  • Where i wrk our milling machine is way better

  • all cast iron heads are usually ground with segmented stones,,,,i always cut almnm-heads due to slight distortions after remvl-and dont forget to re-cc each combustion chmbr aftr,,the more equal they are the smoother the end result,,,,,ALUMATRIX MACHINE SHOP..

  • Good video, thanks. Blew an engine, but the head is still pretty good.

It's interesting to see how the skimming is done. And I am NOT going

to take zzztubazzz's stupid suggestion of just put a new head gasket on it.

I want to fix it right. He's probably the kind of dumbass that has to fix the

engine 3 or 4 times cause he wants to jury rig and cut corners on

    everything. Lol.

  • @ChameleonBilly thanks for the comment, he would certainly seem to have some issues wouldnt he!,if you look at the comments on his channel like what he has been sending to others and what others think of him,I dont believe him to have many friends.......maybe he was not held enough as a child?

  • @zzztubazzz ,obviously borrowing the family brain cell this week

  • @zzztubazzz enjoy your block fuknut

  • I;m not american fuckwit ,go and abuse someone elses channel ,when we want to listen to an asshole one of us will fart.

  • @zzztubazzz do you even no why you should skim the head..?

  • @zzztubazzz fucking dumb troll

  • @zzztubazzz Yea...and i'm sure you have lots of experience in replacing those all the time since you have a slim idea of why you skim the head, you are probably one of the people that thinks injector cleaner actually cleans deposits out of injectors permanently and leaves the fuel system spotless forever. But i guess in this hard economic disaster we need people like you to blow their money mindlessly.

  • I do like that! My bridgeport needs one! Questions tho! I'm assuming you balanced the cutter? Whats it like with an iron head? Also, Would two cutters 180deg apart improve it?

    Cheers kev

  • make it out of steel and drill equal spaced holes to lighten the weight and make one really cheap.

  • Cool!

The old version of the Colchester Bantam 600

We have one at our shop too (its an engineering museum) , a nice machine.

Sadly ours is rather worn, here and there.

Can you give me some information on your gearbox: I suspect that ours is worn or damaged, on motor setting II the gearbox sounds like its gonna explode soon, on speed I its fine.

Have you got the same problem?

The tailstock is also absolutely infuriating on ours, constantly unaligns itself.

Do have any advice on that?

    Thanks.

  • Best flycutter on the planet Earth...any other was born out somebody's ass.....

    meanfazer U da bessess!!!!!!

    Aloha WIDE!!!!!!!

  • ive used that same mill before!

  • Have you thought about selling detailed plans of how to build one of your fly cutting heads? I live in Atlanta GA (USA) I think the shipping would kill me. LOL

  • I read that you used a QC 30 arbor for this, but do you think that you could swing that much mass from the standard R8 set-up? Do the spindle bearings mind cutting that large of a radius?

  • I resurfaced so many heads for so many years, this is giving me flashbacks. Doh!

  • every good shop has wd-40

  • Wow, that's a fly cutter!

  • After many years of machining I'm still yet to find a mill better than the old bridgeport knee mills. There are loads of copies of these machines out there but the copies are never as good as the bridgeport,I'm impressed with your fly cutter, the stock to make that must have cost a few quid!

  • the whole tool was less than £75....the ally cost £50,just the time to add to that, well worth it though, the most profitable tool I own!!......and yes I'd agree the Bridgeports are a far superior machine, this one has chromed bedways which is a nice option........thanks for looking.

  • @meanfazer Us americans figured out how to do something right! I live near briudgeport and have a couple of them. You can pick um up around here for only a few hundred dollars!

  • Hard to beat the TOS FNK 25 good solid machine

  • @silver760

Amen to that. Good to know us Americans can still make a few things right.

  • what do you use for a head holding fixture?

how heavy is that cutter head?

    nice setup you have!!

  • the head is raised on parallel blocks if the bottom surface is not flat and i have a set of anchors for holding the head on the machine bed,,,,not sure exactly how much the cutter weighs but its got to be about 8 or 10 kilo's,Jay

  • If i send my head to you how much will u charge ?

Its a 106 1.6 Rallye head from my track car.

    I'm from B67 area.

  • Comment removed

  • how much would you charge?

  • where you buy that fly cutter?

  • i made it

  • @meanfazer Yeah, and I still say once you see your fly cutter the rest of them are lame...yours is the best.

  • ah yes I recall doing something similar, a long time ago, lots of fun, tahts a beefy fly cutter

  • is this the process to raise compression ratio?

  • you could use this to raise compression and indeed skimming a head to get rid of warp or corrosion is going to raise compression,,,,,,not the primary reason for skimming though

  • I really like your cutter. Do you sell them or have instructions on how you made it?

  • where do you guys get your huge fly cutters? I have a bridgeport mill, and a few warped heads, but my biggest fly cutter is 3/4" I want a 10 or 11 inch, haha

  • I made it.......easiest and quickest way is to use an old flywheel. If you happen to touch it whilst its running it WILL grab hold of your clothing though!!!!!

  • Once you've seen this fly cutter, all others are lame!!!

  • Thanks Steelkahuna, this cutter has now done hundreds of heads and has made loads and loads of money!!!!! the most profitable tool in the workshop.

  • I'm just telling the SteelKahuna truth mate,

cause once I saw your cutter, it didn't seem right to even think about anyother.

Everytime I check out your vid I always feel the same...

  • @SteelKahuna, you should make a video of how you made it, haha, that'd be awesome... sorry I'm new to this

  • woo punto head :D

sending my off to the local machiners and hope they do a proper job : (

  • there is nowt the matter with that.

I have refaced thousands of cylinder heads both cast iron and alloy on a dedicated machine .

    That is spot on

  • What kind of flatness were you able to get against a surface plate/straightedge? Every time I've ever machined something stop to stop on a knee mill, there's always a droop resulting from an unsupported table.

  • sounds like the gib strip needs to be adjusted on your mill !!!!!!! mine are as flat as can be,the bed ways need to be clean and dry for adjustment and then you can lubricate them, some machines are so worn where they are always used only in the center of the bedways that when you adjust them they end up being thght on the ends of the travell

  • This is the vid that told me all i needed to know about your fly cutter. Once I saw your's all the others look lame...you're real good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thanks dude

  • Always wanted to know an easier way to clean up heads...

Did you counter balance that??? Nice tool!!!

  • i do the same for £25

  • Thats an excellent fly cutter, self made I assume?Atleast with flywheel design like that you can balance the tool,it also make the tool safer to use than the ordinary flycutter, you could accidentaly touch that while running and not loose your fingers!

  • The trick is to beforehand use the 'turnaround test' ie long bar and DTI in collet to ensure a close to flat surface.

  • hehehehehehehe

  • Now that is over kill...I love when overkill is used, garaunteed to get the job done.

  • Do you have to remove the valves before it can be skimmed?

  • depends if they are proud of the gasket face or not...same as the glow plugs on diesel heads too

  • I am in TN10 and really interested in learning about lathes and milling.

  • Where in the UK are you?

  • im in the southeast....tn39

  • What is the price ?

  • I charge £25 if the head is bought to me ,if i collect and deliver localy it 35,returned in a couple of hours

  • what sort of attachment is that you are using? and does it just go in the standard R8 collet or is an R8 shank? very cool.

  • mmmmmm I bet you were popular!!

  • It is held down with bed clamps

  • Nice work. I worked in a custom machine shop that dabbled in automotive machining. You should have seen the night I bounced some poor kid's GT40 aluminum heads off the shop floor.

  • Ehm, how do you tighten the head at the mill table? sorry for my english
