  • I prefer Enya's version.

  • Enya did this song originally. And the title is "Marble Halls", not "I Dremt I Dwelt in Marble Halls". I still LOVE this though.

  • Her Voice is very Rich and velvety. Very angelic

  • She has such a beautiful voice.

  • CHILLS!!!

    like really

    I'm all tingly and goosebumpy

    someone get me a blanket

  • There are so many singers who try to sing this and so few who get that rapid note change right: 0:25, 1:13, 2:07, 2:41

On top of getting that just perfect, M'eav has a lovely, angelic voice!!

  • I dreamt I dwelt in marble hornets once. o-o

  • Why are you all such a load of prats? Its' a song which means one thing to one person and something else to another. Get a life you pseudo critics

    Ars longa vita brevis.

  • ok!, i just fell in love =)

  • Hey, I don't think it's fair to say "original members". Celtic Woman is more of a music project that soloists join than a singing group with permanent, that's why they change singers so often. I liked the first lineup, yes, but the recent ones bring their own touch to the music.

  • I would like to see the haters sing that song as well. As a soprano singer, I can attest to the fact that songs like this one are decptively simply and require a lot of a) breath control and b) the higher the notes, the harder it is to make it "emotional".

  • I'm looking for this exact version but I can't find this song on Amazon's celtic woman CD (2005). There are 2 other versions by Meav on Amazon but they're different. Any help please!?

  • @vunewt This song was released on some sort of EP, but it's sort of hard to find. I used youtube downloader to download this one.

  • This is embodiment of the genre; what makes the mythology and legend of ancient times come life.

  • Then let's pretend that Enya is an amazing soprano. Yeah right.

  • ouuuuuuuh sweet voice.... T.T

  • they have angel's voices....ridikulus.

  • This version is OK - Much better than rap or broadway belting. She has a nice sweet voice. Whoever said she sounds operatic has never heard a real opera singer. This piece is allowed to sound operatic - it's from an opera. Doesn't anybody find it odd that a hot blonde in a low cut dress sounds like a 6 year old? If she'd open her throat and breathe from the gut, she's sound like a real singer. Enya's verision is nice, too, but 98% of the "atomsphere" is just electronic enhancement.

  • @richiedrr

"Doesn't anybody find it odd that a hot blonde in a low cut dress sounds like a 6 year old?"

No, I don't find it odd at all. I focus on her singing and not on her dress/ body like you obviously do.

This song is about childhood memories and dreams. The song was originally written for a young female singer with a high voice range (soprano). As far as I'm concerned, Meav performed this song perfectly.

  • @richiedrr

You have to remember most people have never actually heard a true operatic voice (barring J.G. Wentworth commercials), and the very idea of deviating from the modern 'mainstream' style of siging is an intensly frightening prospect.

  • This is nice.. but I like Enya's better :/

  • Enya? Enya who? Meav OWNS this song as far as performing it in front of a live audience!!

  • @William2020a I agree. Enya is nothing compared to these women. Her voice is too... weak and emotionless.

  • @ScarletIV ... and ESPECIALLY emotionless :)

  • Alex and Lynn are gone as well. they have only one new singer so far Lisa Lambert, Alex wanted more time with her family. she has kids. The schedule that Celtic Woman has is a very grulling one. I think some people can't handle the strain.

  • That first note.. oh my god.. I was immediately entranced by her beauty and.. just.. her.

  • @MsHenryTheGreat I specifically prefer her voice because it IS operetic - high and sweet and dreamlike.

  • A good example why Enya is Enya, unmatchable in her soulful angel voice. This girl sings decently but without any heart whatsoever and too much operatic, she ruined the song for me...

  • @Ruijor I speifically prefer this singer because her voice IS operetic - high and sweet and dreamlike.

  • @Ruijor I love Enya's version as well - she does such a dreamy version of this song. But Marble Halls was intended for an operatic voice. It's from the Irish opera The Bohemian Girl by Wallace. Still, I love the way it lends itself to so many interpretations.

