We are supposed to be a Representative Republic - but we are not functioning as one because 90% of the people are not picking the representatives - which leaves them to be picked by MONEY and power instead of the people. The people are the ones who have to be responsible for fixing the mess we are in.
Revolution is in the Constitution - we need to act on it -not discard it.
It really sucks that Obama got into office. He wanted to change things but never really said what it was that he wanted to change. All that I know is that he is ruining our economy and exploiting the green movement. I cannot believe that he came up with a carbon tax (cow fart tax). No living creature should be taxed for their existence on this Earth. Check out hr 875 a house bill concerning organic farming if you think that is bad. I believe that Obama should be impeached. GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!!!
Excellent work. I will say I agree that what he's saying is not very different, it's just how he says it. I think it is a positive thing that we've elected someone who says things in that way, though, because when he betrays our trust and the corporate policies continue, at least it will be clear that the people of the United States wanted something else, but were unable to create change. The more Barack Obama is the same, the more it will illustrate the need for third parties.
I will bet you $5,000 That OBAMA WILL NEVER TAKE OVER PAKISTAN or OCCUPY and set up a government in ANY FORIEGN COUNTRY - like Bush did with Iraq and Afganistan
We will have to wait 8 years to determine this - but if you are going to tall all this CRAP - BACK IT UP WITH A WAGER
What exactly do you do, voteforpeace, aside from make asshat remarks on youtube? How would you even know that I "do nothing else but talk smack"? Actually, all I see from YOU is smack-talk---at least Fleetwood is trying to inform people about the issues. You, however, offer no useful information. You simply call people "egotistical".
Who benefits from that, aside from YOUR own ego? You are a troll and a puppet of the establishment. I won't pursue this further.
Fleetwood - IS NOT informing anyone of anything except what lies he gets from the MEDIA
Obama will not take over Pakistan or any other country the way Bush Took Bagdad - It is a ridiculous reactionary thing to say - AND IT IS MEANINGLESS BECAUSE IT offers nothing positive FOR US PEOPLE TO FOCUS ON
You want real change in WASHINGTON? - the ONLY VIDEO Fleetwood has ever done that is productive - is the recent post election interview with Nader about the plan of action for 2010 -
Obama must have been sitting in on those PNAC meetings in 1998 with Rumsfeld JEb Bush and Karl Rove - That is where the "Bush Doctrine" was born - TAKE OVER THE ENTIRE MIDDLE EAST - that was the goal. But it ALL hinged on provoking IRAN - But Iran did not give us excuss to invade them - so NOW Obama wants to meet with Iran - and have peace with them - NOT INVADE THEM. SO - you are ALL WRONG - Obama wants the complete opposite of the BUSH DOCTRINE
The facts are that Obama has said, multiple times, that he is willing to strike at targets inside Pakistan with or without the approval of the Pakistani government or the UN.
This is both a violation of international law and a continuation of Bush's policy of unilateral military action---it is a continuation of the Bush doctrine. That is a simple, indisputable fact that Obama supporters will not address.
Get a clue yourself. Given that the media is totally fixated on Iran and has largely ignored Pakistan and the unilateral strikes made there already, I would say you are the one being spoon-fed by the media, not I. And yes, the Bush Doctrine involves preemption. Look it up, genius.
Iran is important, but "the region" extends beyond. Maintaining and establishing a presence in Central/South Asia is key to the plan.
Who do you think benefits from haveing us toss around this stupid banter about "the Bush Doctrin" they benefit from it because they see that people like you and Fleetwood - Do nothing else but TALK smack - and you offer no solutions and you have no CLUE
If you were a real patriot - you would go out and do something about it instead of sit here talking meaningless crap - "oh Obama is for the Bush Doctrin - Wahhh" - GET A FUCKING LIFE
The Media is not the one fixated on IRan - you must be watching the White House video briefings - THEY ARE THE ONES FOCUSED ON TAKING OVER IRAN - NOT the MEDIA and definately NOT Obama
and as fara s PAKISTAN -
I WILL BET YOU $5,000 that Obama NEVER INVADES and TAKES OVER PAKISTAN (like Bush did in Iraq and Afganistan) - GET A LIFE FUCKING MORON
Davis points out how Obama brown-noses the Israel lobby while Reps posit his policies will harm Israel.
