I've sung both Basilio and Bartolo in Barber. Neither are bass parts in the sense of Sarastro or Fiesco. Bartolo is too high for almost any modern bass - and Basilio is even higher. In the original key of D this aria goes up to two climatic high F#s. It has dozens an dozens of high Ds. It is only a bass aria because it is always transposed down.
I am agree but it's original to see songs, sorry ARIAS, in other languages. And I am sorry the basses, low, can't sing top E as good as baritones. SO for you I can say that i'ts for Bass Baritone
Es cierto que la ópera debiera de respetar el idioma del país en que fue compuesta, pero en el caso de este bajo, valoro mucho su histrionismo y carisma, los cuales no siempre están presentes en los belcantistas que interpretan "la calunnia" en buen italiano.
I'm sure you are. It was a joke, he looks a little like an English actor comedian called Marty Feldman. No disrespect intended to your excellent Bass.
I looked Marty Feldman's photo. You are right, the two big artists resemble really each other. :) You know, József Gregor died recently, and for us who liked and respected him infinitely, any joke concerning him is painful yet. You understand certainly my "hiss".
A HA HA HA !!!!!! HE IS GREAT

Une fois passée la surprise de voir cette mélodie chantée en hongrois, on ne peut qu'admirer les immenses qualités de comédien et la voix de Gregor

Cantada em húngaro, fica comprovado que Rossini e seu libretista são universais.

You sure it's not Marty Feldman?

Absolutely sure. Hungarians are undoubtedly able to identify the greatest Hungarian bass.

... and Hungarian opera in Hungarian: there is a nice try from Placido Domingo on Youtube by the way.
Otherwise I disagree with you. At the time of this recording it was normal to sing opera in your mother tongue and not only here in Hungary.
