@videotrini El ángelus tradicionalmente se recita todo el año en la mañana (6:00 AM), al mediodía (12:00 PM) y en la noche (6:00 PM), excepto durante la pascua que se reza en su lugar el Regina Coeli.
caraocruz99, the Angelus goes back at least 1,000 years (and in its roots, even earlier): it was a way ordinary people could join in the prayer of the monasteries at morning, noon and evening, the most important times for prayer: a way to sanctify the whole day! (So the Angelus has its origins in the Liturgy of the Hours.) But there is no comparing the value of one prayer against another: The Angelus is completely drawn from Scripture, and the Divine Mercy chaplet from the Liturgy.
May be this question has been answered, is the Angelus a Catholic prayer tradition? This is my first time learning about it, which I like it. I love praying the Divine Mercy Crown at 3pm as it is the nona hour. What is the spiritual and divine power of the Angelus vs the Divine Mercy Crown?
Dear Sisters, I would like to know what is life like living in a non-catholic country? I have seen the lovely pictures of your sisters profession of faith and thought how hard making that life choice must be in a country where all temptations and easy life are at hand.
It's nice to know you recognize that our country is not Catholic! All the more reason to give great importance to the "little" prayer forms that can permeate the day with the truths of the faith...
I believe (just as others seem to think otherwise) that it is good a right to pray through the Mother of our Lord. It is not praying to her, nor does it deminish God's power to ask her to pray for us. None of us is worthy to pray to our lord for our own will... For all is his will... but we may find comfort in Jesus' mother, just as we find comfort in our own mother!
Please allow me to interrupt here, and give you my humble opinion, haroldsand9 : sometimes poor people, poor in spirit that is, feeling their total sinfulness would be uncomfortable to address their request directly to the King of Kings, our Lord Himself. So they would ask (in prayer) the good Mother Mary to assist them, and to pray the Lord in their behalf. That age old tradition has been accepted as valid, the rest is history.
There could be a certain confusion between these stories, particularly for your 2nd graders.
The othe two Evangelists don't seem to think it important enough to mention.
Then again are we also to incorporate into our lives "an eye for an eye" or "His blood be on us and on our children" or do we pick and choose how we live our faith?
Of course, the Evangelists have to justify Jesus as the realisation of Old Testament predictions. unlikely birth announcements start in Genesis 16:7
I don't think the directive to pray always will ever be 'out of date.'
And the Angelus is a prayer in thanksgiving for God's wonderful generosity in bringing the Incarnation to fruition. It would make sense that he would love for us to show our appreciation.
We, Catholics, simply pray to Mary as an intercessor to her Son and to God. In Cana, at the wedding feast, they asked Mary to intercede to Jesus about the wine. Besides, don't you like to pray the bible? The "Hail Mary" prayer is right out of the bible. When Mary went to see Elizabeth, how was she greeted by her? Check it out. God bless.
If we can ask our fellow Christains to pray for us or for those who are ill, why shouldn't we be able to make the same request of those who have entered heaven. Mary is clearly prominent among thsoe and is rightly asked to pray for those who we also pray for. We continue to pray to God through Christ but to have others, especially saints praying at the same time is even more powerful.
The intention was not that it is ore powerful than Christ, which I accept as heresy. However, to have more that one person praying through Christ is indeed more pwerful and my contention was that in asking others, whether here or in heaven to join us in praying through Christ then those prayers are then more powerful. I did not suggest that asking others to join one in prayer was an alternative to praying directly through Christ as this is my practice, and I believe that they are doing the same.
If it is Christ's will for us NOT to be healed, why should we then pray to the dead. Surely Christ's power is unlimited. To say we should pray to the saints because it adds power is simply not true!!!
The Holy Bible, which is the inspired Word of God, is the basis of every line of this prayer. Scripture says, "All generations should call me blessed". Therefore, if you are a Christian, you are required to call Mary "blessed". Also, it was the angel who said, Hail Mary. Angels are God's messengers. Also, St. Paul tells us to, "Pray without ceasing". Prayer at morning, midday, and evening are logical extensions of this instruction, no?
"Pray without ceasing' means without ever stopping. Do you do that? Even in your sleep? If you don't, you're not obeying what St Paul said or you're interpreting his "inspired" words.
Does the Bible tell us what "blessed" means? Is it a good translation of the original or did the Angel say it in English? Did the word have the same meaning 2000 years ago?
("Awesome", for instance, did not!)
Quote chapter and verse where God says angels are his messangers please.
Sorry, but I can't make sense of your reply. For example, I have second grade students who could infer from biblical text that Gabrielle was delivering a message. Look at scripture and you will see that all generations should call Mary blessed.
Matthew 1:20 a nameless angel appears to Joseph -dont repudiate Mary -the Holy Spirit is at work -call the child Jesus -call the child Emmanuel Luke 1:11 Gabriel appears to Zaccharias -call your unexpected son John -the Holy Spirit will work in him Lk 1:26 Gabriel appears to Mary -blessed art thou among women -the Holy Spirit will make you conceive -call your son Jesus -he is son of God Lk 1:42 Elizabeth declares Mary to be blessed among women
Wow i did not know Eve gave birth to a male child and the dragon pursued her. Plus she was given two wings to fly after clearly indicates in Genesis 3:24 he drove men out for being deceived by the serpent. How could God contradict himself curse men drive them out then Give Even wings to fly? Rev 12 talks about Mother Mary not Eve.