  • @candlemoss Sorry, William Balfe is the composer!!!

  • Does anybody else grin at 1:29? Maybe it's just me, but I can almost hear the love and pride in that sentence. Meav fit into Celtic Woman's 'family' like the last piece of the puzzle. She was part of Celtic Woman, and made it what it was. A puzzle isn't the same without all of its pieces. You can try to fit another piece in, but the original puzzle is ruined. They each had a brilliant and unique beauty in their voices. I love the new girls, but the original members will always be the best to me.

  • @OriginalRoozah I feel Exactly the same way!!!! My favorite has always been Chloe! <3 She has the voice of an angel!! :D Meav is my second favorite.... But a very close second! :D

  • @Raindrops9395 My favourite has always been Lisa, but they're all such lovely ladies. They command respect. <3

  • @OriginalRoozah I agree completely. Nowadays Celtic Woman is just good, but Celtic Woman with Órla and Méav was perfection. 5 totally different women with different unique voices, (yes, Máiréad's fiddle counts for me as a voice ^^) and still an harmony. That's what made it so special. I enjoy the add of new girls, but it's not the same for me anymore. Certainly now Lynn Hilary is gone who earned a special place in my heart.. She did a great job in filling Méav shoes..

  • @TheGeantrai Don't worry, Mairead's fiddle IS a voice. ;) It's unfair to call it just an instrument. I loved the Slane Castle lineup, with the original girls, plus Hayley. All of their voices, as you said, had different, unique qualities, but when put together, created heavenly harmonies. Yeah, I was sad enough when Alex left--as I'm an alto, she won a place in my heart--but I cried when Lynn left. She has such a gorgeous voice, and she can take it from Carolina Rua to My Lagan Love with ease

  • so.peaceful.......... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Wow...

  • Beautiful voice, but I think I prefer Enya's version.

  • my gosh i love her voice

  • I have to admit that this was not one of my favorite songs sung by Meav. However, after hearing her sing this at Carnegie Hall I changed my mind. Her voice blew me away. It was an unforgettable performance. Every song she sang was amazing!

  • Gotta admit, I like this better than Enya's, and I am a huge Enya fan.

  • that's really pretty

  • I miss meav too. I do't think celtic women is too bad, but I definatly get what people are saying.

  • I miss Méav so much. Ever since she left Celtic Woman, none of the song that Celtic Woman sings touche my soul. Only Méav and Orla able to do that. ;-;

  • How beautiful and soothing! As I listened, I could feel my my stress level dropping. considerably.

  • Anyone think Meav kinda looks like Cristina Cole?

  • Magical...!

  • I love Meav's version and Enya's version.

  • When I first heard this song in the Laurel and Hardy film, The Bohemian Girl on TV in the early 1960's I never ever forgot it. It has always remained clear in those deep recesses of the brain that magically hold onto treasured things that made an impression upon us so many years ago. This performance is very satisfying.

  • Meav is BEAUTIFUL

  • I've listened to this one which is live and then I heared the recorded one, and I have to say that the live one is way better and a lot more beautiful than the recorded one, but the recorded version is still lovely. I love Meav and I wish so bad she was still in Celtic Woman

  • Beautiful and moving. Her voice is like the finest crystal. Liquid crystal.

  • How can anyone's voice be so perfect and so beautiful and so angelic?

  • Most excellent song and very relaxing!

  • @xxAtlantianKnightxx so true. Meav is obviousl loveing what she is doing and i am glad too. She is so pure and i absolutely love her and her voice. i'm sad she left celtic woman but she won't be forgoten. I love you Meav

  • How can I pick who I like better when Enya and Meav are both my most favourite singers in the whole world?

  • Meav is truly my second favourite . My head has just spun around 100 times to pick between Lisa and Meav. Now I think they're all my first favourite because their singing make me shiver in the melodious words. Lisa sends her warmth while Meav deliver her angelic language to the audiences , including me.

And Meav had expanded her wings in this song. Beautiful

This is the beauty of true music.