This is because Obama is an enigma. He's so new on the scene there's no voting record to speak of, no long history of policy positions to review, etc. It's also part of the reason for his success; he's a blank slate' Obama-bots can assume he holds their views. Obama himself has acknowledged this.
And we STILL don't know exactly how far Left he is. A mainstream liberal? Or a Leftist?
Here is an interesting fact: Since 1936, when the Washington Redskins play a home game the night before an election and they win, the party that holds the presidency at the time will win the next election. If the Redskins lose the other party wins the election.
If the Redskins win tonight: Republicans will win the election.
If the Redskins lose tonight: Democrats will win the election.
This Obama gem seems to have been ignored. Here he calls for a "Civilian National Security Force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded" as the "military" security force.
Powerful civilian force as in... what? A parastatal Homeland Security? Obama Youths? Private Stasi? Civilian KGB? What the hell does Obama mean by this? It hardly makes sense.
@ voteforpeace08 - I never asked anyone not to vote. My interest in US politcs is that you export your police state strategems to European countries while waging war on anyone who disagrees with your tyrannical government.
Get this: the world is sick and tired of this imperialist shit-house of yours. You have a great constitution, directly descending from the European Enlightenment, yet you seem to prefer the ways of Hitler, Mussi and Stalin. Good luck - you're gonna need it next year.
So what do you talk about, voteforpeace08? Had Peace been a candidate I'd understand. As it is, you make no sense at all. Calling everyone an asshole says little expect that it's coming from an asshole.
THERE IS NO FRIGGIN PEACE, BECAUSE 100 MILLION PEOPLE DO NOT VOTE - that is what I am so PISSED off about!! What really makes me mad is this FACT - the MEDIA will never tell you that 100 million people do not vote - the politicians will never mention that 50% of the eligible voters DO NOT VOTE - WTF - IT REALLY MAKES ME MAD when NOBODY will tell the FACTS because if they did - if non-voters knew these stats - then things would change
untill this happens, THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO TALK ABOUT
voteforpeace08: You wrote, "if non-voters knew these stats - then things would change."
Make it your business to inform them. Petition for absentee ballots to be mailed to all registered voters who have a record of not showing up for elections. In this day of of computerized public records there's no reason to think that we can't verify addresses, deaths & criminal records that might disqualify a non-voter from getting a ballot in the mail. Do something.
The way in which you display your facts and opinions makes it clear to me you are desperate for anyone and everyone to believe you. And your closing tag line making it seem as if your a renegade fighting for the people, please your just some guy with too much time on a youtube power trip.
You know I might be able to actually accept and or respect the positions you were espousing if you did not present them in a manner that tries to shock the audience. OK so not all of Obamas policies are perfect would expect that of him? He is after all only a man and not divine.
It wasn't wall street, it was people like me in the first million who saw this man in 2004, and said its time our country actually made progress again. I'm not wall street, I'm not even a plumber. I work retail.
And all the people hating his socialism must love Bush's instead. Why anyone only wants the wealthy to profit at their expense without improving their own lives is beyond me. Its not cool aid. Its reason and common sense.
God I love the honesty. So true, I'm not voting for Obama because I can't stand his machine, his zealot followers, his dumbed down lies, his cover ups, his lack of experience, his horrible voting record, his pro socialist policies, his covered up past, his fanatic religious leaders, his disgusting political favors, his shady campaign contributions, his racist wife and best of all his smooth talking way of making the sheep follow him into his den of 'change and hope'.
It is really a stretch to say that obama's foriegn policy is the same as the bush doctrine. This is the problem I have with a lot of third parties, they always stretch the truth to make it seem like the mainstream candidates are all the same. Something that we need to get out there is that currently there isn't a chance for a third party candidate, and voting for one does nothing. You might think you are sending a message, but look at 2000. Did the message get out, did nader gain momentum? No.
I support the left as much as anyone, but I also know that voting third party solves nothing. Our history is filled with third parties who tried to get votes because they thought that spreading their message would bring about a shift, and eventually their movement would catch on. It didn't. All those people who voted for the communist party, what did they accomplish? Did their movement spread? Did they send a "message to those in power"? Voting third party won't make a difference.
Third parties are a source of false hope. It is a paradise that can't be reached. All of these beautiful and principled candidates are unelectable, and that's a plain fact. Real change comes when you elect a democrat or a republican. When that happens, they are now the center, and public opinion shifts. If you have several democrat wins in a row, each democrat gets successively more liberal, and soon candidates like kucinich are mainstream. It's called the overton window, look it up.
