Actually the Laser and Telstar were assembled in Aussie - although later Telstars were imported built-up from Japan, ditto the Laser after Ford closed its Homebush, Sydney assembly plant in 1994...
Yep...correct...but they were essentially Japanese cars sent to Australia as complete knock down kits and assembled in the australian plants. But the cars had some minor part differences apart from the obvious exteriors. I know i tried putting a seat of an early telstar in a 626 of the same era, it used a complete different track to move the seat back and forth. So damn annoying...mind you, the seat would sit on the mazda made track.
Has anyone got the "yes yes yes City Ford says yes more often" commercial...i remember that!..oh i'm so old..LOL
