newer computer, which I overclocked to 2.3 GHz. just last year I replaced my Athlon pc with a new Phenom II Quad core, but i still keep both as backup computers, the AMD Athlon 2200 is almost as good as a Intel P4 and therefore still capable of playing many games, I plan to attempt 3 GHz when I have proper cooling :P
@TOXIKFILMS My $30 entry level Sempron 140 will wipe the floor with your p4. No offence, but either you or your friend don't know what they are doing.
@danyearight not to bash on your sempron, but i never had any luck with them, my intel celeron ran better than the sempron, i have a sempron out in the living room and it runs pretty decent but it doesn't keep up with my intels
no offence mate. A sempron doesn't match the power of a Pentium 4. Sempron is actually less powerful than an entry level Celeron. This is a fact becasue I've used every processor since the original Pentium was released.
@bus131 You do not know then. A Sempron 140 on Socket AM3 paired with DDR3 RAM is going to wipe the floor with a Pentium 4. Thanks for wasting my time.
This would depend on what Pentium 4 you compared it to. The original P4 maybe yes but the P4 Cedar Mill version would run it all the way. The only advantage your Sempron would have is it would be running DDR3 memory rather than DDR2 like the P4 would. We spend months on end testing computers and various different configurations to see what is the best. So apparantly looking at your comments your wasting everyone elses time thinking you know it all.
@bus131 Once again proving that even when people have the internet and a wealth of information at their hands they can not research. Are you afraid of being wrong? Hell the Semprom 140 is similar in performance to a Pentium D at similar clocks, yes thats two Pentium 4's.
@bus131 The Sempron 140 or the now released 145 are basically the best single core CPU's ever made. There are may readily available benchmarks around to prove it. Guess you don't know as much as you think and that's OK, living life is a learning process.
@oOcrazy95Oo With Xubuntu, that may not be such an outlandish statement, lol. I think it's disgusting how new operating systems are designed to require such demanding specs, that a new computer will run Windows 7 at the same speed as an old one will run Windows 2000. It's wasteful, really. But hey, thank god for linux!
wow, when this thing came out it was like voodoo how fast they could get it, i have an old one @800Mhz (OCable to 1 ghz!) that was like the holy grail at the time.
Holy crap...i used to have a computer with a III in it...it was like your average every day consumer car...im running a Duo...compared to that, it's a fucking Lamborghini o.O
Isn't that the truth! I'm 17 and already feel like I'm getting old... lol. Especially being in the IT field, I see these things change much too often!
Just think. I thought I was good 2 years ago with the one Intel Core 2 Duo I still have at 2.0GHz. And look at what the iMacs have at the lowest now. 3.06GHz.
what no OS to run ? So how the heck does it work ? it was a celeron or something. still part of the p3 family. so yeah i would say it had a p3 ! and the xbox could kick ass.
It's about as close to a Pentium III as a mobile Celeron of the time would have been. There were no real differences, other than the cache size, between the Xbox processor and a mobile Pentium III.
which pentium d model. 820,805..? I love pentium 4 and D but pentium 3 was a workhorse cpu. It did work when you needed it to in those times with heavy multitasking staying up late on your laptop until 3 am when the laptop was constantly under heavy load for the last 9 hours. Bye pentium 3, we will miss you......
Still i can play Need For Speed Underground 2, NFS Carbon, NFS Pro Street, Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour, C&C 3 Tiberium, Warcraft3 World of Warcraft, NBA Live07, Max Payne2, GTA San Andreas and more 3D games in full detail w/o stoping, hanging or restarting... Also i can play DVD, HDVD videos smoothly in full screen... BELIEVE IT OR NOT!!! Intel PentiumIII user from Philippines...!!!
You have served me since I was a child at the OverClocked speed of 566Mhz, and the last thing I ran was Delta Force Black Hawk Down and tehre I said "Now I really need a new CPU" and now you are 3ft under storage in my garage.
For the skeptics who embrace no later then P4s, I was informed the early P4s were no match for the last P3s, the Tualatins... These were quite shortlived but well refined Pentiums of the late 1990s
I stick by the Pentium3, I started in PC computing with a Celeron 700 and now am on a P3 mobile Dell C600 laptop! These are SpeedStep CPUs that go up to 1Ghz and 1.2 on the C610 model. They work great for most apps. Video ATI memory is SMALL though
Bill Schwanke, do you want to know the most weirdest thing? I started off with a Celeron 700MHz CPU on a HP Pavilion 7810 and my main laptop is an 850MHz Dell Latitude C600. However, my desktop has an AMD Athlon FX-55 processor. I just think its funny that we both started off with the same processor and we both have the same type of laptop :-P
I used my eTower to scour (haha) eBay for Betamax and SVHS vcrs, and camcorders, now I use those to get my video to digital! The C600/610 is SOOOO easy to take apart and repair it makes sense to buy parts to assemble for these! I have fun with it. P/// 4-ever!
I got my AMD PCs rather late... a donated 2400 and a 1Ghz Socket A 5000 Compaq PC, that runs upto 1.55 Ghz with the 2400 (it's an XP Athlon that in the right bus speed is 2Ghz

The newer 1GHz+ P3s were apparently a lot better than the first 1.3-2.0 P4s.
stoneageIII 4 years ago
Agreed. Expensive high-latency RDRAM was what held the P4 back in its early days. 1GHz++ P3s with SDRAM ruled in 2001.
Couple a P3 1GHz with a GeForce 2 Ultra and 256MB system RAM and you got a super gaming PC.

I know there had to be more then one ad for P3, I'd like to see more, about anything on the Pentium 3, in fact

Found some CPU dedicated web sites... just Google'd 'em
Very good information on some old boards, cards and CPUs online

I started out at a celeron 400, then went to a P2 and then jumped to an AMD XP 3200+ then to a p4-3000 :)

I got my AMD PCs rather late... a donated 2400 and a 1Ghz Socket A 5000 Compaq PC, that runs upto 1.55 Ghz with the 2400 (it's an XP Athlon that in the right bus speed is 2Ghz