  • I have listened to several performances of this song being sung, and each time I have discovered something new about it's meaning. Every new revelation brings me closer to understanding the heart of the woman of my dreams. This performance was truely awesome. She is a true artist, giving me a better perspective of the female heart. Thank you, Celtic Woman. =)

  • So awesome - one of my favorite songs just because she sings it so well. I wish she'd hold that high note just a little bit longer just because it's so beautiful.

  • no need to compare just pick the one u like to keep listening wth for the rest of your life...

  • I miss Meav. :< Celtic Woman just isn't the same without Meav or Orla. I don't mind Lynn or Alex, but I miss seeing the original members together.

  • @ShinobiSasukeUchiha i agree, who else left the group?

  • @angelsunny8 Meav, Orla and Hayley left, and Alex and Lynn have replaced them.

  • @ShinobiSasukeUchiha Thank you Shinobi. Celtic woman carries their spirit and very soon will enter the stratosphere with their spirits and so much more, all intact.

Get ready because Celtic Woman is about to become something a million tiimes

    more to this world !!!

  • @ShinobiSasukeUchiha

yeah, it was my dream as a little girl to watch them sing and now it's too late :(

  • @sweetchuckaluck

You sound like one of those weirdos that stand out in the street screaming out religious nonsense at passerbys and yelling at the sky.

  • @mudkipsie ok. That's fair.

  • @sweetchuckaluck You do have the most unusual comments I've ever read - but there's sure nothing wrong with that. Keep it up!

  • @IntoTheMystical I do like the feeling I get reading your

    comment. Thank you so much.

  • @ShinobiSasukeUchiha Me too, I also really miss them.

  • @ShinobiSasukeUchiha I absolutely agree. I got all sad when they left. :(

  • @ShinobiSasukeUchiha I completely agree. Orla had such a beautiful voice, and Meav's voice took you back to the olden days of Ireland... just as long as they don't lose Mairead or Chloe I'll still be a fan. <3

  • @ShinobiSasukeUchiha I agree but now Alex has left, I heard?

  • @liuyulian98 i checked their site. yes Alex left and now its just Chloe, Lisa, and another Lisa

  • @freed456t

    and Mairead

  • very good.....Excellent...!!!!

  • I love both version of this magical song. Meav has a beautiful voice and I love the instrumentation here while Enya's performance is full of deep emotions, it is more touching. Enya also holds some high notes longer than others who performed this song and this makes her version more classic.

  • technically Giz..you are right..it has nothing to do with the person...it is in the mixing...

  • I am a music lover and I also work with audio visual (recording and effects equipment).

On most every album of Enya's, several effects are added to her voice such as flanging, digital delay, digital reverb, phasing, and digital chorusing. This is used in overdubbing her to give a more ethereal sound as opposed to a flat field at the microphone.

They use a very small amount of reverb to compensate for the location and being outdoors usually. There are no other effects used.

    I

  • Giz, You're right. I listened to Enya's version of this song and it is layered with Delay and reverb... Noticeably so. I prefer the mixing on Celtic Woman's version, the level of reverb is far more natural sounding.

That, and I really really like Méav's voice! It's as Beautiful as she is.

  • Angels on earth.

  • The biggest difference between Enya and the Celtic Women is that Enya's recordings rely HEAVILY on digital effects, over dubbing (multi-tracking)

"Celtic Women" performs live with no tracks.

  • The biggest difference between you Gizmologist and real music-lovers is that they can enjoy the music without depreciating other artists. Your comments are based on false stereotyped phrases instead of your own musical experience. The Enya track contains a crystal clear solo vocal, that is just as perfect as Meav's. I don't know what kind of overdubbing are you talking about. One can prefer this version or the other but everyone should highly respect both performers.

  • It's so pure and inspiring, this song is the kind of music that makes us to fly

  • These women are among the closest things to a chorus of angels that we have here on Earth.

  • I can't agree with you more!