So you'd make a vote that doesn't accomplish anything for no other reason then that you would rather vote that way? You'd rather do that then a vote that could actually make a difference? Because as centrist as obama is, if he wins, our country shifts away from extremism, and back towards the left. I don't know what you want, but assuming you're like fleetwood and me, then when the country shifts leftward, the candidates you like no longer seem so extreme to everyone else.
Implying that other votes DO accomplish something? As though we don't have an electoral college in place? It is not my responsibility to vote for anyone. Rather, it is the responsibility of the candidate to earn my vote. Considering that my vote is the only "power" I have in this process, I'm going to make it a little bit harder to get. Politicians work for us, not the other way around. By voting for Obama, I would be sending the message that I approve of his positions. That is not the case.
Okay, assuming you're in a swing state, it does matter, the votes will accomplish something. The electoral college does mean that if you aren't in a swing state, then your votes won't matter, in which case vote however you feel, because nothing you can do will make a difference in that regard. If you live in a swing state, then yes, I do believe it is your responsibility to make the most difference that you can with your vote. In our system (which sucks), that means one of the big candidates.
If we agree that the system sucks, why do you feel that it is your responsibility to go along with it without some sort of fight? That is so very obedient of you. If Obama really wants my vote, he'll represent and reflect the ideas of the much needed progressive movement and stand up for real change. (For instance, a nationalized health care system would be nice). Instead, he's having his followers try to guilt trip me into believing that it is my "responsibility" to vote for him.
I love how you stick "responsibility" in quotes. I would like to stick "obediant" into quotes as well. You can talk all you want about representation and disobediance and real change, but at the end of the day you have a choice to make. There is no middle ground, you either end up with obama or McCain in office. In a swing state, you are either supporting the destruction of the country (vote for mccain), fighting it (vote for obama), or ignoring it (abstaining or voting nader).
You're right. At the end of the day, I made my choice. I choose Nader. Not because I thought that he would win, but because I thoroughly believed that he was the best candidate. You approach the idea of voting the wrong way. You choose the lesser of two evils, meaning you took two steps in the wrong direction, and one step back. I can sleep at night knowing that I didn't give in to the masses. We all have to choose between what is easy and what is right. I've made my choice.
I voted for Nader in 2000 and have no regrets. And I'll never criticize a person just for running.
However, it is pompous for Vigilantesuperstar to assume that a vote for Obama represents giving in to the masses.
We on the left really need to work on not being so goddamn shrill. I'd certainly appreciate Davis Fleetwood more if he wasn't yelling his opinions in his videos.
Keeping Obama honest is fine; casting him as just another neoliberal, capitalist stooge is a tad bit disingenuous.
People who believe in the vote your conscience theory and people who believe in voting strategically need to unite and organize. If people who like third parties but vote strategically would count themselves, they may find that there are enough of them to win elections. In my profile is a link to my site where I'm trying to organize them. It's new, hasn't gotten much attention yet, but I'm telling people about it because I'm excited about the idea. Please have a look and tell me what you think.
as davis said if obama did a kucinich and told it like it was he wouldn't have got his party's nomination. all politicians (in a democracy) have to appeal to the masses which means we get the politicians most desire.
Davis always manages to sift through the msm crap & the political bs and get to just the facts. As a fellow Kucinich reporter, how can I not love this guy?
Good work Davis! Thank you, thank you very much ;)
I think you make some great points Davis. I have a question though if you have the time. If we used the single transferrable vote, would you vote for Ron Paul or Bob Barr?
Good points.... I'm undecided about who to vote for on Tuesday... I detest the Bush preemption doctrine, and I am upset that both McCain and Obama voted for the bailout. Obama is also against reopening the 911 investigation...So...perhaps I'll vote for Baldwin of the Constitution party or McKinney of the Green party....The only reason to vote for Obama is for the judges he will appoint.
Isn't that the point of a president? A leader, not the great decision maker. This is where Bush went wrong, yes he was a poor decision maker, but, he was also a poor leader. Commander In Chief gets last word, the media and the bat-phone. The population gets peace of mind and possibly lack of mind. Double edged sword, I guess. McCain has run a poor campaign comparatively, but should that exonerate him from any chance in hell. No, but it will. I don't think I'm particularly righty either.
