Visited Finland in 2000 after hearing so many of their Eurovision entries. A marvellous country, the forgotten corner of Europe: a most unusual place to visit and probably one that would surprise many visitors. I have CDs of Katri Helena, Cat Cat and Reijo Tallio. I don;t speak the language but most soothing to the ear. Kiitos paljon!
1986 was time of jury voting. I thing Finland just could not win that time regardless what kind of song Finland sent to the competition. I like this song really much myself too.
I seriously thought Finland would win that year. It's one of the most beautiful ballads ever in the history of Eurovision and sung by a guy with a fantastic voice! If only it had been in English instead of Finnish I think it would've done better. But then again... my taste is always far from the rest of the world
Neither Finland nor Iceland are Scandinavian countries. They are Nordic countries. Scandinavia consists of 3 countries only: Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
@sparkler1000 ~The presenter's comment "three Scandinavian songs so close to the end" was referring to Sweden, Denmark and Finland; song numbers 17, 18 and 19 in a line-up of 20 songs. It's just a co-incidence those countries appeared together like that, the running order was determined by a draw. Norway was song 4 in the line-up, and newcomers Iceland were song 6 in the line-up.
Very nice song and singer why Finland you send those Hardrockers when you have so nice singers and songs ? Hardrock and Eurovision dosent fit ok once but not anymoore :D
maybe it's because we tried sending pop-songs to ESC for 50 years and never succeeded. Then when we try with hard rock.. well, we win the competition with the biggest amount of points in ESC-history.
So guess which music style we now prefer?
(Okay, we've had two slimmer years after the win. But in public votes we've beaten Sweden 3 years in a row now with harder rock.)
boooring... The words "the end" were artificially added to the song. Originally it was "päivä kahden ihmisen". And Kari held the microphone with two hands because his hands were shaking.
Very beautiful ballad from Finland, and a really heartfelt performance as well. With a few exceptions, Finland really shined with their entries during the 80s.
Those were actually part of that 'exception' group for me :) - but from "Fantasiaa" onwards (excluding Boulevard), you really could do no wrong during that decade!
Well, "Nuku pommiin" (though very important message) isn't a very good song, but "Reggae O.K." still kicks ass:D! I also must admit I kinda like "Huilumies". The one I'm not very keen on, is "Sata salamaa". Don't know why...
Well done Euronoples. This is the Keith Chegwan guy i was referring to.Havent seen it for 21 years, but still remember it from my student days.Still like it.

really good song, with english lyrics it could have been a winner, not that there's anything wrong with singing in Finnish I hasten to add :)

Talk about Terry Wogan's quote of Finland being the "only Scandinavian country not to win the ESC". That would be only Iceland now.

I do agree. Especially in the beginning of the 80's our entries were hugely misunderstood.
