Can someone explain to me how Ma Chao got to be in the Five Tiger Generals? I mean, yeah he faced against Zhang Fei and Xu Chu. Made Cao Cao retreat and cut his beard. Was compared to Lu Bu. But here's the thing, how did he get into the Five Tiger Generals because there wasn't that much history about his service in Shu besides execution of Peng Yang, and Han Zhong territory.

Dynasty warriors is roughly based on the characters from a Chinese epic called 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms', which is based on historical events from 180 AD to 280 AD. The show is based on it as well. It's a pretty socially prevalent cultural product in Asia, kinda like the bible in the western societies.

@Modernwarfaregeek99 No. Ma Teng was a political prisoner of Cao Cao's. When Cao Cao marched to take Hanzhong, Ma Chao thought Cao Cao was going to destroy him, So Chao and Han Sui went to battle Cao Cao. Cao Cao executed Ma Teng because of Chao attacking him.

Ma Chao lost against Cao Cao and fled to Zhang Lu(Governor of Hanzhong.) He later went and surrendered to Liu Bei who was warring with Liu Zhang.

Ma Chao went to serve Zhang Lu first (at this point in time here) after his defeat to Cao Cao. According to the book (which the movie is based off of), Ma Chao was essentially tricked into joining Liu Bei. Not that it really took much at all since Ma Chao preferred an ambitious and strong leader rival enough for Cao Cao. It was an inevitable fate really and honestly this duel here probably helped Ma Chao and Zhang Fei solidify friendhips.

Lu Bu is strong but not the strongest, Dian Wei is actually the stronger warrior, sadly he died while defending the Cao Cao base entrance when they were ambushed by their enemy and stalled long enough for Cao Cao to escape. A lot of these fights are fake, and its just to make it more entertaining you idiot!! there fighting with swords and one slice and cut off an arm. Its different from mma where they fight with rules and use there fist and legs to fight. One strike with a sword can severely injure someone, and that puts up for a quick fight. First of all, like I said the show is based on the novel. The novel is based on the history. But it's not 100% fact.

The novel over exaggerates alot of things from the actual history and even added additional battles and duels.

One example is this duel right here. Ma Chao & Zhang Fei never dueled since the battle of Jiameng Pass never occurred historically. This duel was from the novel.

Ma Chao wasn't fighting Shu, he was helping Shu in fact.

At that time, Shu belongs to Liu Zhang. Jingzhou belongs to Liu Bei.

So there isn't a Shu kingdom at all back then.

Ma Chao actually came to help the Shu Administration while being a general under Zhang Lu (who is stationed at Han Zhong back then)

Pang De who fought Guan Yu later on did not come due to an illness.

While Ma Chao was fighting Liu Bei, Cao Cao was actually preparing to attack Zhang Lu already.

Ok, historically, Ma Teng was summoned to the capital after having problems with Han Sui.

In the novel, Ma Teng was tricked into the capital and killed by Cao Cao.

Ma Chao himself is a guardian of Guan Zhong area. Which consists of cities like:

1) Tian Shui

2) Wu Wei

3) An Ding

4) Chang An (today known as Xi'an)

Cao Cao later came and caused Han Sui and Ma Chao to go against each other. Defeated, he went to Zhang Lu's faction in Han Zhong.

Liu Zhang, while under attack by Liu Bei, requested Zhang Lu for reinforcements. That explains why Ma Chao was fighting against Liu Bei in the novel.

In the end he was persuaded to surrender by Li Hui.

I'm not sure about the recorded history for this part though. :(

But one thing for sure is that, Pang Tong did not die. In fact he helped Liu Bei conquer Cheng Du.

Later in the Battle of Hanzhong, Liu Bei brought Fa Zheng only, not Zhuge Liang.

I think Wei conquers shu first and Jin takes over the whole country of Wei including shu. And Jin conquers Wu,so it comes one united kingdom. However, Jin gets invaded by Han right after the reunification and China falls apart into 16 different countries again.

When Cao Cao ordered Xu Zhu to lead the infantry to protect the fort, Xu Zhu faced Zhang Fei while he was passing an alley. They faught and Xu Zhu's shoulder was damaged by Zhange Fei's spearing. Xu zhu ran away while his soldiers were blocking Zhang Fei. I think it happened during the war of Han Zhung

The biggest reason (I think) Zhang Fei easily speared Xu Zhu's shoulder is because Xu Zhu was drunk at the time. Also, when Ma Chao fought Xu Zhu, it was basically one on one in the open. When Zhang Fei fought Xu Zhu, it was an ambush, so Xu Zhu was under a significant disadvantage; not to mention that Cao Cao was losing the war of Han Zhung, which could've emotionally affected him. Does this explain your question?

Was this before or after ChiBi? I don't remember this fight... But I know that no one in Wei could defeat Wen Chou or Yan Liang while Guan Yu did easily and Zhang Fei is supposed to be almost as good or as good as Guan Yu.

Also Xu Chu definitely could not have beaten Ma Chao. He knew that himself and so did Cao Cao.