REV 12 is about Mary Mother of God giving birth to One that would rule the nations with a rod of iron- Jesus. It is not about the ONE HOLY CATHOLIC APOSTOLIC CHURCH. Why? bcause the Church does not give birth to Jesus, (that would be a silly idea) but God Incarnate gave birth to His Church. It is a historical fact. He didn't leave a written down new testament. He left His Witnesses, His Apostles-Peter and the Apostles . The Eleven. to teach , baptize evangelize and to lead. Those Eleven
Those Eleven were the first Pope and bishops. They had power that was not given to anyone else. To forgive sins. Matt 16;18. Matt 28;18 all authority has been given to me. Go therfore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, TEACHING them all to observe all I have commanded YOU; and, behold I am with you always, to the end of the age. If they didn't the Church would be as divided as 30,000+ denominations out there.
@haroldsand9 more than praying TO the Virgin Mary, we are asking Her to Pray FOR us, sinner, now and at the hour of our death, amen. To get us closer to Her Divine SOn Jesus Christ. Indeed, She is asking Us to pray TO Her Son, Jesus Christ, to repent and convert To Her Son Jesus Christ. I invite you to learn about the Fatima Messages and Medjugorje Messages. They all involve about repentance and conversion TO Her Son Jesus Christ. Such messages came from the Virgin Mary, whom God sent Her.
Also, Pray without ceasing refers to pray as much as you can because Satan is on earth and is always around you to make you fall into sin. Understand the scripture they all are in PARABLES FOR GOD'S SAKES.
Jewish tradition influenced the prayer customs of the church, especially prayers like the Liturgy of the Hours ("seven times a day I praise you..." Ps 119) and the Angelus (cf. Daniel, who prayed morning, noon and evening).
@1401JSC My understanding is that Catholics ask Mary to pray for them before the throne of God (as you would ask a minister to pray for you) but by no means do they WORSHIP her.

Can't find the hymn anywhere online. Pm me please to my account @ my user-name as I'd like to hear it again. Thanks,

They actually used to make them... Beautiful mantel clocks made in Switzerland. I have scoured the ends of the internet for any available today, but to no avail. :( If you know of any, please let me know!
It's sad to me that most parish churches no longer sound the Angelus here in the states. We have to rely on the presence of mind to check our watches to pray. I wish they made an Angelus clock that chimed at 6 12 and 6... Muslims can buy clocks that are intoned by a digital recording of a muezzin, but unfortunately we have no similar device.
I comment voted wrongly on your message, I read it as it being used as a ring tone for a mobile, then got that it is a way to be reminded to pray it, so sorry, cant take the rate on comment down, hoping this makes up for it fstrath
Beautiful prayer. I love the fact that the Singing Sisters complimented our Muslim brothers and sisters for praying so devoutly. We need more demonstrations of love towards our spiritual brothers and sisters in these times of confusion.
My Dad was born when the Angelus bells were ringing. He died on the feast day of Our Lady of the Angels (Aug.2)which was also exactly 4 months after Pope John Paul 2 died. His funeral Mass (first Saturday) concluded with the Angelus bells. Dad loved the Angelus and I love it too. My 3 little ones, ages 4-6-8, all know it and we say it together everyday.
Remember during the Easter season we replace the Angelus with the Regina Caeli.
Beautiful, beautiful. And how serendipitous. I was driving home Wednesday from a brutal day lobbying against a cloning bill in Delaware. We were grumbling about the anti-Catholicism we had heard in legislature from the pro-cloning folks. I said, "Please, let's pray! I feel a need for prayer." And Leon, who has about 20 years on my 57, said, "Let's pray the Angelus." Which we did. First time I had prayed it in years. And now this! Thank you, sisters!
Awe inspiring, reminiscent of my catholic school years- Whoever was responsible for removing this and other pious practices, threw out the baby with the bath water.
I don't believe any "one" was responsible for this practice being dropped; it is more of a "sign of the times" that are so focused on frenetic activity that to take a pause for contemplation seems like a waste of precious time.
Today a woman came in the center and asked me for an explanation of the famous "Angelus" painting. We have the holy card versions. I told her that before there were watches there were church bells that called the people to remember God in a special way 3 times a day. It gave a prayerful rythm to their life. This woman is involved in a prayergroup and she took a holy card for everyone in the group! Thank you for taking the time to create this lovely program!
Please use the video and every other means to promote the restoration of the Angelus as a way for Christians to grow in their faith in the Incarnation!

@videotrini *Oración

Didn't Jesus ask us to pray to Almighty God, not to hail the Virgin?
Initially, the midday prayer (not required by Jesus) was for crusaders who had left for the Holy Land. It's all a little out of date, no?

You can go to the EWTN web site for the Regina Caeli prayer. We say it in place of the Angelus from April 8, Easter Sunday to May 27 this year.

I posted a pretty simple version of the Regina Coeli; hopefully by next year there will be something better in place!

This is Great! I remember in my old school we said the prayer everyday at lunch time. Brings back sweet memories. Thank you! God Bless!

On the feast of the Annunciation, we prayed the Angelus after the 5:00 Mass.
