I've been trying forever to think of how to be as politically correct in what I have to say. She sings the notes well, but she doesn't sing the SONG well. It means nothing. It just sounds good. And that's the difference. And I disagree with the multiculturalization of "Black" musical theater. It seems blacks lower their standards of allowing whites into their peices because they want the dollar. But I have yet to see a black Glinda, Elphaba, Marry Poppins, Christine from Phantom... etc... etc

We wanted everyone to be in this show. Though it is our history of as black artist, I think that it has effected all people. I think its important for people of all races to learn and participate in the production to grow and immerse them in different cultures. As long as the performers deliver the material correctly it doesn't matter race they are. I think Cailene does more than what she is called to do here, thus she is singing it.

i do agree that anybody can be in the wiz, but i strongly feel that dorothy has to be black because she is the main character & "home" has to have that soul and power. she has a great voice, but she wouldn't be cast as dorothy in "the wiz"..."the wizard of oz"--yes. she's not riffing the way it needs to be riffed. there needs a passion and a history in the voice.

I wouldn't say that she ate it up. She did a nice job with it, but it lacked the soul and power that it requires. It's just a cut wrenching thing that most ethnic singers naturally have in their voices. Shoshana Bean is a white girl who can SSAAANNGGG with the best of the best. She puts soul into her singing but it's not the same as like a Fantasia or something like that.

Our cast has a white dorothy, shes 12 years old and she is spectacular. This show has college students in it and she beat them all.
