@Billio0986 I was going from Birmingham to Montgomery as part of a day-trip from Atlanta. The Construction north of I-65 was for the I-22 Interchange.
Sweet video. I love that 459/65 interchange south of Birmingham. Thanks for uploading all your Birmingham vids, plus the 2 you shot of I-65 on your latest trip, as it brought back some memories of driving I-65 through B'ham years ago(we're probably talking more than 10 years ago, maybe slightly over 12?).
It'll be great, once the I-22/65 interchange is finished. Plus, I hope Malfunction Junction(lol) gets a redesign someday, I never cared for its design.
Can't even begin to tell how much I take this road, and I don't even live in Bham. Love these videos btw, can't wait for I-22 to be finished for that matter either
@the905sDW Just music I've picked up over the years, I do like rock/pop/r&b too, musically I'm all over the place....if it "fits" the footage I go with it.
I love you for making this video! First off, it's nice to see people like amazing music! Secondly, it is so cool to drive to kick ass music on the freeway. Keep making these!
I need to pass through Birmingham soon and well becoming from Nashville on I-65 through Birmingham to Columbus GA.
Google maps has a route of jumping off I65 N of Birmingham and taking US 31 through B'ham to AL 38/US280, is this a better route then 65 south, 459 east then AL 38/US280 to Columbus. Isn't 31 through the main part of the city? Thanks
@WorshipHammer yes, it is; but I-65 is the main north-south freeway thru the city, so I would take 20/59, then take red mountain expressway. South of the city, US 31 and 280 split, but 280 is often congested, due to Auburn being that direction. If u don't wanna do that, take I-65 to Montgomery, then I-85 towards Atlanta, and get 280 that way
I like the music. That left lane hogging, lol. Regular occurence in the Sooner state. Nothing more aggravating then a hogger, then they decide to speed up. Argh. I find the more erratic drivers where I am, tend to be the new drivers. (18 -- 22) Nice vid Jim.
@Freewayjim That's one reason why I like to watch videos from America, you don't get centre lane hoggers in Europe, nor passing on the outside. They only exception to this that I know is the M25 in the UK, where they pass you from all sides and all over the place.
Wanted to see the directional sign of how far it was to Montgomery when you left 459 (was thinking 76 to 80 miles), but never saw it. Liked the dance music you used for the hilly interstate in the video.
Jesus those drivers make ppl from Mass look polite and courteous.. Talk about a bunch of crazies.. Who hits their brakes for no reason in the middle of the highway.. For a minute I thought I was gonna be sick watching all that weaving.. WTF..
2:17 - That maroon Nissan Titan was doing some driving there, weren't they? Weaving in and out.
3:20 - I hate jackasses like that that speed up when you attempt to pass.
5:10 - Makes you want to get out and slap somebody. >:-(
Nice video, Jim. The portions of I-65 you've driven in this video, I've not driven them. I've driven the portions between Montgomery and Mobile. What a boring drive, except the final 20 miles of I-65 or so in Mobile County.
Ah, let us not forget the slowpoke in the middle lane at 2:10, I swear he was doing about 40-45 MPH.
I agree with on the stretch from Monty to Mobile, From Birmingham to Monty is nothing special either until around Mile 182 where it widens to 6 lanes. but before that, 60 miles of nothing but trees from where this video ends.
Thanks for the videos of Birmingham. It's a unique city. Also, sorry about the drivers. People in Birmingham seem to be very angry and incoherent when they drive. Driving between Gadsden and Mobile, I usually take secondary roads around Birmingham to avoid that construction mess. Everyone and their grandmother wants to live in Alabaster, apparently!
Nice video. They used those reflective posts in the Netherlands as well, but I think they were banned from freeways for workers' safety. They now use metal barriers.
Where were you traveling to and from in this video? What were they trying to do with that construction most of the way through Birmingham?

@prfsnlwannabe The I-22/I-65 construction is rolling along, piers are spouting up and I agree 100% with you on Malfunction Junction.

@thunder489 Thanks, when I-22 is finished I'll probably film the eastern most 10-12 miles of it in a video, 2014 I assume?

Do you have a picture of one of the signs that say "Heroes Highway" ? I would really love to have one for sentimental reasons!

@Dragonfaire Nope, don't have one.

@Papillonmuscogee I'd agree with you on that, apparently they don't teach new drivers what the left lane is for anymore.

Trippy music! Hey btw this guy name uptownbronze started commenting on my channel about how bad my equipment is. Really annoys the shit out of me.

Yeah, he did that to another friend of mine who is experimenting with stop-motion photography videos.
Unfortunately you can't please everyone.

Great video, Jim. BTW, I drove the section of I-65 between I-20/59 and Oxmoor Road back in 1988 when ALDOT was widening that portion.

Thanks, that must have been a joy to drive during construction, uggh.

Yes, surprising he/she didn't get hit from behind, as slow as he/she was driving.

excellent music - obnoxious drivers (you drove fine) great subtle timing in your vids, like at 4:36 - peace ;.)

That gantry at 1:29 is GIGANTIC. Can't remember if I saw it on previous Birmingham trips.
wceagle4life 2 years ago
That seems like a pretty fun freeway to drive. It's curvy and a bit hilly, in parts.
The stack interchange at I-459 is really nice; glad you filmed it at ground level, too.
FreewayBrent 2 years ago
That road is a bitch to drive IMO (From I-20/59 to I-459) if it had half the traffic it does it would be OK but I always seem to labor through it.
