So, what you are saying is....The B-52's killed Lennon.... One altered step in his life from what he was planning to do and then that fateful meeting in the hallway. This kind of thing happens all the time.....sadly...
I was there, and The Police...AWESOME!! Talking Heads, Grateful Dead, The Ramones, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The B-52's, & Pat Brenatar, the best performances!! Can u post the whole show for The B-52's?? PLEASE!!!!
We drove down from San Jose, starting around midnight Thurs, and our car blew up in Azuza at dawn. Pumpin' water out of the tailpipe. It took us until dark to get to the festival, and we got to catch this show, followed by The Talking Heads. It was hot as hell, all day, and when it got down to 90 deg. at night, it felt good! I can attest that there were 100,000 if not more, and all were floating in the air. What a high! I know I missed a lot of shows on Fri., so keep posting those bands. Thanks.
I was at US Festival '82, all 3 days, and to me, New Wave day was by far the best, B52's, T-Heads, Boingo, Police all gave awesome performances - it was an experience I'll never forget. Does anyone know if there's a DVD available? If not, I think it's a damn shame, since one of the main ideas behind the festival itself was the promotion of new technologies, with state of the art sound and video recording being an obvious part of all of that. Thanks for posting this gem, giantsno1, and ROCK ON!!
I became aware of the B's through Kate's work with REM. I am from another world, orbiting Planet Clairefot the past two years. I find a lot of things I really like.
Yes!..I was there for three days in a rented motor home. Imagine The Ramones then Oingo Boingo then the B52's then Talking Heads and then The Police!!! I danced for about 6 hours straight (well, far from straight) and yes, one of the best days of my life. THe first thing Sting said "you see that full moon? It's no fucking coincidence!!" Thanks for posting this, awesome memories!!
I just dont understand whats so great about them.. Im only 17 so maby i am just to young for this or something. But i jsut cant find any thing good about them :S
When they did their first album in '79, there was nothing out there like this...they really were cutting edge and had a freedom and style and image about them that nobody else had. Today, everyone is basically the same, molded by the record executives more than by their own sense of self. That's why people say that the B's are great :)
Sometimes songs just 'grab' you,I'm sure you've experienced this, this song from the album(not this live one) did just that for me.the "Hippy hippy shake " part in particulare, the accent is just errmm, nice :)
It was all about breaking the "rules" of rock and punk - ignoring the wishes of everyone else (like the record exec's, as mentioned supra) and just doing your own thing, everyone else be damned.
Sorry you don't get anything out of this; how about something fresh and original? Like hip-hop, pre-fabricated boy-bands or "my-daddy-didn't-love-me" rock?
Yeah it's probaby because you're not a very creative person or into originality.
That's okay, there are plenty of unoriginal bands for you to choose from nowadays. Also, are you sure you're not a 12 year old because you spell like one.
it starts with Fred Schneider's unique spoken word vocals. Add kate and cindy's harmonies, ricky's totally unique guitar tunings and you have a band with a sound that has never been heard before or since.
John Lennon heard their debut album and declared it to be his favourite of all time. After hearing it in Bermuda, he was inspired enough to come out of his 5 year musical exile, and record his last album.
Personally, I don't even want to imagine life if there were no B-52's.
From Day 1. Gang of Four, the Ramones, Oingo Boingo, B52s, Talking Heads, then the Police. A day I will never forget. Pinnacle of new wave, thanks Steve!
i just remember everyone dancing. i totally remember the dust cloud. total hippies were in fron t of us and i was like oh my god, hippies love them too...it was the best
Thanks for posting this great clip. Brought back great memories when I was there back in '82. I remember when the B-52s began their set a great dust cloud formed from the huge crowd dancing.

@panther105 'The B-52's killed Lennon...' What?? A stalker killed Lennon. He insisted on a normal life. He got normal security.

when she first sings "why wont you dance with me!?" I think it's one of the best deliveries in all of rock... just listen to the crowd react.

You are correct. It's Kate. It's Fred. And the others. It's strong.
