  • they dont send them to nyc every year

  • Wow I didn't know they do that. If this is true I think thats extremely unfair. I don't think teams can even do that. I'm almost positive theres a rule, or there should be for that matter.

  • doesn't eastview send their captains to nyc every year to get their dance choreographed? that what their dancers say...so it probably isn't that hard to come up with a new dance when you just have to practice what a professional makes up for you

  • I know Eastview has gone to New York before, but they do not go there to have people choreograph for them, they take classes at studios such as broadway dance center. These classes are open to anyone. It is like going to a camp, but in NY. They choreograph their dances like everyone else.

  • i loved this dance. Eastviews kicks are always beautiful and flawless

  • why is the video unavailable?

  • it's not!

  • The most boring dance Ive ever seen

  • burnsville did win

  • I said they should have won JUST for not wearing those uniforms. I know they won.

  • Burnsville should have won just for not wearing those gold and black uniforms.

  • same thing....

    every year.

    eastview winning.

    watch out though

    teams are coming back!

    you girls are good though

  • Who got first?

  • Burnsville won

  • i think using a slower song is a nice change.. it makes them stand out and they did a beautiful job! AMAZING costumes!

  • great dance. the music would fit better for jazz. oh well, good job it would be hard to dance to this!

  • I was there!! I was facing the AA side though.

  • you girls did absolutely amazingg!

  • like the song, but it should be for jazz. this is high kick. not jazz kick.

  • thats so true this song is too slow, Eastview usually done very well and i think the third place might have been a little to high but really good job!

  • At first I wasn't into this dance, but then I like fell in love with it. The formations are amazing and keeping on time with like no bass must have been hard. And the way they got into straight line is amazing!

  • Ladies on here... EV did a great job, theme or no theme it doesn't matter if there is one or not. Judging is based on the dance not a "theme"... it doesn't matter.

BV was the better team at finals and thats it.

EV is not going to be on top every year nor should they be.

The Lake Conference does well with Kick it was amazing that the top 3 at state were from there.

All teams were great this year at finals! GOOD JOB!

  • There is NO way a team can make up a new dance in the 1 week between sections and state, you are obviously not from MN. Since most of the rule changes in recent years, some teams only can come up with two routines. In the "olden days" we had different dances for every competition including state but we also had from the beginning of September, and all summer to choreograph, things were much different. Sometimes changing your dance doesn't show talent it shows stupidity.

  • i think they were referring to for sections and state so that you had time before sections to work on it also, but the week before state..haha that would be so hard!

  • Dullkey20 said: "I also think it would be very interesting if they made it mandatory to change up their dances for sections and state"

That is where I got your quote from. And considering there is only one week between (for most teams,) I say again there is no way a team can come up with a dance for the competitive season and another one for sections and another one for state! They just don't have enough time. Maybe in the 80s and 90s but not now.

  • I think you misunderstood. I take her quote to mean that it'd be interesting for everyone to have a new dance for sections, which would then be their dance if they went to state. Not a new dance for each.

  • There are some teams who change dances right before sections but it is a terrible idea because the team gets no feedback from the judges except at that one meet. All teams would have bad dances that are not polished, yes all teams would be on the same playing field but state wouldn't be on the same caliber it is now. It would be a terrible completion to watch. The season just isn't long enough.

  • I wouldn't consider this a themed dance whatsoever. I think in regards to "ahead of its time" they mean here in the state of Minnesota, a lyrical kick, is nothing any team has really tried. By doing a dance to such a slow song makes it much more difficult... I also think it would be very interesting if they made it mandatory to change up their dances for sections and state. I think its an unfair advantage for some teams to do new dances and some to work on the same old ones. But...

  • This is for sure NOT a themed dance, that was in reply to a comment about how Eastview started all the themed dances which is clearly not true. I also disagree with this being lyrical. It is just a high kick/precision dance to a slow Phil Collins song, that's it, put on any other song and it would look the same. It was different but not good enough for second or first.

  • Some teams change dances for state and some don't, Brainerd I think should have kept their Wizards of Winter dance, they would have done much better then 7th. But that is the chance you take. LDT would have done well by doing a sped up version of that dance or the original radio version, I see nothing "ahead of their time" about it. So many other teams have done "theme" dances like can-can dances or Tech's "phantoms" one year there were so many 60s dances, Yick! All the teams did great!

  • Also I just watched their Lake Conference video, and to comment on all of those who said they should have struck to their Lake routine for State. I disagree, I am so glad they changed it. Their state routine was much more creative and had better formations. (Not that Lake wasn't good because it was) but I think the lake routine didn't bring anything new to the table (I think they even used some of the same music from 06 with train.)

  • if i see one more dance with the same songs from the jock jams megamix i might flip.. hahaha or dream on from the jazz day.. this dance was my favorite but i liked chaska too b/c the tribal thing was bomb.. pretty sure if youre look at this youll be hard pressed to find an outstanding flaw

  • This Dance Was Amazing... No one was as creative as Eastview... they had a difficult routine and Awesome formation changes!! I guess this dance was a head of its time.. but I hope you all enjoyed this number and stop this damn competive crap of who was better than who... we all dance so lets enjoy that =]

  • It is funny that you say lets stop all this competitiveness, because this is the state competition is competitive. There is going to be opinions on who was better than who, because of its competitive nature. I agree that we should be positive and not so negative because obviously these are all amazing teams, but to say that that we should stop saying who is better than who and then claim that no one was as creative as Eastview is a total contradiction about not comparing teams.