  • I love both Enya's and Meav's versions of this song. For those of you who keep hating, please stop. You don't have to like this, but posting things like that where the fans are just causes drama. It's pointless, and nobody wants to deal with it. Plus, bashing God's angels (Celtic Woman & Enya) is a no-no.

  • She is a beauty and she sings like the angels, no doubt about it...

Too much beauty in one woman...Bellísima...!

  • this song is old as balls. enya doesn't own it.

  • how could anybody even think that celtic woman is copying off of enya? Enya didn't write the god damn songs, and some of them were sung first by celtic woman, so stop sayin that they were stolen or copied from enya.

  • It's true that enya didn't write this song, but celtic women only did two of enya's songs & enya did write those songs & perform them first. I suppose people just interpret this song as enya's because she's more recognizable than an opera. Celtic Women do covers of other songs by other artists. Anyway, I think Meav sings this beautifully, and is a good version of this song.

  • Meav imo is the best singer of the troop, but all of their styles are unique to the group and they are all great at what they do =D

  • Too bad this isn't Enya's song. But was written for the operetta The Bohemian girl

  • I think Meav sings this better than Enya! In a different way of course. This is coming from a HUGE Enya fan! First of all, they lack the time in a studio that Enya has. Second of all, as darlingscarling said, Enya didn't write the original song. Lastly, you can't compare two COMPLETELY different musicians.

  • Absolutely breathtaking!!!

  • She IS an angel.....

  • angel not angel :0

  • she looks like an angle

  • i love her eyes

  • My mother used to sing this song when I was a child. I just happened to think of it, did a search, and...well, I struck gold!

  • me gusta mas con Enya!

    VIVA ENYA!!

  • This is on Meav's solo album, Celtic Woman presents Meav. It is one of Meav's favorite songs to sing....after Dulaman which has always been her favorite CW solo number.

  • This is a lovely song, sung beauitful by this singer. The song of course is from, " The Bohemian Girl, by Michael William Balfe. First performed in 1845 at Drury Lane, London. Balfe was born in Dublin and there is a Street there named after him.

  • So angelic!!! Gives me chills.

  • OHEMGEE!!! in my long time of listening to the celtic woman here on youtube and on their two cds, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I AM EVER HEARING THIS SONG, and for that point, this is the first time i even knew this song existed???!!!

  • Me too ;)

  • Orla (Orlagh) is my favourite singer in the group.

  • Comment removed

  • you wouldn't think butter would melt but still nice though

  • correction: Celtic Woman.. :)) I really love them... More power!

  • her surname translates as Mulcahy in English.

  • Thanks for that info. I always woundered What Ní Mhaolchatha was. How do you pronounce it. That is the Million Euro question.

  • as 'Knee Mwahle Kha Ha'. 'Knee' means daughter of... so I think you can translate her name as daughter of Mulcahy

  • close enough - i'd probably say

    Knee Mwale Kha Ha -

  • <<< no. 1 fan of celtic women

  • no you're not. I am. I LOVE CW. they're the best group I've ever heard. This is one of my favourite songs Méav sings.

  • maybe...but you didn't even spell it right. lol. it's Celtic Woman.

  • Voice of a fairy.

  • yeah, i like to listen to this song she has a angel's voice heavenly i think she's married that guy is so lucky. i'm a girl kay i just like her singing got it

  • I am a fan of all of them, which has nothing to do with the range of each individual voice :)

  • As far as I feel Orla is more a mezzo than a high soprano, but on the other hand she will certainly be capable to fill this song with life after it is transposed.

  • such a difficult melody .. sung tone perfect and with feeling ... brilliant !!

  • I wish they would do a production of The Bohemian Girl, she would have to be the lead.

  • Meav Ni Mhaolchatha is a World-class vocalist! There aren't a dozen people in the entire world capable of doing what she does!

  • I would love to hear Orla sing this song. I think she would do an amazing job.

  • I think the soprano voice from Méav hits the song better, the reason I do not like Enya's version..

  • psh, you're just jealous that you can't perform as well as she can...so there.