The main reason I support Obama: He is better for our environment. C: If we want a future, then we need to clean up our world and use different resources!
how are we going to have a better future with either candidate when the dollar is backed up by nothing such as gold the dollar is just paper bring printed.....our economy will go down the tubes !!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sorry, but I care more about the world we live in than our economy. By 2050, there will be no more polar bears. The bees are disappearing. The oceans are being polluted, as well as our air. The Amazon is getting smaller by the HOUR.
i care about that too but their are people screwing us from the inside that are making things worser!and the last economic depression that occurred in the 1929's was very bad people literally died of starvation,if yo want to help the world you have to start at home
Who thinks anything politicians say during a campaign is at all predictive of what they? will do if elected? It didn't take four months for Clinton to renege on every single campaign promise, save none. If Bush had followed through on his campaign promises from 2000, the Federal budget would be smaller than it was then, and no US troops would be in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Would you like to swing on a star...Vote Nader/Gonzalez '08....and be better off than you are...Vote Nader/Gonzalez '08....so you see it's all up to you...Vote Nader/Gonzalez '08....you could be better than you are...Vote Nader/Gonzalez '08.....
...you could be swinging on a star...Vote Nader/Gonzalez '08....oh, would you like to swing on a star...Vote Nader/Gonzalez '08...and be better off than you are...Vote Nader/Gonzalez '08...so you see it's all up to you...Vote Nader/Gonzalez '08......
The truly outside are all keeping the image of being inside together effectively. The libertarians and left are going to have to get agreeable on some things if we're going to oust these specialists.
We don't have to be terribly cynical about Obama just yet- people are free to give, as regular people, money to candidates.
All these white pricks get off criticizing Barack Obama. Notice they don't talk down the real WarMonger John McCain. Obama has promissed to get US out of Iraq. That is a start. Perhaps he even knows there is no reason on God's Green Earth for US to be fighting the Taliban. Obama is the one best choice on tuesday. Don't listen to these whitebread whores.
Why do we need to bash McCain, we all know what he is. Obama is a liar and a slick one too. You are delusional if you think he is any different than McCain. We have to get out of Iraq by the end of this year or our occupation will be ILLEGAL according to the UN. Don't confuse that with heroism from Obama...
What is with the bashing of Obama? Sure he gonna go into Pakistan. But hes gonna get us out of Iraq first. Hes not gonna overthrow the pakistan government. Hes just gonna bomb the fuck out of al qaeda. He will attack al qaeda, not soverin governments. He will work with local authorities and not overthrough them, he will get approval from the united nations, not tell them to fuck off. John McCain wants to keep up Iraq and overthrow the whole of Syeria and Pakistan.I SAY FUCK THAT AND FUCK McCAIN!
To know and not to do is not to know. To know the truth and not to vote for Ralph Nader is not to know the truth. No more lies and corruption of our government by Corporate America. Ralph Nader has opened the eyes of the American people and ignited a fire in their bellies that will not be extinguished until there is liberty and justice for all. Vote Nader/Gonzalez '08.
Please Bring up THE TAP Pipeline in Afghanistan that we will be surging for when we leave Iraq - Cause the media would never allow us to believe that we are there to help make sure that A Chevron Gas Pipeline from the Oil Rich Caspian basin gets to India -- No we will be there hunting Terrorists..that is it!! and don't ask questions about it either -- it is only reported worth 10-12 TRILLION in total petro products
You are the man! And well informed. The rich White man has 'whited' obama up enough with corporate sponsors, political underhanded deals and forced promises to money and power, he should be just about ready to run this country.....into the ground.
I think these days the best kind of leader Western nations can hope for is one who isn't actively trying to screw us all in the ass. A similar think happened in Australia, we finally got rid our backward looking, small minded, right wing Prime Minister John Howard by electing a no vision appease the masses type.
This is why I never talk politics on the interwebs like this. Because, there are people like you who I would second word for word. It is nice to see someone on the internet who is able to see pass the Obama-Mania!
But, Obama will(maybe)win and all his fans will get theirs. Just another reason why I care not to go crazy about a politician. One day you are shouting their name with love and joy, the next, you are calling for their resignation in spite.
I think that the only one that will carry on the Bush doctrine is John McCain seeing that he has admitted out of his own mouth that he has voted with Bush 95% of the time. So I will be voting for Obama. Nice try though.
