If You play Steve's recording of Pretty Blue Eyes and Frankie Avalon's Venus back to back I think you'll hear some similarities. They are both from 1959 and both feature muffled guitars and angelic sounding singers in the background, probably
not by accident. I've always loved this tune. Memories of the 7th grade for me.
@owensclock back in the 50`s the common chord structure theme was for instance was cmaj- am-fmaj-gmaj- It was in so many many songs. not just those two.
Whiskyvodka19You speak (or write) English very well. Your punctuation and spelling are excellent. It puts a lot of people who were born and raised here to shame. You have good taste in music too. Steve Lawrence was popular when I was a young teenager.

i'm a collector of music, 45's & anything else. a friend asked me about the pretty blue eyes song from the 60's. the only song i could think of is "your pretty blue eyes" by dave rich. a very nasal country tune. not this beauty.
One of the best songs I've ever heard, I'm only 19 but I love 50's and 60's music, from Little Richard, Buddy Holly, etc to The Beatles, The Who, etc... . I'm from Lima, Peru, sorry for my english. What a great, wonderful, romantic song. Love it!!
@Whiskyvodka19 Hey thats ok my Latino Brother. I'm 32 and love this music too. I been listening to this mucis since I was about your age...actually even yournger. Maybe about 10 or so. I have a huge collection of this type of music on 45's that I have gotten throughout the years. I play those records very often. My favorite have to be the mid 50's to early 50's. I'm a huge Buddy Holly fan and not to mention Little Richard too :) Everytime I hear this music it makes my soul come alive with joy!
@Whiskyvodka19 you are an amazing young person, i`m 60 years old i grew up listening to and playing (i`m a musician) this music. You truly must have lived in another life back in the 50`s and 60`s. great music.
In 1962, I was 12 yr. old . My first girl friend had blue eyes. " I SWEAR " This song was still on the radio. I got the 45 for her , see would kiss me over and over. Wow love at 12............OH WELL
Glad I found this post! When I was 9?, (I'm 61 now), this song was out and our neighbor's daughter was a pretty blond with the bluest eyes! I was sooo infatuated with her and just knew we had to be together forever! This song reminds of those days and has been with all these years. It was the first time I associated music and feelings together. I always liked Steve and Eydie after that.
Saw Steve & Edie in concert a couple of times back in the 90's...they were excellent! What I never understood...and don't to this day...is why he didn't sing any of his 60's tunes like this one...and "Footsteps"...and "Go Away Little Girl"...only sang "Portrait Of My Love"...all great. That being said...having worked in clubs and lounges (never at his level)...it is a singer's right to not sing songs for which they are known...or to speed them up or slow them down...Tunesmith
@tunesmith09 Well, I think I would have been a little disappointed as well had I been with you at this concert, but you're right and I'm reminded of Rick Nelson's lesson in his "Garden Party", but that still doesn't soften the disappointment....Nocaro
Absolutely one of the Best there ever was...so greatly underrated...he made it look so easy. Saws him perform a number of times and he always sold out wherever he appeared...he's the last of an era!
escucho estas canciones, y me hubiese encantado vivir mi juventud en esos tiempos.

So, do you think the high vocal part right before "..saw you from my window, etc", is a voice combined with a violin part ?"

The one thing I have always hated about this song is that it is TOO SHORT!! It is always over way before I want it to be.

@Nocaro To still attract an audience after 20 years
is really great, they have beaten the odds.
When you are at home, you can sing whatever you
want. At a concert, how about making the audience
happy. 70% and 20% songs by other artists and
finally 10% of your new stuff.
Music is more fashion than artistry. Most extremely
lucky singers last for 3 years, the length of most
fashion. Very few transend!
This is a great song~