  • I love her voice. Will she be doing solo work? She just can't stop singing, she's wonderful.

  • Proof that angels do indeed walk among us.

  • Beautiful Lady,

    of my Dreams,

    you take me to places,

    I've never been,

    Like a siren Temptress,

    you call, and Beckon me,

    with your sweet,

    alluring song.

    A poem by, Peter Dome. 15/4/ 09.

Love and Peace to everyone. thanks for posting. LOL.

  • How wonderful. Just, so Beautiful, So pure, Timeless, perfection. Beyond words. A precious, gift, that brings so much joy, to my heart and soul. A voice of an Angel, and, the Beauty of one. too,Thank You so much for posting. Love and peace to everyone. LOL.

  • Absolutely gorgeous...

  • Pretty! Pretty!! Pretty!!!

  • I love this song, and Méav sings it with such a perfect angelic voice with ornamentation! Im singing this for a concert but Im singing the 'Bohemian Girl' version which isn't half as good I must say

  • This is the best version with such angellic voice ever!

  • does anyone know how to pronounce her name?

  • meev nee maolchaka (I think)

  • I just asked my mother and she said it was pronounced "Meev Nee Mawolkaha

  • MAYV NEE WELL-KAH-HA

  • Has anyone seen "The Bohemian Girl", the opera it's from?

  • I love this song! And she told in her interview that she really enjoyed singing this. That's so visible, isn't it? :) She looks really passionate..

  • I totally agree! I mean this is so much more listenable than enya :)!

  • i love this song....it may be airy, but every artist has a way of using their voice, rather than enhancing it with electronics that really hide the naturalistic voice....she has a way with her voice

enya uses a lot of echos and it takes away from the actual song...still gorgeous, but the echos can just...die for all i care lol

  • I totally agree. Enya uses too much electronic processing and "layering" to achieve the type of sound she has on her recordings. She doesn't have the same kind of acoustic energy that these ladies do, so it would be difficult for her to match them in any LIVE performance.

  • This is done much better by Enya! As to Enya using "echo" in her songs, it is NOT to mask imperfection. Instead it is used to make it have a more dreamy quality. This lady here has a pretty voice, no doubt about it, but just doesn't capture the magic of this lovely song!

  • It seems most of Enya's songs use echo... that is a cover for imperfection. Meav... Lisa ... Orla... Haley do not need anything electronic to enhance their voices, Meav is incredible but I love Lisa's voice... she captures me completely...

  • Very beautiful. But not as beautiful as the version from Laurel & Hardy's Bohemian Girl song by Julie Bishop (cq Jacqueline Wells). However ... still incredibly beautiful !

    Kind regards, Michel.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

  • Is it true that this song is considered unlucky?

  • hm...i've never heard of a song being considered unlucky, where did you hear this from??? i'm rather interested in that thought though...

  • prettypessimist08

"Theater people are a superstitious lot. One of the things an actor should never do is whistle in the dressing room certain songs that have been deemed "unlucky." According to Jan and Cora Gordon, writing in The London Roundabout (1933), "You try whistling Tosti's Good-bye or I dreamt that I dwelt in marble halls, and see what happens. You'll get thrown out on the pavement."

  • They say not to whistle on stage because sailors would man the stage ropes, and they would use a series of whistles to tell each other to pull what ropes.

  • her voice is like an angel's

  • Agree!

    So gentle and beautiful.

  • LOL! That is really funny, cruel, but funny. xD

  • Absolutely!

  • Her voice is very airy. She shouldn't sigh out so much as she sings. But she is beatiful as a singer and a person.

  • I agree that her voice is airy. But I don't think it as a bad thing. Each singer has something about their singing that makes it their own.

The only singers I don't like are ones who intentionally alter their natural voices to sound like something they're not.

  • I agree that she had an airy quality to her voice for this performance, but she usually has a very full sound. I think she went for the airy sounds to give and "dream" quality to the song. Same principal as using echo or other voice enhancements. I think it's appropriate for the song...
