are you sure there is no light signal behind each number board after the math has been given ? I am not saying that is not impossible to accurately train the animal
Hahhaha LOVE this trick. It always stumps people who see it. I also do parrot shows and one of our Macaws does "the math game." To everyone wondering, there is a trick. But it wouldn't be fun if I told you how he the answer comes to him.
It would be nice if they could get the parrot to recognize the numbers visually rather than a distance it has to travel from 10-1. Although this is very interesting. Oddly enough, I was wondering if I could teach a parrot differential calculus, so I googled "can you teach a parrot math". I figure if I can teach a parrot differential calculus, then animals, or birds at the least, have a sophisticated thought pattern. rofl.
Yea, there's definitely no cheating here. Birds are extremely smart, smarter than you think. They have the mentality of a five year old. If you can teach a five year old math, you can teach a bird math. So quit all the comments about "cheating".
After training my own parrot (8 years of training), I am confident to say that my parrot has mastered the letters of the English Althabet and the Indian Althabet, including anwers to the 32 Capital Cities of the World. He hold many secrets and is amazing.
Therefore with all the above comments- l disagree that any cheating is done here. Muse5-you are right.
i was thinking about the light.Watch the last problem by the little girl, when the number goes down you can see a little part of the card flashing....might be studio lights reflecting though, but its tilting.

The "light" that you think that you see, is the brass hinge on the number plate, not some blinking light for the bird. Stupid Idiots.

They rig each card with either a light or some little vibration. The bird goes after the vibrating or litup number. At least that's what I heard.

maybe while she talks so much, she kinda softly pinches/touches the answer with her thumb on the paws of the parrot.