I think he is trying to get you to vote for anyone else then those two. For example Ron Paul(he is on the ballot in a couple of states), Ralph Nader, Bob Barr or Chuck Baldwin.
I think Obama is a bit more than all that, and his election will allow some reservoirs of progressivism to be refilled. These reservoirs may come into useful play, if the capital system, the basis of English speaking economies collapses. Think of it in the terms of punctuated equilibrium, where evolutionary changes build up on the micro-level, even if the macro-manifestations are not seen, that is until the time comes. If McC is elected those micro-levels chgs will be in a different direction.
The election is going to get rigged, Obama is going to win bc we dont have a two party system, we have a fascists system, 700 billion back into the hands of the companies who created this economic mess, y not in the hands of honest ppl struggling to keep their homes, bc banks gave out loans with money they didnt have in the first place!
Obama voted against the Iraq invasion at a time when it was considered an un-American act.does davisfleetwood think that doesn't show metal of character against future preemtive invasion? in a Presidental debate, wouldn't it be shrewd to appear strong on defence in attempt to appease right wing fear that your to liberal? on this subject, davisfleetwood is trying to apear a super-independent political guru.
Obama WASN'T even a member of the U.S. Congress when the Authorization for Use of Military Force (2003) was passed and we went into Iraq; he was elected in 2004. Also, Conservatives look at a lot more than just foreign policy, and conservatives aren't even a unified movement (paleo-cons vs. neo-cons). Also "metal" should be spelled mettle.
When you do the research and find the truth Osama is not the enemy behind 9/11...Bush's ppl hired him to send his ppl to use as targets. 9 out of the 17 are still alive in Saudi Arabia. How is that possible? Only if the government is hiding a big LIE!!! Thats why they went into Iraq to destroy it in order to make money rebuilding it. I will not support the lie they tell u on the TV do the research urself and find the TRUTH!!!
If the white ppl let McCain win, the black ppl will uproar...(That Kool-Aid too good!) If Obama win, its all apart of the imperialistic plan for American to slowly take over the world. Google it Zietgiest Addendum! But no lie there will be millions of ppl being disenfranchised and Obama will not bark! McKinney 08!!!!!!
From the Vatican and their policy of actively protecting their child molesters to the US government to Nazi Germany to Genghis Khan, centralized power is always corrupt and illegitimate. No leader will change this. Only power distributed amongst the people, for real, will change this.
Is Obama just another branch of the establishment? Is there a good chance for an industrial hemp {green} revolution under Obama? Would Americans see any real change with an Obama administration?
I do not have the answer to any of these questions.
Come on you two brand name candidates. Keep talking, keep saying nothing, and make us fed up. Talk him down. And him too ! Just flood the media and inundate Americans and maybe that sensory overload will make something snap.
That other checkbox on the ballot, quiet and true. That other candidate who cares about you. Independent, Libertarian, Constitution, Green. Vote them in after halloween. It's their turn now. Vote ! Do it ! You must. It's WE the people, baby !
Most Americans have to learn the hard way. Under a president McCain OR President Obama, people will surely regret voting for them when they are thrown into FEMA Camps. In that case, good riddens right? People were told over and over about what the 2 Corporate Candidates would do. It's all apart of the NWO's Agenda21 Program, to get rid of the ignorant and gullible.
Good comment. The whole process, from 'choosing a candidate',to 'debates' to 'voting',is simply
THEATER for the masses. The "winner" has already been SELECTED. Keep those 'air-breathers' complacent..less trouble for the NWO that way.But oh! Are they ever ready for trouble from the masses,in fact, they're doing all they can to MAKE the American people fight back..All those FEMA camps weren't set up fer noth'n!They WANT us to fight..then the trucks can come, and internment begins..&worse.
yeah but if your a lightworker, then the world is gonna be really fukn great, hope wont even be a word,it will be the way.Its like santa clause to believe me now.I only ever believed we would die of nukes, since they had us hidding under our school desks for a decade.Strange things are afoot at the circle K.
To be fair, what Obama said about Pakistan is if there were enemies hiding there in areas where the Pakistani government has no power or control, he'd send some troops in to go out and flush them out.
That's quite a bit different from attacking Pakistan itself.
"To be fair, what Obama said about Pakistan is if there were enemies hiding there in areas where the Pakistani government has no power or control, he'd send some troops in to go out and flush them out.
That's quite a bit different from attacking Pakistan itself."
