  • Tolle,interessante mechanische Uhr.

  • oh wow i see, there is no pallet fork. direct balance to escapement wheel contact. cool

  • holy crap i have never seen a tourbillon and balance wheel that huge.

  • @Ichvyenichalster

This is a large version of a marine chronometer escapement.

  • @TTompion why is that not as common in more modern terms as far as pocket watches? I can understand some lack of reliability, but it seems a lot more simple. Pardon my naivety, I'm only 15.

  • @Ichvyenichalster

It is used in some rare pocket watches because of its timekeeping qualities.

  • @TTompion Wait, timekeeping qualities? Doesn't the lack of pallet fork lower the alternations per second, or accuracy?

  • @Ichvyenichalster: The pallet fork is replaced by a detent. It only gives a impulse to the balance at one point in a full cycle. So it's more detached from the "pallet fork". This, combined with the cylindrical hairspring, makes the balance more isochron. Think of a frictional rest escapement, like the cylinder escapement, and compare it to the "more detached" modern swiss lever. A huge improvement in timekeeping, right? So a chronometer escapement is a bit "more detached" than the lever.

  • Interesting escapement I love skeleton clocks!

  • How old and what is the value of this probably unique clock?