  • Personally I think Eastview was great. Their kicks and formations are amazing. But there were other teams who were just as creative and difficult in their routines. I think Chaska and Elk River (regardless of were they placed) were extremely creative in their approach and really kept their theme through all aspects of their choreography, which is both difficult and creative.

  • Someone put up their Lake Conference kick. It's called "Eastview LDT @ Jefferson High Kick 12-15-07"

  • will somebody put on their lake conference jazz and kick??

  • From an outsider's opinion(I'm from Ohio)I actually thought the routine was pretty good. I would have expected this song to be used for jazz/funk,but they took a chance and came out with a decent finish. I tip my hat to the ladies of Eastview!

  • Sweet! Love the song choice, very different then the usual remix of slow songs

  • Just because the song didn't have a pounding base doesn't make this dance bad. This is an AMAZING dance that is more than anything we have ever done before! The feeling after we dance this is one that no one on the team had ever felt before (better than the feelings after a bass pounding song) because for us, this was so much more.

  • PLEASE SOMEONE GET THERE LAKE ON HERE!! both dances!

  • regardless of what place we got, that was the most amazing dance to perform... ever.

  • anyone of u have their lake conference jazz and kick on?

  • this dance is innovative and something that no one in the state of minnesota has done before. this dance was perfection. great kicks, amazing fomations/ transitions, creative coreography.

and all i am going to say is that how many teams in AAA finals had a theme this year?

military theme last year takes first and pirate dance got third. very interesting eastview is doing something different each year. i'm proud to be an alumni.

  • I would have had them first, yet again! However, I wouldn't say they did anything no one has ever done before. They danced to a song that was on the radio, they wore "normal" costumes. The only thing that really set them apart was the the amazing formation changes and thet they can get their spacing so perfect. Chaska's kick flaws - if they had any were hard to see so they wouldn't have been deducted and Burnsville had awesome kicks too. but neither of their dances impressed me IMHO.

  • Also, I hope you're not suggesting that because Eastview did a theme last year, all the team followed suit this year. This has been going on for decades - long before there ever was an Eastview. It's a trend that comes a goes every fews years. I suppose since the novelty competition is no longer in MN it's a good way for teams to keep the creative juices flowing but it was in no way "started" by Eastview. Army, Pirate, Caveman, Fireman, Robbers, Batman, Tigers, Tin Soldiers...it's been done.

  • Eastview didn't start the trend, but they certainly did much to conflate "themes" and "first-place-ness" in the minds of all ambitious Minnesotan dance teamers last year.

  • in '06 wasn't there a team that had a theme before eastview?

  • a ton of teams did themes before Eastview.

  • i was the team behind them for marking and when the started dancing i was very disapointed but then when i watched it when they were actually performing i loved it. i love teams who take huge risks, it shows that they aren't afraid to try something new.

  • Thank God they change it up every year and don't rest on what they did last year. Yeah it's risky but that is what makes this sport fun. Without pointing fingers at teams I hate seeing teams in the same uniforms, dancing to the same music with practically the same choreography with NO change from year to year. It's boring. This dance was great. One of faves!

  • anyone see fargo high school north dakota's kick dance?? yeah ..

  • Eastview's style is totally like West Fargo. West Fargo has been doing this style of kick for a couple of years now. They won (uda nationals) dancing to "dream on" a few years ago. I don't know if this style will catch on, we will see. I have to say their formations and kicks are great.

And by the way (aibragi) no one is saying they are not a great team, people are just commenting on how this is not their favortie dance of Eastview. That is all.

  • I absolutely love this dance!! The first time i saw it I was like oh my god what did they do?!?! But it really grew on me, song and all. I think the dance is just ahead of its time. It was so nice to see somthing completely different, seriously how many jock jam type mixes did we see this year???

  • but i love this dance

  • it was 8 points between first and third..

  • If you know anything about Eastview it is that they are always experimenting. Jenny is the most creative person i know and has more talent in her little toe than most people have in their whole body. I can tell you that next year teams will be copying them. Besides kick was decided by 5 points between 1st and 3rd. They are still one of the best well-rounded teams in the state. Records will show...Who can claim that they excel at both kick and jazz? Not many.

  • its not that anyone is saying they are suddenly a horrible team- its crystal clear that they are absolutly amazing at kick. but you must understand that everyone was expecting another out of this world, high energy kick dance like the past few years. rmsdt4 is right- the music is decieving. i dance for wayzata, and trust me when i say this- no one would ever doubt jenny's creativity and talent, nor the team's for that matter. it's a great dance, just not what the style everyone expected

  • i think they are still really good though if you watch it without music they look amazing, i think the music was kind of decieving in a way? if that makes sense haha

  • i miss their old style. fun and energetic.

  • agreed

    admire the risk, but disappointing

i'm usually so excited to see them... after this, not so much

  • i admire that they took such a huge risk with this song, but this dance just wasnt for me... i expected so much more from them

  • you expected something different, not something more