True, but in what insane, upside-down world do we live in where it's okay for a country's military to occupy another country? I would love to see how pro-interventionist people would react to having foreign troops in our country.
Are you talking about Iraq, Afganistan or Pakistan now?
Hunting an enemy down in the mountains of Pakistan is a lot like if a foreign government sent a detachment to hunt down assassins or criminals in the old wild west when the U.S. government had 0 control over what was happening in those territories.
I don't think anyone would have minded much. Would have minded bounty hunters doing it even less.
Serving acid test cool aid maybe... Let's face it, Wall Street endorsed Obama, so did Fannie Mae. And for the record, he is not even close in comparison to Martin Luther King who spoke out against the idea of war for profit. He is not as powerful a speaker as King either. King was a real hero not a corporate "rock star"..
Yup, I've been saying that all along. It always kills me to hear someone liken him to Martin Luther King Jr, fawning all over him simply because he repeatedly says words like "change" without ever explaining how he actually attempts to accomplish it.
I guess people are just extremely easy to sway with emotion. There's not a single speech I've ever heard Obama make that has any ACTUAL substance behind it. And to think, we've heard it all before.
I HAD a friend who put in their email signature:"Obama=Hope McCain=Nope!"So,I asked them, how did Obama represent 'hope' to them..they not only could not answer, but violently reacted to my asking this simple question, which they never did answer..,lets just say we are no longer friends. This 'friend' could not break free of her CONDITIONING/MIND CONTROL.Sad.Sad for them.
another great one, davis. i may write you in this november. tis certainly more sane than voting for mcabama and it will count just as much as my libertarian ballot, i am sure.
4 more years in Afghanistan just announced... Imagine that,
Look at the New Boss... Same As The Old Boss. One Imperial Aristocratic Party pushing the AIPAC agenda. Some things never change.

No - the "Bush Doctrine" is NOT what the media feed sheep (like you and Fleetwood)think it is
It is NOT pre-emption!!
IT is to TAKE OVER THE MIDDLE EAST BY FOCUSING ON BAITING THE LYNCH PIN OF THE REGION - IRAN
GET a clue - stop being a sheep led by this type of useless misinformative MEDIA BS
GO do something productive or take a leap of a bridge - we NEED patriotic Americans NOT EGO based maniacs like you and the Fleetwood idiot

Iran is important, but "the region" extends beyond. Maintaining and establishing a presence in Central/South Asia is key to the plan.

JohnR22926 3 years ago
Davis, I know you're smart enough to know that candidates have to say certain things and take certain positions in order to get elected.
FDR the candidate was a corporatist shill. FDR the President brought us the New Deal.
Maybe we should judge Obama on the things he does AFTER Jan 20. Think about it.

THERE IS NO FRIGGIN PEACE, BECAUSE 100 MILLION PEOPLE DO NOT VOTE - that is what I am so PISSED off about!! What really makes me mad is this FACT - the MEDIA will never tell you that 100 million people do not vote - the politicians will never mention that 50% of the eligible voters DO NOT VOTE - WTF - IT REALLY MAKES ME MAD when NOBODY will tell the FACTS because if they did - if non-voters knew these stats - then things would change
untill this happens, THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO TALK ABOUT
voteforpeace08 3 years ago
voteforpeace08: You wrote, "if non-voters knew these stats - then things would change."
Perhaps, then you will find some peace.

No.
BrickSalad 3 years ago
I support the left as much as anyone, but I also know that voting third party solves nothing. Our history is filled with third parties who tried to get votes because they thought that spreading their message would bring about a shift, and eventually their movement would catch on. It didn't. All those people who voted for the communist party, what did they accomplish? Did their movement spread? Did they send a "message to those in power"? Voting third party won't make a difference.
BrickSalad 3 years ago
Third parties are a source of false hope. It is a paradise that can't be reached. All of these beautiful and principled candidates are unelectable, and that's a plain fact. Real change comes when you elect a democrat or a republican. When that happens, they are now the center, and public opinion shifts. If you have several democrat wins in a row, each democrat gets successively more liberal, and soon candidates like kucinich are mainstream. It's called the overton window, look it up.
BrickSalad 3 years ago
I would rather vote for something that I want and not get it, than to vote for something that I don't want and get it.
vigilantesuperstar 3 years ago
So you'd make a vote that doesn't accomplish anything for no other reason then that you would rather vote that way? You'd rather do that then a vote that could actually make a difference? Because as centrist as obama is, if he wins, our country shifts away from extremism, and back towards the left. I don't know what you want, but assuming you're like fleetwood and me, then when the country shifts leftward, the candidates you like no longer seem so extreme to everyone else.
BrickSalad 3 years ago
Implying that other votes DO accomplish something? As though we don't have an electoral college in place? It is not my responsibility to vote for anyone. Rather, it is the responsibility of the candidate to earn my vote. Considering that my vote is the only "power" I have in this process, I'm going to make it a little bit harder to get. Politicians work for us, not the other way around. By voting for Obama, I would be sending the message that I approve of his positions. That is not the case.
vigilantesuperstar 3 years ago 2
Okay, assuming you're in a swing state, it does matter, the votes will accomplish something. The electoral college does mean that if you aren't in a swing state, then your votes won't matter, in which case vote however you feel, because nothing you can do will make a difference in that regard. If you live in a swing state, then yes, I do believe it is your responsibility to make the most difference that you can with your vote. In our system (which sucks), that means one of the big candidates.
BrickSalad 3 years ago
If we agree that the system sucks, why do you feel that it is your responsibility to go along with it without some sort of fight? That is so very obedient of you. If Obama really wants my vote, he'll represent and reflect the ideas of the much needed progressive movement and stand up for real change. (For instance, a nationalized health care system would be nice). Instead, he's having his followers try to guilt trip me into believing that it is my "responsibility" to vote for him.
vigilantesuperstar 3 years ago
I love how you stick "responsibility" in quotes. I would like to stick "obediant" into quotes as well. You can talk all you want about representation and disobediance and real change, but at the end of the day you have a choice to make. There is no middle ground, you either end up with obama or McCain in office. In a swing state, you are either supporting the destruction of the country (vote for mccain), fighting it (vote for obama), or ignoring it (abstaining or voting nader).
BrickSalad 3 years ago
You're right. At the end of the day, I made my choice. I choose Nader. Not because I thought that he would win, but because I thoroughly believed that he was the best candidate. You approach the idea of voting the wrong way. You choose the lesser of two evils, meaning you took two steps in the wrong direction, and one step back. I can sleep at night knowing that I didn't give in to the masses. We all have to choose between what is easy and what is right. I've made my choice.
vigilantesuperstar 3 years ago
I voted for Nader in 2000 and have no regrets. And I'll never criticize a person just for running.
However, it is pompous for Vigilantesuperstar to assume that a vote for Obama represents giving in to the masses.
We on the left really need to work on not being so goddamn shrill. I'd certainly appreciate Davis Fleetwood more if he wasn't yelling his opinions in his videos.
Keeping Obama honest is fine; casting him as just another neoliberal, capitalist stooge is a tad bit disingenuous.
librarianeric 3 years ago
People who believe in the vote your conscience theory and people who believe in voting strategically need to unite and organize. If people who like third parties but vote strategically would count themselves, they may find that there are enough of them to win elections. In my profile is a link to my site where I'm trying to organize them. It's new, hasn't gotten much attention yet, but I'm telling people about it because I'm excited about the idea. Please have a look and tell me what you think.

Is Obama just another branch of the establishment? Is there a good chance for an industrial hemp {green} revolution under Obama? Would Americans see any real change with an Obama administration?
I do not have the answer to any of these questions.

Yes-No-No
That's my opinion but I wish it wasn't so.
bijan84 3 years ago
Yep, Davis is right. But Obama is still less likely to make stupid mistakes that get us into a nuclear conflict with Russia. That beats McCain.

Yet in these meanest of times, 'anybody but McBomb'.
Amazingly it's come to that once again, but you knew that as well as the reality of Obmomba and his compatriots (Zbeakinov Brexinski...)
So.... Isn't it kinda cold in Nov. to be cruisin' the B'klyn Bridge in yer skivvies ~

Well...ya...Obama & McCain are both like that...Imperialists that dream of Toga's, Kilts, & Sheets...Think about that one while I laugh my $*^% off.

Yea Davis true :sigh:

To be fair, what Obama said about Pakistan is if there were enemies hiding there in areas where the Pakistani government has no power or control, he'd send some troops in to go out and flush them out.
That's quite a bit different from attacking Pakistan itself.

"It's not what he says, but how he says it."
